How so?

By being playable in New Super Mario Bros games and stuff. And not just popping up as Random Mario Drone #4 in Mario sport games for example.

I actually want a Paper Mario 5 game. But I hope it is more like the first two games. As a Mario fanboy, I would like a Paper Mario game where the partners are Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Wario, Bowser, and Donkey Kong instead of generic enemies.

I don't like the idea of toad helping. He never has, I don't think he should.
I would be ok with Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi though. Although that's be cooler for one of the RPG series.

Well Bowser Jr has been a major villain in the last 6 Mario games (all 4 NSMBs and both Galaxies) and been a major character inclusion in all the sports/kart games lately.

What exactly was bad about Sticker Star, I keep hearing it's bad, but still haven't heard the reasons. Not that I plan on picking it up, but I'm just curious. My personal favorite in the Mario RPG series is Thousand Year Door, with Super Paper Mario in 2nd place.

The most common element I see criticized is the story. Basically, instead of creating a new and interesting environment with a big cast of interesting supporting characters, they just decided to reuse stock Mario locations and have a bunch of generic Toads as the games entire supporting cast. Yahtzee explains it very well here.

As I said he was a filler in those games. And EVERYTHING is playable in the Mario sports games.

Generic Toads. THE Toad. Who cares. They are all Toads. They are the Anonymous of the Mushroom Kingdom. You never know which Toad is THE Toad.

I dunno if I'd say distinct. At least, not to the average gamer. Yoshi is different because he had a whole series to himself and he protected baby Mario and... you know, it's pretty clear there's a main Yoshi. With Toad, they seem quite interchangeable. At least that's how I always saw it.

In Japan(as I understand it), THE Toad is called Kinopio while the species are called Kinos.

Whenever Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Wario are playable. You know who they are. The series that is going to matter here, are the NSMB and the Galaxy games. Only Mario, Luigi, Toads, and Miis are playable in them. And then the simple fact that there's two of them show that they're generic and a filler lol

THE Toad's Japanese name is Kinopio. The Toad you play as in Super Mario Bros. 2? That's him. The Toad you play as in Wario's Woods? That's him. The Toad who went all the way to the end of Smithy's factory in Super Mario RPG? That's him. The captain of the Toad Brigade in Super Mario Galaxy games? That's him.

Well... Best excuse to defend him now is that he's an absolute classic, is a light weight, has some cool moveset potential, and is the only playable main Mario character left without a Smash incaration. Well, a Smash incaration that is not Peach's meat shield...

Waluigi was actually pretty close to playable, where Paper Mario was just a trophy. Charizard was in the same position as Waluigi is now. Paper Mario is still a trophy. Hardly comparable in likeliness.

Toad is still far more likely than Paper Mario. Dr. Mario is more likely too. The least likely characters are actually Paper Mario and Bowser Jr. The others were near playable, or were actually considered, or were playable.(should be obvious which) Jr. and Paper Mario were never once considered. They aren't that likely at all.

And also considering that Skyward Sword will pretty much impact the entire roster besides Ganondorf and Toon Link (so basically Link, Zelda, and whoever the new character is).

Um, no, he didn't have his own series. "The" Yoshi is the star baby(or whatever) from the end of YI:DS. The Yoshi's Island series focuses on a group of generic Yoshis.

And Kinopio isn't generic, as established before.

Considered is not the same thing as planned. I didn't say he was planned, just far more likely than two regular Trophies.

He already has programmed movement and an attack. Sakurai did joke about him "not being playable", so that's another thing to take into account. He clearly knows Waluigi is quite popular by that alone.

He's just as likely as Charizard was. And looks who's playable now. I'm not saying he will be playable, just far more likely than Jr. or Paper. However, Dr. Mario and Toad are most likely over Waluigi, but that's it.

Charizard = most popular Pokemon in the world.

Waluigi = not even re-occuring in Mario spin off games, and has no role outside of those.

There's what I call, a rough difference.
