The rosters that cause the most conflict are Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Zelda

There are hardly any problems when discussing the likes of Metroid, Earthbound, Mario, Kirby, etc.
Mario? There's tons of conflict over who should get in, mostly between Bowser Jr., Toad, and Waluigi fans.

For EB and Kirby, the conflict comes mostly from wether or not they deserve another rep.

I am not saying they don't have conflict, I was just saying it is no where near the first three I named. People literally clash when those rosters are discussed.

Surprised third party discussions aren't attached with the first line. Just wait until I restart the Dragon Quest bandwagon.

Deserve is such a funny word.

It's one thing to add a character already circulating and relatively popular (ie., Lucario and Pichu), it's quite another to spoon feed people a Pokémon no one knows anything about or is demanding. Sakurai's not that dumb, nor Game Freak that overbearing.
Though I still disagree with advertisement fodder in general, there is always the possibility of inclusion if the character is apparently likeable or interesting enough. Kind of like Roy in Melee

Well, that is what the arguments are about. For Kirby, most people agree that rep #4 should be Bandana Waddle Dee, but most of the conflict comes from wether or not Kirby needs/deserves/should get that 4th rep. For Mother, I think there's some conflict between Porky/Ninten/Kumatora, but most of the conflict comes from people who think that Mother has gotten enough representatives.

What did you expect now..? :smirk:

Mario debates also can heated. It's Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem and Pokemon which causes the most friction.

But think we're getting somewhere with the FE debates now however...

1. Better chances? Yes. Those not being included? Not guaranteed.
I didn't say it was guaranteed all those characters you listed wouldn't be excluded. I just said the other three were much more likely.

2. At least 1/4 or 1/3 of the newcomers could be new, not yet repped, franchises. This wouldn't exactly count retros or 3rd parties though. Most would be from franchises already there, not all would though. If it was 15 newcomers, about 6-7 could be newer franchises. That is not actually unreasonable when that list might include retros and 3rd parties.
If you're arbitrarily going to exclude the categories that make up over half the amount of new series added in Melee and Brawl, then the new series percentage would be even less (1/3 and 2/6 -- 2/14 and 2/18 respectively) and it would be even more unrealistic to expect more than this ratio for SSB4. Why would the ratio change now? It's not like the unrepresented series are now in general more "deserving" than the remaining character from existing series.

3. I am just saying we are not sure what Sakurai is saying. It is true in the past he has changed his mind on stuff. So in the end we don't know what is going to happen. Some people are basing ideas off of the idea that the roster will not be a big upgrade to Brawl in terms of newcomers, which is what he said. But we can't really go off what is said, we have to go off what is actually done. In other words, nothing can really be said until after E3 when the game is shown off.
But basing your entire viewpoint and every argument you make on a small chance like this is misguided.

New series are just those not yet represented.
Yeah, including unrepresented retro series and unrepresented 3rd-parties.

It's one thing to add a character already circulating and relatively popular (ie., Lucario and Pichu), it's quite another to spoon feed people a Pokémon no one knows anything about or is demanding. Sakurai's not that dumb, nor Game Freak that overbearing.
Except there is a precedent of Sakurai including a character that wasn't even out when the Smash game he was included in came out because Sakurai found merit in him, which could also happen with the 6th gen and SSB4. I'm not saying it's a guarantee, but if Sakurai chose a feasible Pokemon that Game Freak/Pokemon Company was going to promote to the extent of Lucario and/or Zoroark, it would at least have a decent amount of popularity pre-announcement/leak of its inclusion. Sakurai has done something like this before, maybe he is that dumb. ;)

But we don't know what the end product will be like, so saying it is realistic or unrealistic can not yet be said.

And it is not like I am saying 10+ newcomer franchises not counting 3rd parties and retros. 5 is not really that much.
Saying it's unrealistic and saying it's impossible are two different things. If I said the roster was going to have 70 characters that'd be unrealistic, right? Even before the trailer came out, that'd be an unrealistic thing to say.

And 8 series is likely going to be over half the amount of newcomers, so relegating the existing series to less than half of the newcomers is without precedent and unrealistic.

The rosters that cause the most conflict are Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Zelda

There are hardly any problems when discussing the likes of Metroid, Earthbound, Mario, Kirby, etc.
Obviously you missed the great Mario character arguments of the old days. They were as heated as Pokemon/FE discussions are now.

Old Mario debates where so good though.. Damn people would REALLY go deep into those debates. Was just a happy camping Toad supporter though.

There is a difference between FE and PKMN, but I cannot elaborate on it now since I have to jet to work. Will come back though.

Fire Emblem is a lot more limited than Pokemon in choices though. There's just.. A LOT of friction about who should be character #4...

Ok, I have to go soon too, but all I was saying is (not that it's the obviously most likely situation) just that it could be a possibility. I recognize there are differences between pretty much every series in Smash and how their inclusions work.

Which is also why we can't use the same arguments for every series. Thanks N3ON! :)

Mewtwo for Pokemon indeed dammit.

Here's how Sakurai could outdo the SSBB reveal:
-Have my "stealth intro", where it at first appears to be a new Mario Golf or Mario Tennis game or something, but then Link, Kirby and Pikachu show up.
-Confirm that Sonic and Snake are returning, since if they disappeared people would probably have a conniption about it. Do the same with the Original 12.
-Confirm at least 3 or 4 new Nintendo reps, at least one third-party rep (preferably a recognizable-to-all timeless character like Megaman or Pac-Man) and perhaps one returning character, like Mewtwo or Roy.
-Show somebody using a Pokeball item, with a Generation 6 Pokemon coming out of it. Preferably Fennekin, because Fennekin is awesome.
-Show some crazy new feature, like a team-based attack or alternate costumes (Dr. Mario costume for Mario, for example)
-Through the use of holograms, have Sakurai arrive onto E3 stage on a warp star.

im pretty disapointed in the Luigi's Mansions muliplayer characters. i would've rather the other players be Toads. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgBmp44ld_o
Alright, no Waluigi, I can deal with.
But all of the characters (even Player 1) being Luigi recolors? Not cool. I mean, we have Kinopio, Bucken-Berry, and Ala-Gold in the game as well as E. Gadd. Why not use them for multiplayer modes instead of 4 recolors of Luigi?

EDIT: Although, that player spawning would make for a cool intro for Luigi instead of coming out of a Warp Pipe.

i know right. I kinda figured it would be like Luigi, E. Gadd, Toad, and someone else (probably Mario but Waluigi would be cooler) this route just seems kinda lazy.

Yeah, I was really hoping for some character diversity for the multiplayer instead of just Luigi recolors

From as long as I've been here, I've seen the most heat in Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem discussions.
Mario mainly because I'm for Paper Mario. And most people are for Toad or Waluigi.
Zelda because for some damn reason people want Impa in the game, and some people want tingle and some want ghirahim and nobody's an obvious addition and so on and so forth.
Fire Emblem because nothing seems certain there, who should be in or how many people.
And pokemon because there are SOOOO many choices and one got removed and there's a new gen and blah blah blah.
It's all pretty much just a recipe for disaster.
I see:
Chrom and Roy for FE.
Mewtwo and some 6th gen whatever for PKMN.
Paper Mario for Mario, probably exactly what you thought I'd say.
And toon zelda/tetra for Zelda.
Now as for Kirby getting another rep...it's certainly plausible. It's just I don't know about such a generic character as bandana dee. Does it really have a fan base?

While it may not mean anything, Sakurai tweeted to Masuda that he can't wait to see his upcoming games at E3 (and Masuda said the same thing to Sakurai).
....Does that mean Sakurai doesn't know anything about X and Y that we don't?

I see 5 new series (Xenoblade, Punchout, Sin & Punishment, Golden Sun, and Wii)

That is reasonable and realistic
I believe this is reasonable and realistic:

Balloon Fighter (Balloon Fight)
Little Mac (Punch-Out!!)
Mii (Wii Sports)
Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles)
Takamaru (The Mysterious Murasame Castle)
Villager (Animal Crossing)

I'm still for Geno
Don't want Toad, Waluigi or paper Mario. I would be ok with toad, lesser ok with Luigi, and would dislike Paper Mario

What 8-peacock posted also references what I just said about X and Y.

Here it is in case you all missed it; which seems everyone did. -_-

So, the last nail in the coffin on a Gen 6 rep, eh? Concrete evidence Sakurai is not in contact with Masuda. Unless the whole thing is a ruse. But, Sakurai is the man behind random tripping. He's not too clever.

I really don't think them being excited about each others games means anything like that

THis seems like an "Until now" situation here
