i've heard it being said time and time again 'rivalary can only make you better' but better in what way? as a smasher? yeah sure, i can imagine it would help a bit, depending you who you make your rival, someone around your skill level, depending on waht type of person you are
but as a person?
then no, rivalary doesn't always mean its going to make you a better person, it can make you pretty shoddy in some cases
for example me, i've stopped forcing myself to have a rivalary with a guy who-despite being annoying as hell when he wants to be-i consider to be one of my best friends. now its all very well having a good rivalary, one where you wish eachother the best of luck and see who does best, and if you end up playing against each-other, everyone else can expect to watch a brilliant brawl.
but for me, rivalary becomes a constant fierce competition and which you begin to not want the other guy to do well at all. which i did start thinking a month or two ago
because of this thougth process-which i didn't want in the slightest-i contemplated quitting brawl (by that i mean 'not playing competitively anymore) jsut to stop myself thinknig like this.
in the end i managed to force myself into setting a target for my skill level rather than competing vs a certain person.
and for me, i think this is the best way to go about it for some people, not for skill, but for personal state of mind. and some people need to use this otherwise they will be seen and cruel unsporting people like i felt i was
and so, i need to go and knock mr. anaky off his 'best ike in uk' throne, i deserve it after all!
(at least i can say i'm the best ike MAIN in the uk XP)
