I loved Assist Trophies. They serve as a great nod to fans whose favorite characters or franchises did not rate representation as a full-fledged playable character. Why cut them?

I do not believe in axing Assist Trophies, but they are not the best marketing materials for the game.

Personally I would reveal ATs after Smash 4's release, so that way it doesn't kill hype for the game early for anyone.

Definitely better to save them for after the character roster has been revealed, agreed. You don't exhibit the consolation prize before the reward for first place.

Not me.

I will be pretty pleased if Mike makes it as Assist Trophy at least, because SOME attention will be brought back to StarTropics (not to mention I'll be able to read some of Sakurai's thoughts on the franchise). And finally, because it would be Mike's ticket out of Pixel Art and into 3D world for the very first time.

If a character doesn't get in, it'll be regardless of Assist Trophy status or not. But I would at least love to see updated retro characters than having them as stickers only, which are the same and tired old images I can find on GOOGLE.

Sure, it's quite disappointing when a character you want is shown to be an AT, but as Sakurai said when Waluigi was revealed: "He appears nonetheless!"

She had a game for the GBC around the end of its lifepsan called Shantae. People call it underrated.

She's a genie that can dance to transform into various animals and mythical monsters and whatnot. Most games in Shante's series have almost exclusively on Nintendo handhelds. I think that the most recent game might be the first that will also be on Sony and Microsoft's systems as well as Nintendo's. Haven't played any of the games myself though, so I couldn't tell you how good they are. But I assume they must be at least decent with the following they have.

I haven't been able to comment much lately because of lack of computer access, but I have a few comments on KOS-MOS.

If she is first party, then I have no objection to her inclusion, though I do not think she is as likely as everybody thinks (yes I did read most of the posts. I'm not completely convinced.) However, if she is owned by Namco, then she has as much chance as Lloyd Irving. Don't forget Sakurai only picking "legendary" 3rd party characters. Unfortunately, the only "legendary' 3rd party form Namco is Pac-Man by leaps and bounds.

She will face problems regardless, as a Xenosaga character would be out of left-field as opposed to a Xenoblade one. Unless of course they include one from both, which is highly unlikely imo. Really it depends on what Sakurai is looking for. If he wants to look at newer characters that have potential, then he will likely pick Shulk, but if he is looking to older sources, that it's possible that he will pick KOS-MOS.

Overall, she isn't ultra likely like some have said, but she isn't dead in the water.

I'm pretty sure Namco still owns the rights to Xenosaga, they are the publisher. Thus still making her third party. I think Monolith and Namco got into some stuff, and by the end of it Namco technically owns those characters.

Then again, I'm not sure those guys were serious.

This assuming characters get in based on what company they are from. Which they don't. Sonic didn't get in because he was Sega's mascot and neither did Snake. This is why I always facepalm when people replace Snake with Simon Belmont instead of Bomberman

Besides, the next best Non-Pac-Man Namco choice that isn't from a fighting game is Yoshimitsu Klonoa. I always felt like he fit in with stuff like Kirby.
