the only fire emblem guys I want is marth and ike, I will not be happy with that

I only supported Chrom in the first place because I wanted a new Lord from the latest game (Awakening) and because I liked Chrom's design. But I was a little disheartened to read many posts stating that Chrom is not unique or very bland, that he is too similar to Marth and/or Ike. But I'm glad pizzadudemanguy elaborated on the small stuff that make up the whole picture... Chrom seems like he has his own fighting style. I would like to see that in Smash. Very interesting read!

Its as I've said before, characters that have a lot of source material from their games are able to stand out from others and have a unique moveset.

the only downside he faces is not being relevant, which is never a very good argument against a character.

Yes, and thats how we get wolf, but in this case, i think dixie has more oportunitys over krystal.
I expect k rool but not in this game, and i think other characters have more potential for the metagame and deserve more priority, anyways, i really wouldnt mind, a present for the fans is always nice.

Very unhappy. Picking Anna over Ike or Roy? Never gonna happen.

On the subject of Chrom, I think he has a lot more potential than people give him credit for. He might have blue hair and may have been designed after Ike/Marth, but Chrom is his own character.

I'm fine with Roy OR Chrom, but I have a feeling Chrom is going to get in.

I think it's an over abundance of Awakening characters. I'd also hate to see Ike cut, especially if were going to get 3 Fire Emblem reps.

And? I wouldn't expect any other lord/ character besides Chrom or Roy, both being sword wielding male protagonists. The only difference is their hair and teh pH!R3, which really shouldn't mean much.

Also, Anna is not an Awakening exclusive character. She has appeared countless times, hence why BluePikmin chooses to include her.

It still just doesn't sound that interesting to me. I wouldn't opposed to Chrom's inclusion, I just feel that characters like Robin or any other magic user would be more interesting, but you do have a point about Roy.

And I'm aware that Anna is recurring and not Awakening exclusive. But the main reason people include her is still because of her role in Awakening. Which is why I count her as an Awakening rep.

So after we saw Marth with his new appearance, I did some research to find what Ike's getup was in Radiant Dawn. I wanted to compare it Chrom.

Gotta say...these designs do look pretty similar...

Differences I spot:

Different cape obviously
Different pants
Different Armor
Different sword (again obvious)

Similarities:

same hair color
one arm bare, one covered
...that's kinda it

Well as i'm sure you noticed, I added some of my observations onto it. I think it's similar, but the similarities are outdone by the differences here.

But...
Chrom and Ike are two completely different people...
Ike doesn't need Radiant Dawn really, especially if it gets in the way of Chrom, a very likely inclusion.

If it came down to it, and they decided that Chrom and Lucina WOULD NOT be playable characters, I would not be opposed to color-swap costumes that reference them in Marth's and Ike's outfits, like Luigi's Waluigi outfit or Peach's Daisy outfit.

...But NOT the character themself as a costume. Because they are their own character.

That's what I was thinking. We already know that Lucina can act pretty much the same as Marth, and that Ike and Chrom have more than enough similarities. And now that we have the Male Wii Fit Trainer, we could very well be getting more alternate costumes, even if they aren't exactly the same character.

There's a small difference between this and Wii Fit Trainer though:

Wii Fit Trainer is still Wii Fit Trainer regardless of gender, but Ike is not Chrom, and Chrom is not Ike...although Lucina is 'Marth' so Marth could be 'Marth' rather than Lucina...

My head hurts.

Masked Marth or 'Marth' works for Marth since they look so damn similar and thus can still be referred to in game by the announcer as Marth. God damn this is getting confusing. Imagine if you selected Ike and you were actually playing Chrom though. That'd feel a bit odd.

If you see what I mean? 'Marth' works for Marth, but Lucina doesn't work for Marth and Chrom doesn't work for Ike in the same way male and female Wii Fit Trainers do or WarioWare Wario and Wario World Wario do.

Maybe it's just me.

Ike and Chrom have more than enough similarities.

Disagreed. Look at the stance again. There's no way Chrom and Ike could attack in the same fashion; they have their blades at completely different angles. Besides that, Ike's sword is far larger; Chrom can't slam opponents under the heavy weight of his sword like Ike can.

Wii Fit Trainer is a different scenario altogether. Both characters are "Wii Fit Trainer." Chrom is not Ike. That's why Priam exists.

Ike and Chrom would be different characters in Smash, Ike is more of the heavy swordsman while Chrom would be similar to Roy by being the balanced swordsman the inbetween of Marth and Ike.

My concern with three Fire Emblem reps in the next Smash is this:

Out of possible newcomers, a few are sword characters. We have Takamaru, Shulk, Issacc, and to a much lesser extent Saki. These are sword characters that also bring a new series representation along with much more unique swordplay (potentially).

Fire Emblem characters, so far, have all been lords. They are from the same universe. The frontrunners are Roy and Chrom. Roy started off as a clone. Chrom is described as a perfect mix between Marth and Ike.

I think it would add more flavor to a universe about crazy specials and different worlds colliding, to pick one or two of the sword characters from not-yet-represented franchises.

If Little Mac was REALLY added in SSB4, I'd go out of my way to main him. I've never done that before; I just "get good" with a certain character.

But Mac has been my most wanted character for SSB since Melee was announced.

Mac is one, Mega Man is another. K. Rool and Paper Mario would be lots of fun too.
