He already let Nintendo down financially once why would they trust gamers to pay for him a second time?

Anyway, Terra Branford hails from the SNES classic Final Fantasy VI. If Square Enix weren't so stingy and we were to get a Final Fantasy character, it would certainly be the more iconic Black Mage. (There's also Cloud Strife, but he hasn't appeared on a Nintendo platform outside of cameos, so he's out of the question.) Terra also lacks ballot support.

Well, I do like FFVI, and I think Terra would make an interesting addition to the roster.

Chance: 1%. Terra is the lead of one of the most popular Final Fantasy games and is on the SNES, but there isn't much unified Terra support.

Want: 100%. Better than Black Mage (go play Robin). Why go for a generic and boring option like Black Mage just because it's "iconic?" Terra herself is much more acclaimed and I think represents the character depth that Final Fantasy and JRPGs are suppose to have. Black Mage doesn't have that. I know this is Smash where character depth doesn't matter, but I would like to see an exception made for a series like Final Fantasy. Also, esper powers. That stuff is too cool.

While she is one of the more notable FF protagonists from the NES/SNES era, she's not the most popular or well known in the franchise. Cloud, Black Mage, Cecil and a few other characters beat her out in that regard, and would likely be the choice for Final Fantasy if they were to prioritize a character. That also ignores characters like Slime who also hail from popular SE games and would be more preferable choices for the company. So more then likely she would not be chosen as a third party for the franchise.
