A few buffs could change everything. And look how Sheik was nerfed in Brawl. INSTANTLY SHE LOSES POPULARITY. Coincidence? I think not.

Not everyone who plays is a competitive player. Many casualfags old an new are likely to stick to Sheik or be drawn to her because they like the character, they like how she feels or because they're already acquainted with her move set. Also, Sheik is/was one of the most common characters in the Japanese Brawl competitive circle.

It's kind of a shame, although the last game I played of theirs was Force Unleashed 2, and although I still liked alot of parts of the game, (I love the combat in thos games) it was still lacking in so many areas, and I think their products had generally done that lately. I think they had this coming before Disney grabbed them.
