Better gamer reputation with non gamers = more people playing Smash?

I also LOL at the people who aren't comfortable with "games=/=RL". It's been, what, 25-30 years since the NES came out? And so far it seems society hasn't collapsed (and where it is arguably collapsing--economically--it's been none of the video game industry's fault). Yet apparently if I purchase an FPS (in which you generally play a SOLDIER, some of the most-respected people at least in American society) I'll be a serial killer by next Tuesday.

don't talk about my community like that

but seriously, the only thing I see wrong with the show is that it's on G4, from what i've skimmed. Can someone give me the tl;dr so i can make sure I know what i'm talking about?

Maybe I misunderstood the link, but from what I read that show has nothing to do with actual video games.

I know that, I play videogames myself. But I don't feel like I belong to some special club or something like some people seem to.
I can understand that. Just like someone that watches movies here and there doesn't consider themselves a movie goer or theatre critic.
It's basic human nature though to flock to others that have the same likes as you, for better or for worse.

InferiorityComplex makes a good point though, if you're interested in encouraging others to Smash, you should be interested in how the world views you as a Smash player.
If you agree that the Reality TV show described in the link is terrible and has nothing to do with gamers, or at least how gamers should be, then let people know. It can only help the scene, right?

For the past maybe five years I think G4 has become a third rate Spike TV. It's emphasis since acquiring Tech TV has been the male demographic, not games. Guys like action and gadgets and that's what G4's programming is about. The correlation between video games and exploiting the soldiers and what ever else they were trying to say was ridiculous. I believe the interest in this show comes from the recent critical reception of the Hurt Locker, and a documentary on these soldiers actually fits well with the G4 programming. Most viewers would be able to relate to it because I'm sure most people are sick of the war and have friends or family involved in it. This show gives a real account of what's going on and the audience will watch it with their hearts and surely not wanting a disaster to happen.
