I believe Robin is more likely now. Because one of the first arguments to jump up was "Will they choose the male or female version?" which wasn't much of a thing against him/her anyway.

But I also see Robin more likely than a new lord because of what Robin brings to the table.
Ever since Sakurai stated he wanted to bring unique movesets to SSB4, and that he'd have less focus on the ammount of characters, I already suspected he wouldn't be adding characters just to fill the roster up (I even think he said these very same words).

So since Marth has the speedy/elegant swordsmanship, and Ike has the brutal/heavy swordsmanship... Any character added from F.E. that uses a sword will be redundant. That's where ROBIN comes in.
Robin would probably have a style of its own, be it magic/swordsmanship, be it controlling F.E. unit sprites, or a shifty weapon style, anyway they go around it will make Robin considerably different from the other F.E. characters. Not to mention that the Tactician/protagonist class would be represented in the vein that Pokemon Trainer represented the avatar who the playar controls throughout the whole adventure in Pokemon.

I think Toon Link and any other character with unchanged movesets will eventually get a moveset change, I think they are simply copy and pasting first, then renewing the moveset. Perhaps every character from Brawl is copy and pasted into Smash 4, they are just simply refining it.

Yah they are still refining movesets and what we see now isn't necessarily set it stone yet for the final product. Seeing as how Toon Link's spin attack looks now similar to the Hurricane Spin from the Wind Waker, he would probably (hopefully) be able to move around with it this time around by the time the games come out........ :/

Ganondorf really should be in top priority of being changed, I don't see why they'd change Bowser but not Ganondorf. I don't think we'll see Ganon-sword though, just a gist.

I would love if we had some more Balloon Fighter discussion.

I'd love to see Balloon Fighter.
Balloon Fight is easily one of the most fun NES games to play with a friend (on 2P mode of course).
It kinda ticked me off seeing a character I have absolutely no love for (Villager) steal BF's trademark gimmick no less. *Sakuraaaaaiiii!!!!*

Still, despite that, I think BF could have a whole balloon-based gimmick be his style. His weight/floatyness could change depending on how many balloons he has inflated.
Not to mention if he were to "let go" of a balloon forward, these tend to screw up Ness/Lucas recovery so they could be useful somewhat. XD


As for another "flyer" character, I´d really love to see Goose or Lark from PW 64. With a moveset inspired on Ken the Eagle due to the bird wings.

Ganon I think, is one of the first characters that should be changed. He doesn't exactly need his sword, but throwing in some dark magic can work. Given how much Bowser has changed, I'd be surprised if Ganon stayed the same. Though I think he'll definitely keep his unique moves from Brawl, and some of his air attacks too. Point is we need to see the Ganondorf in HD.

I agree with duck hunt dog, I think we'll get no actual newcomers the rest of this year, just vets. Which is really disappointing to me, but whatever at least some good news came from today's pic.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Porky is more important to MOTHER, that's true, but the Masked Man, I believe, is more popular, more memorable, and easier to make work. Granted, Porky comes off as that "love to hate" character.

Balloon Fighters chances are essentially dead with the reveal of the Villager. In the reveal trailer, the Villager is shown using the Balloon Fighters helmet, otherwise known as the trademark part of Balloon Fighter in general. It is highly unlikely that Balloon Fighter will be in, no matter how awesome he would be.

Thing is, the roster is already decided. Regardless of whether or not Peach has her Toad special, he is already in the game if he was planned. It isn't like they're going to remove him from there and add him because he isn't a meat shield. He's already in, or he isn't in at all.

When Sakurai mentions changes from the final product, he is most likely addressing aesthetic changes, such as the smirk of Sonic's face, or smaller details. He doesn't mean that he is going to change a characters attacks in order to put a character in (see Toad). The only character we've seen put in like that is Sonic, and Toad has nowhere near the same amount of popularity.

To be completely honest though, I would only embrace Ninten as the 3rd Mother rep. Any other character wouldn't even budge my hype level.
In fact, I'd rather see another F-Zero character before Mother (Goroh!). Much more games, much more history.
But that's just a scenario where I'd have choose between already represented franchises. Ideally, I'll always side with franchises never seen before in the character select screen.

And I've said it once and I'll say it again, while Ninten isn't necessary, it's the only reason MOTHER would warrant 3 characters in the first place.

Think of it this way. It's the same situation as Toad. Obviously Sakurai plans the roster before development. Why on earth would he make this part of Villager's move set? It's entirely unnecessary, represents another character, and takes away said character's uniqueness/purpose. While you may think it's not enough to make Balloon Fighter not unique, it's enough to make him unneeded.

And don't come up with an excuse that you know is invalid or contradicts an already previously proven point. You always do that with anyone on your roster and I can just smell it coming. No offense.

My guess would be that he at least tried to come up with a concept and didn't have quite enough source material to make an interesting moveset. Just a guess, though.

Air Pump, Bumpers, and electricity? I'd say Sakurai had plenty of source material to work with

I would say touche, but they did had the duo mechanic in their favor. That was enough to make them really unique...and they were really easy to make unique moves for, anyways. Balloon Fighter is a little more difficult, imo.

Their moveset is based off of Ice stuff, and using hammers. And Teamwork too. While that isn't a lot, it's enough to make a moveset.

What does Balloon Fighter have? Balloons. A pump. Other than that, he really doesn't have anything at his disposal, hence why it's more difficult to make a moveset for him. Add the fact that Villager has his iconic helmet, i'd say there's no way he's in.

As SaturnGamer pointed out, if Balloon Fighter were in, why would Sakurai give Villager the most iconic part of the character?

The Ice Climbers never had any ice related moves in their own games actually. From what I remember they could only swing their hammers as their means of attack. As well as jump in order to break the ice above them. The team work mechanic and the ice attacks were made up specifically for Smash Bros.

I've wanted Balloon Fighter in since Melee, but with the Villager literally getting the most iconic part of his character as a move, I think it hurts his chances unless Sakurai is fine with them share that move, which wouldn't surprise me, but I still think his chances have been hurt.
