Rayman is such a classic video game character, he deserves to be in Smash! I really hope he gets into Smash!

Here's a bit of a discussion: Who do you think would be a better "Hair-based" fighter, Rayman or Dixie?

I personally think Rayman would be the better choice, because while it's not a DK rep like Dixie could be, he still could use most of Dixie's possible hair attacks and still have a plethora of other options to work with in order to make a Smash character.

*snip
Probably been posted before, but whatever. Was looking for a Rayman Sig stamp but so be it. Lol
That's been posted hundreds of times, it's still cool looking though!

rayman doesnt use hair much in battle other than the whole flying thing right? dixie actually uses it for throwing.

rayman doesnt have very long hair either. might as well just headbutt them.

I was more thinking the spinning aspect of it. If we discount the possible flying moves (Up B, Up air, etc.), his Up-Smash could be similar to Juniors, and maybe it could be used for his Side smash as well.

I was using hair as more of a character trait more than the thing he uses in battle, Dixie has a few hair based moves that Rayman could also use to some extent, but she doesn't have the amount of material that Rayman does to create a full moveset outside of the hair.

then he isn't a "hair based fighter" (in your words). he is a fighter who happens to use hair in some moves.

...Dixie has less hair moves than Rayman?

Dixie does practically everything with her hair, the only thing Rayman does with his hair is fly.

Besides the rare occasion of using it to cut rope or something, and a scrapped blowing mechanic in Origins.

I'm not saying she has less, I'm saying that a few could be used for Rayman, who has more moveset potential overall.

I guess you've got me there, I just honestly think that while both use hair attacks to differing degrees, that Rayman could use a couple of Dixie's possible moves and turn out to be the more original fighter of the two.

The only thing even slightly comparable between the two is gliding through the air, and Dixie does so by literally spinning herself while Rayman's actual hair does the spinning, this is completely different in mechanical function.

Rayman would definitely be more unique though, probably on par with Mega Man if not more so, depending on how he's handled.

What I wonder, is which form they would use? On one hand, they could pull a Pac-man/Megaman, and give us the Rayman that was from Rayman 1-2 (Maybe 3 too)

Then again they might just go with the origins/Legends one, since the trophies are already present from there.

I personally hope its a hybrid, somewhat. Pulling stuff from both forms.. Perhaps pull the energy balls he shoots in Rayman 2, some of the powerups from 3, and stuff from Origins and legends? As well as anything else I missed

Pardon me for getting swept up in the one hundred and sixty two pages of this thread.. lol

I also only started chatting on all these threads just last night. I didn't have time to fully examine the entire thing.. It is fairly detailed after all.

Speaking of the OP, it is a very impressive collection of information. The moveset looks great too. Complements Ray well.

I'm starting to get nervous that WayForward and Yacht Games are stepping up their game when it comes to the Smash Ballet while Ubisoft hasn't put in a lot of effort.

If Shovel Knight gets in over freaking Rayman, I am going to lose it. He isn't even ONE year old yet, but the people that want him in also think that Rayman isn't iconic enough.

Reminder that indies have absolutely no shot whatsoever.

Along with the likes of Bayonetta.

If any of them ever get in, then Sakurai can't be believed and Ridley could have been playable ages ago.

I don't see how Bayonetta has no shot whatsoever. She just came off of a big Wii U exclusive game with Nintendo looking into doing a third. Any problems with her vulgarity could be solved by simply not having those things in Smash. :/

What the ever loving hell is giant Spyro propaganda doing in here? This is the Rayman thread, bloke.

Bayonetta has two games, she's not an iconic character with an iconic franchise, she's not even old enough.

Sakurai said that third parties are special cases, they have to be a certain caliber to be in Smash.

I thought Smash was a place for iconic third parties to fight, not an advertisement for indies.

Also, get Spyro outta here. He ain't getting in.

Would rather have had the likes of spyro in PS All Stars, that game is hysterically underrated! It's long dead now though lol, it just got slaughtered.

Don't know about the other indies, but Shantae at least has a chance. As others have pointed out she wasn't always indie. She has history with Nintendo.

But lets be honest here, it doesn't matter how popular a character is, or if they are First party/Third/Indie or not. It all depends on Sakurai. As long as a character translates well into the game, I don't see why one character should have less of a chance over another. That would be like saying Rayman has less of a chance than, say, Captain Toad. As through that logic, just because he is a first party character, he could get in over Ray just because he is 3rd party.. Nintendo has said nothing about 3rd party or indie characters having any less of a chance as a first party.. infact it would undermine the entire "All game characters are eligible, not just first party" thing they said yesterday.

At this point, it would depend on how well the character translates into the game, and if they would make for a unique enough fighter.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for Spyro... he has about as much of a chance as Crash, and I've already stated how I feel about Activision before if I recall.

First parties and third parties are a different ballgame. You can't compare Rayman to Captain Toad because one is from Nintendo.

As cool as Shantae is, she's only slightly higher up than Bayonetta. The point is that third parties have to be icons of gaming, someone that loads of people know, someone who's been around for a long time and has an entire large, well selling franchise. Rayman is Ubisoft's mascot, and he fits the bill for everything else, he's at least as iconic as Mega Man is.

Bayonetta, Shantae, etc. They don't even come close.

For indies in particular, film is a good analogy. You can make the best home video ever, but it's never going to be Titanic.

Thanks. Glad you liked it.
I really like the idea, and like the details. What exactly is happening, if I can ask? What is Ray Cormac doing to Rayno?

...Until I noticed that Ray Cormac is about to assassinate Rayno, that is...

xD Yeah, I just noticed that assassin knife just as I posted that in... =u=;; My bad, sorry about that...
No worries! xD I feel that Shay is mostly depicted with the Air Riffle or a sword/dagger than the Hidden Blade....>u> but I was lazy to draw the Riffle for Ray...

Understandable. But hey, it still was a nice touch regardless. Glad that you drew this, that honestly made my night. It's quite charming and funny.

I wouldn't see characters like Bayonetta in since she is still relatively young as a character.. Plus as far as rated M goes, she would be three times worse than Snake.. I mostly mentioned Shantae due to her history with Nintendo. She was inactive for practically 8 years though after her first game in 2002 tho.. She has only just recently started regaining a foothold. It would suck if that was all that was holding her back though, as she looks like she would be a good candidate.

On a side note, for the character Snake himself, I have sort of a love hate relationship with that character in terms of smash... On one hand, I loved the codec thing he introduced to the playing field, and I also somewhat liked his unique moveset. On the other hand, I despised him for how much he just stuck out in the game... Even with the game being fairly desaturated compared to other installments to begin with, he still managed to be the most edgy toned character in the game.. and to me, that just doesn't translate well into a game like smash... I mean his grab attack is *CHOKING THE OPPONENT* for gosh sake..

Snake is more off the wall than a lot of Nintendo's own characters, you can't judge a book by its cover.

It's not like Smash is about bringing different characters together anyway, right? It's no weirder than Mario punching Samus.

Oh boy, got some catching up to do.
Love Earth Gwee's work!
To support the cause, I made a Rayman WWII propaganda poster.

I remember when this this thread only had about 7 pages worth of posts and a few supporters. I'm really proud to see how we've grown to a thread worth 160+ pages, with 150 supporters and counting. We can't waste the opportunity given to us by a certain *cough* leak because if we do, we will eventually lose momentum and remain stagnant in support like a certain purple, dragon-like creature who is unfortunately too big to be in Smash (was most requested character, but support dwindled due to lack of moral). COME ON GUYS! SUPPORT AND VOTE FOR RAYMAN AT THE SMASHBALLOT SO HE MAY ONE DAY BE PLAYABLE! and Paper Mario too...
Great work! I love these I want you posters.

Next thing you know, Activision is going to retweet the Smash Ballet and ask people to vote for Crash Bandicoot.
Actually, they would ask people to vote for Spyro, Skylanders Spyro :troll:
