Giving Rayman a cuter look as you said would probably help a lot. Don't really know if giving Rayman a proper species would be necessary though.
Maybe also redesign some of the human-esque characters in Rayman's world as well. I remember they did that with Ly in the Japanese version of Rayman 2 to...mixed results

Something is going on with 2Chan regarding Ubisoft and Smash:

http://sp.2ch.sc/test/read.cgi/ghard/1529521437

This is the thread title, when google translated:【Breaking News】 UBI "We are not obliged to take out characters if there is an offer interested in Smash Bra"

I have no clue where the announcement is coming from, but Japan is seemingly getting this news first. You guys heard anything from Ubisoft about Smash stuff recently?

(Also, a warning, don't click on the imgur link in the OP, as it has nothing to do with the supposed announcement, it is just a disgusting image)
Huh.

Honestly, aside from keeping an eye on it, if there's really no real source of news I don't really think we should give it any other thought.

I love rayman more than any other mascot, but Sakurai develops the game based on Japanese tastes, and unfortunately the Japanese don't like Rayman or don't know their existence.

I believe that the Japanese want more to a disgusting rabbit ....

Rayman got a trophy in Smash 4, along with Globox and Barbara, while the Rabbids got nothing. I feel like there's still hope.

I mean if that were solely the case we wouldn’t have Little Mac or Ridley in the game. Sakurai listens to western fans too.

Rayman still has a shot.

My biggest fear when it comes to Ubisoft representation. I wouldn't mind the Rabbids in smash, especially since Mario + Rabbids was great and I'd love a sequel. But Rayman first.
I honestly don't know about the Rabbids. It doesn't help that they showed up in TMNT Smash-Up for no reason at all other than "this is a game made by us, so we can put in our company mascots if we want to".

I have it a little, because in an interview before the release of Smash 4, some people (media org) asked michel Ancel, who would win from Mario vs. Rayman? and he answered, wait a while and they will know.
Then it happened the problem exclusive of rayman in wii u

In this case they will put to sora or banjo, both disgust me...

Rayman’s reputation may put him above the Rabbids. Sure, the Rabbids may be more popular now (may, I don’t really know lol) but Rayman is an icon. So a slight possible advantage

I mean, I can get not supporting Banjo because he's owned by Microsoft now, but disgusts you? Banjo is very similar visually and personality wise to many. Nintendo characters (and Rayman), what could possibly disgust you about the character?

Those who are worried about the Rabbids being prioritized over Rayman really need to realize that this is very unlikely to transpire for one reason and one reason only:
The initial project plan for Smash Ultimate was finalized back in December 2015.
Even if this project plan did not include the final roster, it's not an impossibility to think that Sakurai decided who to add to Ultimate in early 2016.
The Rabbids may be considered viable contenders now, but were they back in late 2015/early 2016? I'd argue not as much.
Look, nothing's a guarantee with Smash. Just take a look at what happened with Smash 4 DLC. However, the Ballot was and may very well be the driving force for the game's newcomers and during that time, you could make an argument Rayman's popularity was at its peak. Whether that's enough to secure him a spot or if he even got enough votes, that's something that we'll just have to wait and see.

This isn't a good argument imo, and I've seen it so many times in this very thread, I feel like finally addressing it.

As I've said before, Sakurai probably knew about the game before. On top of this Ubisoft may very well wanted to push the Rabbids, seeing Mario and Rabbids is a thing, and could've approached him about it beforehand.

Rayman and Rabbids in Smash is going to come down to Sakurai, plain and simple, but the timing of Mario and Rabbids is absolutely within the window of where Ubisoft would try and get them in the game.

Is 3rd party completely up to Sakurai though? Or do they get some say? Like if Ubisoft wanted to prioritize the Rabbids now.

If it's all on Sakurai I'd be shocked if he included the Rabbids before Rayman. I mean, I know he likes his troll characters, but not at the expense of gaming icons. It'd be like putting Waluigi in the game before Luigi.

One reason I could see the Rabbids not making it into Smash as a fighter, due to their reputation.

I don't know these companies nor do I claim to, but at the very least Nintendo and even Ubisoft should know that the Rabbids have sort of mixed to negative reputation.

Now, Mario+Rabbids has made a lot of people warm up to the little buggers, but remember the amount of animosity the game got when it was leaked several months prior? It was nuts, and it even demotivated the development from what I here. It's great that they made a good game and proved a lot people wrong.

If you thought Corrin was the most controversial newcomer, image the reaction to a Rabbid, even in a post Mario+Rabbids world.

Now, again, I'm not gonna claim I know how Sakurai and Ubisoft's minds work, they could of very well said "**** it, we'll put Rabbids in the game" and didn't give it a second thought. I fully acknowledge that a Rabbid as a fighter is very much a possibility. This is just my personal take on the matter.

Although I do understand where you are coming from, there are a few things to point out.
First of all, Sakurai has not included any third parties for promotion. If you don't believe me, take a look at Bayonetta. Much like Rabbids, her game was in production at the time of the latest Smash (in this case, Smash 4). However, unlike the Rabbids, Bayonetta 2 was announced a little after development began on Smash 4, which was shortly after the release of Uprising. Despite this, though, Bayonetta was not included in the base game and when she was included, it was because of fan demand. It just so happened she had a recent game on Nintendo hardware.
Even if Ubisoft put 100% of their effort behind the Rabbids being included in Smash, Ubisoft isn't the one that's calling the shots. It's Sakurai and ALL parties have to agree on the choice. This applies to Rayman as much as it does to the Rabbids.
In the end, promotion has only been evident in first party inclusions such as Robin, Corrin, and Greninja. Third parties can push for their characters all they want, but Sakurai is the one who needs to see the potential in the fighter, and I don't see him starting third party promotions with Ultimate given the limited amount of newcomers we are getting.
That's my take, though.

Today everything is posible, and more with the love that nintendo and microsoft have now
I dont know, the game seemed very childish and boring, medieval and conker it was better.

Have y'all forgotten the cloud situation? He has like no representation on Nintendo but his series has, and he was the most requested character from his series so they went with him.
Who is the most requested Ubisoft character? Rayman no doubt

If it's about money why would they go for rabbids when only like 10 people probably want them in? Lol

That makes alot of sense, & I really hope you're right. (come to think of it, Sakurai wouldn't have added Pac-Man to the game unless it was the classic design, Namco's requests be d***ed.)

I mean, I literally said its Sakurai's choice at the end of the day.

We don't know how hard 3rd parties have pushed their characters in the past to be in Smash. We've seen smaller devs make little movesets for the ballot, but that's about it. If Ubisoft really pushed Rabbids, we have no clue what would happen. It all comes down to Sakurai.

There's also a perception a lot of you are missing. They seem to be perceived much more favorably in Japan. If they are more popular over there, he's going to have a different take on the characters than we're going to see here.

All I'm saying is, don't put your confidence in the idea they won't make it before Rayman. We have really no clue how Sakurai views either characters, how hard Ubisoft is trying to get either in, and how Sakurai responds to their efforts. Essentially, we don't know ****, and it's only sensible to not write anything off.

I'm actually still pretty confident that Rayman would get in first due to ballot popularity and the fact that the director of mario rabbids has said on Twitter he would be so happy if they got in and the way he talks about it, it sounds like they're not it, which I'm pretty sure he'd know since sakurai works closely with third parties when including their characters

Meanwhile Ubisoft has been pretty quiet about Rayman and smadh ultimate vs how they were in the ballot days

What 3rd-parties were popular on the ballot alongside RTay besides Snake/Cloud/FF Character/Bayonetta?

If Rayman were to (hopefully) get in the game, I feel like he would be base roster. I just don't think he's quite on the same level as some 3rd Party characters that are extremely popular and people other than those who just want the complete roster are willing to fork over money for - Cloud, Ryu.

While I have no doubt that Rayman is popular, I think there may be other likely 3rd Party characters better suited for DLC - Banjo-Kazooie, Geno, Shadow. They need to save some big characters (1st & 3rd Party) for DLC after all

We'll never truly know tbh. No one would've known Cloud was popular on the ballot if Sakurai didnt say it.

See. I don't think they're going to purposefully hold back anybody. Sakurai does what he can to ensure the game feels complete at launch even if he has future DLC plans. If Rayman, Banjo, Geno, and Shadow were all extremely high on the ballot, then they're going to try and have them all in at launch (and the latter is easy since he would be an echo).

I'd only see them holding back if they knew somebody wouldn't be completed in time for release or they wanted to strike a certain balance between first party and third party base newcomers to not upset people that favor one over the other.

Just dropping by to say that Rayman has my full support! His games are amazing and he seems to have better chances than before at getting in with Ubisoft's growing relationship with Nintendo. But please, whatever they do, just keep the Rabbids to a Trophy at most, or maybe an appearance in Rayman's Final Smash. (Although I'd prefer it to be a reference to the Mosquito Ride levels from Rayman 1/Origins...)

I've decided to draw all of my most wanted newcomers in one image, but since this is a Rayman thread, I'll let you guys take a look at the little bugger.

I'll post the final result later (Of Rayman... I'm not sure if I'm allowed to show the entire piece with all the other characters here)
Will the whole thing be posted in the general too?

Thank you for clarifying that for me. Still getting acustomed to the boards.

Sure. I might as well.

There was actually one 'leak' posted here earlier saying that Rayman would be a character

Granted, after ArtsyOmni I have low expectations of everything, but these are always fun to look at.

Am I the only one who don't really like the modern version of Rayman ? I mean, Rayman in Origins and Legends doesn't feel like the good ol' Rayman. He seems really bland while old Rayman has a fun personality and a bit of nonchalance that makes him cool. The new one (the other characters and the universe) seems like he's from some kind of mediocre cartoon. But that's just my opinion.

Or maybe I'm not objective at all because i didn't like the last two games, but i really miss the old Rayman and if Sakurai had to pick one, i hope he would pick the old one (just like he did with Pac-Man)

I still support him and hope he's going to make it into the game, i would be really happy !
