Media Release
Adelaide – South Australia's reputation for being on the cutting edge of IT is about to get a boost, with the largest ever gathering of Australian computer gamers set to take place at the Adelaide Showground early next year.

The Reloaded Festival 2008 will be held on January 26th and 27th 2008. It will be the biggest gaming event in Australian history and the largest LAN Party event ever held in the southern hemisphere. Reloaded Festival 2008 will feature PC and console gaming tournaments, anime displays and competitions, a digital art competition, tabletop war gaming and much more.

Current estimates place attendance between 1200 and 1500 people, over a thousand of who will be attending the LAN gaming events. A major feature of the Reloaded Festival will be the massive CounterStrike: Source competition, with more than 40 five man teams expected to compete for glory - and the $5000 in cash prizes!

The Reloaded 2008 Festival continues to build on the success of previous years, including the sell-out Reloaded 2 event of 2007, which attracted over 500 people to the St Clair Recreation Centre. Pictures and a report of that event can be found at: http://www.salanning.org/viewtopic.php?id=97 .

The Reloaded Festival 2008 is backed by Adam Internet, a South Australian Internet Service Provider. (www.adam.com.au) Major infrastructure support is provided by Valhalla LAN Parties. (www.valhalla.net.au)

Background Information

Reloaded Events

Reloaded events have been held since July 2006, and this will be third and largest of these events. In fact this Reloaded event will be the largest gaming event of its kind ever held in Australia, the previous record of 1000 persons having been set in 2003 in Melbourne at the Telstra Dome.

Reloaded Events are run by the entire South Australian Computer and Console Gaming Community. Reloaded is also a not for profit organization with all money sowed back into the local community.

Reloaded events are coordinated through the South Australian LAN Association, whose website is based at www.salanning.org.

Competition List

Reloaded believes that rather than having 3 or 4 specialty comps, which appeal to limited audiences, we would rather have many comps that appeal to as many people as possible. In this way we look to the European LAN events like those run in Sweden and Norway.

Tag and Testing Procedure
All electrical gear must be tagged and tested prior to being plugged in to the venues power. Reloaded Management has staff who are trained and qualified in this area.

Proof of previous tagging will be required to prevent this, and persons are encouraged to have their gear tagged and tested beforehand to avoid lengthy delays.

Tagging and testing facilities will be available at the door, and during setup for those who wish to take advantage of this.

Qualified Reloaded staff will also be coming around to local gaming events and LAN’s over the next 3 months to tag and test machines. It is highly recommended that you take advantage of this procedure.

Tagging and Testing will be free if you have purchased a Reloaded ticket. It will be $5.00 if you have not. We strongly recommend you purchase a ticket.

If you have any further enquiries or require further information please email the committee at committee@reloadedlan.com.

Competition Registration
Reloaded Management wishes to advise that all team competitions and 1v1 competitions, plus the AVCON Quiz Night and Assassins game, require pre-registration.

Pre-registration will be in a similar manner to that which requires registering on GameArena. Please note that a ticket number is required when registering for competition.

You will need the following information in order to register -

Team Name, Player name, ticket number.

Please note: Team competitions with less than 8 registered teams prior to the event will be cancelled or have their prizes or prize money reduced. Individial competitions will be affected in a similar fashion.

The Pre-registration functions of the website will be enabled soon.

$5000 Counter Strike Source Competition

Reloaded is pleased to present the Counterstrike Source Competition for 2008. Last Reloaded saw the biggest Counterstrike Tournament ever held in Australia at a LAN event, and this year we expect forty teams to participate.

Due to so many teams participating, the competition will run in two stages.

1. Group Stages – All teams will play off in group stages with the finalists to be determined by how many groups there are. Its likely the top 8 will make it through to the finals. This will be in the evening of day 1.
2. The Finals – 8 teams will play off in a double elim finals series which will be carried on HLTV across the internet and across the venue.
3. The Loser Bracket – all teams eliminated on day 1 will play off in a single elimination comp for a consolation prize.

Pre-registration for this competition is essential.

Rule sets are likely to be fairly standard, and can be expected to be released shortly.

$1500 Warcraft 3: Defense of the Ancients 5v5 Competition

Reloaded is pleased to yet again present DOTA as one of its major competitions at this event.

This event is likely to be done in group stages, with a single elimination final series. This event is currently scheduled for the afternoon/evening of Day 1 of the event.

Rule sets will almost certainly follow the CAL league rules.

Pre-registration for this competition is essential.

Quake 3: 1v1 Tournament

The Reloaded Quake 3 Tournament consists of 1v1 matches. The competitors will compete for a prize purse of $1000 in total plus hardware prizes

Game Version Played : Quake 3 (1.32c)
Tournament Mod : CPMA (1.43 or latest version)
Gameplay Type : VQ3

Competitors are required to pre-register in order to compete in the Reloaded Quake 3 Tournament.

All tournament matches are to be played on the Reloaded competition servers.

Teams will be seeded by Reloaded committee which will be based upon match records and players input. Disrupting the fairness of seeding by aliasing may result in forfeiting from the competition.

The tournament will be composed of a group-play round which will progress to a Double Elimination style bracket. A player will be awarded 3 points for a win in group-play with the top XX qualifying for the Double Elimination bracket.

Reloaded is pleased to have AVCON onboard as one its partners for this event.

Quiz night

Test your knowledge of video games, anime and other geek topics against
your fellow lanners.

The quiz night is one of AVCon's most popular and enjoyable events,
having been run locally at AVCon and other interstate conventions. Get
together a group of 8-10 people and be sure to pre-register early to
have a chance at winning the prize, for everyone else can be assured at
during the quiz night and at its conclusion there shall be candy and you
will be given cake*

* The cake is a lie

Game Show

Two teams battle it out in a battle of wit, humor, intelligence and
creativity with AVCon's famous Super Happy Game Show coming to
Reloaded! While you will be competing against the other team you are
also out to win the prize and if you find yourself with the least points
on your team you might eliminated! With a wide range of events blatantly
ripped off the likes of 'Spicks and Specks', and 'Whose Line Is It
Anyway?' as well as some of AVCon's own it's sure to be a laugh.

For more information please visit the avcon website at www.avcon.org.au or the reloaded site at www.reloadedlan.com

Weather you are sick of pwning noobs or just want a 5 minute break from
the LAN area AVCon has a dedicated area for all your favorite console
games. Running competitions throughout the weekend including Super Smash Brothers Melee, Wii Tennis and Tekken 5. AVCon will also be running a competition over a number of different games to see who will become the
Ultimate Gamer.

Screenings

Of course AVCon has always been about anime as much as it has gaming and we have an entire weekend of not only anime but machinma, trailers,
live-action and videos from previous AVCon years.

Maid Cafe

It's some ungodly hour in the morning and for the last 5 hours you have
been playing TF2 and seriously need caffeine, usually you would have to
actually get up and leave your table and locate said caffeine or travel
to the canteen but not anymore. AVCon's maids will be on hand to take
your orders and deliver food and drinks right to your table.

Human Chess

Watch as two teams battle it out on a life size chess board as two
people direct the game play in this interactive game of chess.

Flights are about $120 each way.
I'm thinking of going the Thursday the 24th or Friday the 25th morning and coming back Monday lunchtime.
BUT, i want to know who else may be coming, and their plans!

I'm mostly going for the Goldeneye, and the experience...
Should be fun.
Still playing Smash though!

There is now just 4 weeks to go until this event takes place. We've had some setbacks - a venue and a sponsor dispute - but this event will definitely be going ahead.

The venue for this will now be the St Clair Recreation Centre in Woodville, we anticipate using both sides of the venue. There are a number of advantages in this change:

1. Car Parking will now be free
2. Food and Catering will now be considerably cheaper tp purchase
3. There will be no change to prize moneys or ticket entry costs
4. Machines will not have to be tagged and tested prior to or during the event.

Tickets are selling rapidly, but are still available from all outlets and online. More details are available at http://www.reloadedlan.com

Floating a request out there to any particular party who may owe me, either a favour or cash, there's enough of both parties out there right now.

Due to serious time contraints, I won't be around to book tickets until right before the event (in fact, by the time you read this, i'm probably already out of the country). Could someone purchase these for me ahead of time so I don't miss out? I'm good to pay you back the moment i get back (3 weeks time), I just need someone to help me get them for me before they run out.

Alternatively, any of you who owe me money from the trip in brisbane can use this opportunity to get rid of that debt now! I'm looking at all you people who haven't paid me for the car rental haha.

I'll try to check the boards while oversea's, for updates and to get in touch, so just leave a message here or email me if you can help. (Or to avoid multiple people completely missing each other's good will if more then one person decides to be awesome and help out)

Oh yeah, Vincent said he needs help with tickets too, as he's on a trip somewhere to 2 weeks also. If anyone can get tickets for him too, that would be appreaciated. I can cover for his costs if anything goes wrong, so you won't lose money either way.

Anyways, hope someone can help! Otherwise i'm going to be very sad at missing out when I get back! =o

Adelaide won't be the same without me! Srsly!

Thanks in advance haha.

Hey Jamage. I'm getting to the airport real early. I think 7am. It's looking like I'll have to take a taxi somewhere, I have no idea where. I'm arriving on the 24th, which is before the tournament...where will I stay until I get accommodation at the tournament?

Or better yet, can you organise someone to get me and find a place for me to stay?

Reloaded is over for 2008, and we'd like to thank those who attended in any capacity. it was good to see so many new faces, and so many old ones seemingly back from the dead.

The Reloaded Committee would like to thank all of our sponsors who made this event possible including our title sponsor Adam Internet, our major sponsors, Altech and NRG Systems, Thermaltake, Mega and the South Australian Government, and Sierra. Reloaded would also like to thank all of our other sponsors, vendors and stallholders who made it down on the day. Mention should also be made of the Team AU overclockers and the Gamestah shoutcasting crew as well.

A full report will be up shortly.

No prob. I apologise to everyone about what happened with the start of the SSBM 1v1 even if it wasnt my fault, it ended good though and according to Cao had the best team comp ever (it was damm good).

We know what went wrong and 95% is easily fixed and we guarentee it will be even better next time. (which will probly be in Winter)
