I just caught this. who is saying he wont be playable because of Petey? you disected what you wanted and put your own off spin to it. he wont be playable if he ends up in that game mode section that's for sure. with that update it's obvious Sakurai wants to let people know or people with a brain. that Bosses are special and seperate from playble characters. so i dunno where you got Petey out of that. you wont see Bowser in that section or ganonodorf im sure. If and im hoping soon we get a update on Ridley being a boss character it's over and you can come with some bs excuse. but it will only further prove my point. all im saying is you guys have your fingers crossed for Meta Ridley as a boss or smething that way he can be playable.
Yes because the only way he can be playable is if Meta Ridley is a boss *Rolls eyes because sadly i don't think there is an emote for one*.

But seriously WHY don't you want Ridley in because the only reason you have given (On this page at least) is that we want Meta to be a boss.

Edit: done this before your edit : p soz.

But yhea if Ridley is in that boss section then he isn't playable your right on that... but we all know he isn't going to be in the bos section ; )

well yeah. im not arguing that. that's what i been trying to say. I want Ridley in the game as a playable character. iv'e always had him at the top of my list until the boss confirmation thing. his size was never an issue or even the boss music. his likely hood of being a boss is very high because welll that's what he is. lol. If he isnt a boss then that's great because then he will be playble imo.

I don't know why people are ruling out the possibilities of having playable characters such as Ridley and Bowser with a boss fight in the story mode with different game mechanics. Think about how in Melee they created an entirely new model for Gigabowser and if they are really planning to go all out with a single player experience as well this time around they could go one better and create some proper boss fights. it's probably less work to animate in a few unique boss moves as his entire attack arsenal than it is to clone an entire moveset with a different model. Plus if they bothered with including Ridley as playable why would then they have to make Meta-Ridley the boss? Honestly what is wrong with having a playable character with different boss fight mechanics in the story?

But the thing is that he isnt just a boss he is an integral plot device to the entire series... Who stole the infant Metroid? Who lead Samus to Tallon 4? Who killed Samus's mother in front of her eyes as she was a child? who caused Samus to go off with the Chozo and become who she is today? Who da man!?

But the thing is that most Villains are bosses but that doesn't change the fact that they could be playable as well.

Britain, glaring at you **** yanks.
Eh.... i'm not scared by the likes of you guys. And none of you have put up a presuasive argument, all you do is reuse the old ones...
*points at sig*
Even Sakurai sayd that music was from past battles:

Well i was going to quote it but it seems the site is down, i'm going to try later.

This song appears in a variety of games in the Metroid series.
It’s the theme song for Samus’s arch-nemesis, Ridley.

In the original game, most of the places where you heard this song were the sites of fierce battles.

As such, this arrangement features a suitable sense of cruelty and tension.
It's magnificent!

There you go Shuma. The most important bit is pointed out.

exactly. Ganondorf and Bowser case in point right there. I just think that in this game with how everything is if they are gonna be highlighted as a boss on the dojo that's what they are gonna be. I would think that Ridley being Ridley and being so high on the polls if Sakurai was going to reveal him as anything it would be a playable character first. and Vali you could be right about that too. lol and I could be way off. but im gonna go by this reasoning I guess until Sakurai reveals more about Ridley and bosses and stuff.

Thanks Caael. Also...

he wont be playable if he ends up in that game mode section that's for sure.
Yes. But what i meant with saying you whon't see Bowser or Ganondorf in there is 'cause they're probably Bossess and PCs.

Here's something to think about, maybe the ridley boss music came from the fact that that was the music heard when you fought him in the game.

Nothings definite till it's definite. Ridley was too big in the japanese forums to be underconsidered. So wait till he's claimed as a boss before rubbing this i n our faces.

Something that people forget... is that Ridley has made an appareance in all the smash games so far(2 :p) in the Brinstar stage on the 64 and on the intro on melee.

with pictures from both Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy, we can see that Bowser is absolutley massive. However, for sport and fighting games, they made him smaller. so what's stopping the developers from making Ridley smaller?

that's bowser's new size, canon wise. and let's not forget that Bowser is now BIGGER than his melee counter part in brawl. besides, what's lankyness got to do with a move set?

EDIT: I couldn't find a picture of Bowser in Galaxy on the net, but the UK's official nintendo magazine showed his pic, and he was huge! :)

Jesus! Don't you people sleep?

You're both Wrong about Mother Brain, she/he/it it's not even Ridley's boss, Ridley was sent to zebes to protect the oversized brain.

Ridley has been the Supreme command of the Pirates in all the games(supreme as in leader of operations) Ridley's boss is "Pirate HQ".
That's exactly what I said Shuma. You're pissing me off with all your random corrections even though I'm completely right.

HAHA!, i was right!, ridley is going to be a boss like master hand!. ridley fan***s just got owned so hard! :p
Oh, WTF? You're back? I thought you died from internal bleeding after the massive owning you took in the old Ridley thread.

I can see Ridley being a boss character VERY well. Though I doubt that NINTENDO will have us able to select Boss character as playable, a few months with Action Replay would prove otherwise :D
*slaps*

Why can't people just accept ridley being just a boss?, he always has been, always will be.
Yeah, so Mewtwo, Ganondorf, and Bowser have no chance of being in this game as playable.

Oh wai-

ridley was actually de-confirmed awhile ago with the ridley BOSS music update, Giga bowser was a SSBM boss only, and had a theme (the warped FD theme)
^whaddya make of THAT?!
You were actually deconfirmed as an intelligent debater awhile ago. You know, with all the nonsensical and illogical points you tried to make.

'He's too big.'
Ridley's size is hardly an argument. Smash is meant to bring fan-favorite Nintendo (mostly) characters into playable fighting form. As long as a moveset can be created for them then they are Smash-capable. Ridley size would not interfere with this. Bowser is a good example, as he has been much larger than Ridley ever has been in some games, but in other games (even Smash) he has been downsized to fit whatever role he is given. Ridley's role has always been as a boss. (an important one, at that) It's only natural for him to be large and imposing for this role. Ridley's role in Smash? To fight of course! So he would be easily downsized so he could do so with the rest of the Nintendo all-stars.

'He would look awkward.'
Ridley is large and lanky, yes. But, that is just how Ridley is. It's part of his character. He could still be made to fight in the world of Smash quite easily. Donkey Kong has a huge head and long, large arms, but small legs in comparison. Kirby and Jigglypuff have tiny, stubby arms and huge feet tacked on their round bodies. Yet, all of these examples have proven Smash-worthy, have they not? He may look a little different from your average human-shaped fighter, but give him a chance. ;)

'His design would be too hard to implement.'
Long head with huge powerful jaws. Great, mighty wings. Long, claw-tipped arms. Long, flexible pointed-tip tail. All part of the Ridley design. How could they implement all these great, fighting features you say? In Melee, that might have been very difficult. This is Brawl, however, and the recently confirmed Charizard throws this argument away. Charizard also follows the draconic design, so if they could make him work, then so too could they make Ridley.

'He would be an Assist Trophy.'
Ridley? An Assist Trophy? Let's look into what has been confirmed Assist Trophy material.

Hammer Bro. - A generic enemy of the Mario franchise.
Nintendog - Something to represent a very successful franchise that otherwise, could not have been represented in Smash. (Think of what critics would say about Smash if you were able to kick around a cute little puppy!)
Samurai Goroh - A rival of Captain Falcon. He was one of the first four F-Zero characters. Seems important enough to be playable, doesn't he? Not really... F-Zero hasn't really come along as a franchise as much as Metroid has recently. Main villains, like Black Shadow and Deathborn would be more likely if F-Zero were to get another representative. That is what Ridley is, a main villain.
Dr. Wright - Like the Nintendog, he is here to represent a series that was popular, but otherwise did not have enough going for him to make him playable.
Knuckle Joe - An enemy and helper character of the Kirby series. He's not important to the series, but is highly popular. Kirby is likely to be better represented this time around, with Meta-Knight and King Dedede joing him for Brawl. Knuckle Joe was likely just included as an Assist Trophy for his popularity.
Devil - A character from an old, popular game. He was included for the nostalgic effect, it would seem.

Now, Ridley is not a generic enemy like a Hammer Bro or Knuckle Joe. He is an important part of the Metroid series; He gave Samus her motives for becoming who she is, basically. He's a highly important villain in a very popular series in need of representation, unlike Goroh. Unlike the Nintendog and Dr. Wright, he is capable of fighting, and his respective game(s) is not old. The Devil is there to represent an old popular game series, something Metroid is not.

So, from what can be gathered, Ridley is not Assist Trophy material.

'He would be a boss.'
Ofcourse he should be. That is what he always has been. Does this mean he should be unplayable? No way! Bowser and Ganondorf have also been bosses, but they are playable in Melee. (Ridley is often considered the 'Bowser and Ganondorf' for Metroid) The recently confirmed boss, Petey Piranha, is not important to the Mario series. He's popular yes, but not important. Meta-Ridley, the huge cybernetic Dragon of Metroid Prime would make a great boss, in fact. He could stay his huge size. And attack in the same method. Dropping bombs for players to catch and throw back at him. Once grounded, he would use his dash attack to try and knock away players. That is when you dodge, and attack him during Meta-Ridley's lag. If you don't cause enough damage, look out for his plasma beam! It could be quite intense! 'Classic' Ridley however, could also be an earlier 'boss' that you must fight and defeat. He would be like a normal playable character, though. (Although probably made heavier to make him more difficult) Only later will he return as the monstrous Meta-Ridley boss. You may notice 'Boss Fight' in the title of Ridley's theme. This is only the name of the song used in the games, the 'Boss Fight' there to show Ridley's boss status in his games.

'He isn't popular, and non-important to the franchise.'
Nothing is further from the truth! Ridley is shown to have a long history with Samus herself. Him being the one who led the space pirates on the invasion of her home, destroying it, and her parents, in the process. He has always appeared as a boss in most of the Metroid games. (All but two, Metroid II and Metroid Prime: Echoes) He is also very popular. In Sakura's poll, from what he allowed us to see, Ridley was mentioned four times; The same amount as Diddy Kong and Ike, both of which are confirmed playable. These polls were japan-only, a place where Metroid is not very popular, yet Ridley is still very well-known there, and he is wanted.
Oasis_S FTW.

well yeah. im not arguing that. that's what i been trying to say.
I wish I could leap through my computer and punch you for being so close minded and ignorant to both the Metroid and Smash Bros franchise. We've proved all of you points wrong over and over, yet you still argue that he will and should be a boss.

No one on earth knows how hard i will laugh if i wake up tomarrow... Go on smashbros.com... Scroll down... A big Purple going to white screen (Boss Screen) And Ridley was on it!!! *Prepares Flame Sheild*

Because AR most likely not work with the Wii's updates.

Anyway, about this; I think that there will be playable bosses. By that I mean your most likely going to see Ridley as the same size he'd be when your unlock him.

I mean Ridley being a boss only is almost like saying King Dedede is going to be a boss only (Never going to happen). The reason why Petey is a boss only is because he's useless; he's not even notable/important like King Dedede or Ridley.
You can't compare Ridley to Dedede, Dedede is SAKURAI'S creation. He has and immunity to anything bad that could happen to characters this game.

Anyway, personally I want to see Ridely as a playable, but I also want to see him make an impact in the game other than for show like he was in the first two. If being a boss is the only way Sakurai feels he can get him in on the Smash universe then, so be it. In the end, I don't think it ALWAYS matters that a character gets to the playable roster. Some characters can be added in for other purposes, I'm just happy they are playing a big role in the game. My only problem is when a character is PERFECT for a roster spot, and they don't add them in it.

Just Like Giga Bowser/Master Hand/ Crazy Hand/ Sandbag!!! I meeen sandbag was playable via action replay!!! He had no moveset!!!! Jeez if Ridley is playable or a boss it doesn't really matter if you have extra money to buy a Action Wiiplay(That sounds so cool) You should be happy to see him as a boss and happier to see him playable!!! But god just stfu unless he in jeprody of not being in the game atall!!!

No, no he doesn't.
*Points to Kirby in the Subspace movie* Kirby was the ONLY character who did not get owned in that movie.

And Bowser, Ganondorf, and Mewtwo may not even be bosses. They may just have random monsters for Link. Ganondorf, may fight you, but that doesn't mean he will be a boss. Bowser may fight you, but that doesn't mean he will be a boss. Bowser's soul reason for causing trouble in Mario has already been taken by Petey... STEALING the princess!

Jesus christ if he is a boss he wont be properly playable even with AR limited move sets and stuff and not even working in most stages!

And FFS AR wont even work on the Wii so why don't you STFU because you obviously don't know **** about what your talking about.

If all that is true, then why can't Ridley's role be replaced by Kraid? Kraid would make for a better boss experience in Smash then Ridley anyway.

And Dedede doesn't get special treatment because he's Sakurai's creation. He wasn't hesitant to nerf the crap out of Kirby in Melee. He didn't even include Dedede or Metaknight even though they were some of the most anticipated characters for Melee. Sakurai is not making biased decisions in anyway. Dedede will have the same treatment as any other character.

Yeah, but just because you don't like Ridley doesn't mean he'll be a boss or he has less of a chance of being a playable character. All of your arguments were opinionated and on top of that, you were an *** about it. So you deserved it.

You did read the comment where he made it obvious he wasn't holding back this time didn't you? The fact that Kirby, Meta Knight, and Dedede were his favorite trio? The fact that he thought he would never see them again? And in the first game obviously he didn't feel that way about moderating his characters? If not, then too bad, because I'm not spoon feeding info.

And Kraid was nothing more than a guardian, he wasn't important. You don't know much about him, he was described no more than a mindless monster. Kraid did not appear in many of the games. And no one is asking for Kraid to appear in the game.

And thats EXACTLY what Petey is.
I don't think a mindless monster would capture something in a cage, take out the biggest threat in a group of enemies (first). He would probably run in a try eating everything first. I'm not giving credit to Petey or anything, but he definitely isn't a dimwitted as kraid appears.

I would like a link to where ever the hell he said that he wasn't "holding back" this time. You don't know what is going through his head unless he says so. He might be giving his characters special treatment, but it isn't confirmed in anyway, or even hinted, so don't say he is.

I know that Kraid is a mindless guardian. So is Petey. That's why they make for good boss characters, because they don't have the qualities to be playable like Ridley does. Ridley is up there with Ganondorf, Mewtwo, and Bowser in villainry and importance to his series, so there's no reason he should be demoted to a boss and not playable. By that logic, there shouldn't be any villains in Brawl. And please don't question my knowledge of the Metroid series again.

Those comments made by him where in the Japanese blog (which is long gone now), but you wouldn't know that, your knowledge and appreciation of Nintendo isn't great enough to take the time to learn about all of the character even one's that didn't appear in your country and could be in Brawl. Well if you were someone who could potentially never use the said characters you created again; your **** sure your going to use them in what could be the last Smash. I cannot speak for Sakurai's reasons for nerfing Kirby and not including any other members of the Kirby series, so I'll go off of what I think.

Kirby in 64 caused so much hate for the character, with the uproar of people calling him cheap, broken, etc Sakurai was really backed into a corner so he decided to bring him down ( -__- waaaay to much). Also Melee was on a really werid time table; he may not have had the time to implement his characters or perhaps he was a bit modest about using his series (for what ever reasons).

The main reason why King Dedede wouldn't be a boss only is based off the fact that Metaknight is playable. King Dedede was more important to Metaknight in the kirby series not having him playable would be a great disrepect to Sakurai and his fans ( I mean he had the most votes on the poll, I'm sure Sakurai's not just going to look at that and say " Oh so my own creation got the most votes on the poll, I think I'll make him a boss only ^_^). That if anything should of given him the clue to make him playable.

There's a translation of that entire blog in the Brawl Discussion forums, and no where did he say that he wasn't holding back this time, or giving special treatment to his characters. Don't put words in other people's mouths or question someone's intelligence like that, especially when you're the one who is a noob.

I'm sure he said that, I mean it was in japanese, and which I TAKE, and it wasn't translated. And I never said everything he said was on that site, I was refering to the comment about not being ab;e to see his creations again, and the trio. I can't remember where I read about not holding back. It probably wasn't exactly reffering to his characters. But His characters will probably be effected by that statement.

If anyone is the noob it's you, for not caring to know about all of Nintendo's character. I bet your nooby little face TWISTED with rage at the devil assist trophy update.

Oh ho! Listen to Youko's Podcast today, it should come out around 3 PM Central Time Zone. I discuss Ridelys chances in Brawl in my Bi-Weekly Section, plus Youko will most likely bring up Ridley when talking about Petey.
