I don't speak for everyone, but I played Return to Dreamland and loved using Bandanna Dee. And, technically speaking, we don't see Dedede throwing Bandanna Dee. Do you remember D3 throwing one wearing a bandanna? And, also, this has been said before, but Yoshi. He's just Mario's car. To quote you "it just doesn't fit to see him playable".

Edit: Ninja'ed
Yoshi is way more unique than Toad IMO. Yoshi has his own games, and is honestly more respected as an individual where as Toad is just used and is a helper who doesn't fight. this is all my opinion

Yoshi does not have his own games.
The only games that the "main" Yoshi appears in is Yoshi's Island DS, shown at the very end as the last Star Child.
All the other games are all generic Yoshi.

And like someone mentioned before, characters like Bowser Jr and Paper Mario have at least been consistent in their roles. Toad has not.

The only time, in a main series games, we have actually been able to play as a Toad recently was both the Wii and Wii U New Super Mario Bros games. The rest of the time he is either just there to help you or playing a minor role in Mario Kart or something.

I always thought Toad would be awesome ever since Melee's Adventure Mode.

I always considered the Yoshi from Smash the major one from Super Mario World 2(a non-generic one and Baby Mario's caretaker). And arguably the same Green Yoshi from Yoshi's Story, but those are hard to say if they're important ones or not.

And they did? Huh. Same with Pokemon Trainer. The whole Red thing is not entirely accurate as Sakurai talks about only the class. It's just Red's design. From what I can gather, he's just a combination of Red/Ash/Manga!Red overall. The fact he has voice acting and the fact that his attitude is very similar to Ash's praise towards his Pokemon makes me think that.

Or to clarify, he's based upon the overall Red/Ash character, but literally isn't him(as the trophy practically confirms that Sakurai meant the Pokemon Trainer class). Also, a lot of PT's base costumes(not the Pokemon themselves, but HIM) covers some other Trainers.

Getting back to generic races, Pichu probably was one too. Lucario is slightly harder to say, but I'm pretty sure any Lucario can read auras, so it wasn't the one from the movie anyway.

@Arcadenik: Wrong. Yoshi in Smash is just a generic one.
Both Melee and Brawl has its trophy talk about the species itself; not of "Mario's pal".
This is further supported by the SSE, where when Mario/Pit and Link/Yoshi fight, they do not seem to recognize each other to where Yoshi would try to calm Link down in that Mario's not a bad guy and he would never destroy Zelda's trophy, or where he would try to calm Mario down in that it wasn't Peach's trophy he and Link destroyed.
What? I didn't post anything on this thread today? What am I wrong about this time? :awesome:

New topic - if Pokemon Trainer Gold gets in SSB4, which set of starters might get in?

I say Chikorita, Quilava, and Feraligatr

Thus all three types are different evolutions compared to the ones in Brawl

Unless Toad manages to get his own game. I really can't justify his placement if he isn't popular enough to warrant his own game.

Even you said it yourself: Even the generic Yoshi's have a game.

Wario's Woods. Stars Wario and the main Toad.

He's ALSO quite clearly classified as a different character from the Toad race, especially in the Galaxy series where they separate him as the Captain of the Toad Brigade. And you know, is the specific Toad in Super Mario Bros. 2 and all of the Sports and Kart games.

The one in Smash is most likely the main Toad.

I swear, if Feraligatr makes it and King K.Rool doesn't... Still, I think he's the most awesome out of the Johto starters. And I'd vote him, Chikorita and Quilava.

But I'd much rather have Fire, Grass and Water Pokemon Trainer. All with Kanto starters which would evolve in battle.

Yes, I want Blastoise badly. :009:

I wouldn't mind Chikorita, Quilava, and Feraligatr, because I love Chikorita in general. But I guess I'd also love to see: :158::153::157: Just because Totodile and Bayleef could reflect the ones that Ash has in the anime. Dancing Totodile taunt anyone?

Probably chickorita, quilava, and fraligator (I know that's not spelled right)
But then again I doubt red is going anywhere

The Trainer in question would be Gold though. And unlike Red, he doesn't look like Ash.

Damn makes me remember that time where some girl I knew was 100% sure Ness in N64 was Ash. Was about some 12 years ago or something though.

Ash used PK Fire! It's super effective!

In SSB I always thought that the Fire Flower shot out flaming ducks. I mean the shape if the flames are kinda look like ducks...well maybe...

In SSB64, the Fire Flower did ridiculous damage. They nerfed it sooo badly in Melee.

Oh I also remember first time I played Smash 64 with my cousin (she loved to use Kirby) she threw a Pokéball with GUESS WHO? Blastoise! And I tried to fight him as Pikachu. :smirk: Got my *** whooped!

This. The Fire Flower item should be buffed in SSB4... AND the Ice Flower item should be an item, too! It would work like Ice Climbers' Down+B just like how the Fire Flower item works like Bowser's Neutral B move. :)

Oh! Kinda like how Charizard got in Brawl and Ridley didn't? :troll:

Well that shut me up. And the fact that Dr. Mario too had a puzzle game and was made his own character in Melee helps Toad's case as well.

My version of Pokemon Trainer already has 9 Pokemon. :awesome: On top of that, I'd even toss Pichu and Raichu into Pikachu's moveset. And yes, I want Mewtwo, Jigglypuff and Lucario back as well.

Probably the biggest pipe dream ever though.

Oh, and I'd toss in Snorlax for a Luigified Jigglypuff clone as well if I could.

Indeed.

But seriously, I used to think that the generic species thing had an affect on Toad. But unlike with Yoshi, there is an actual different named character that you play as whenever you play a Toad.(this also applies to Toadette). There's Kinopo and Kinoppio for the two different Toads. I can't remember the spelling, but one is the guy from SMB2USA, and the others were never playable.

The only other named Yoshis are Boshi and whatever name you choose for the one in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door(I forgot what the default name was, though. Kind of like in Pokemon Black, there's Hilda for White)

Every item and character felt so much stronger in Super Smash Bros 64, to me at least. The fire Flower, the Hammer and the Ray gun. I don't know if they actually were stronger compared to the newer games or not. But they certainly sounded like that. Especially the ray gun. It actually felt like I was actually using a gun in the game due to the loud bang noise it made. Good times. :D I always disliked how much softer it sounded in the later games... They had to for obvious reasons of course...

Ah well's. :p

Couldn't the Ray Gun also show the opponent's skeleton when getting zapped in SSB? I loved that effect, especially Pikachu's electric attacks.
