More balance is good, especially since Mac has a disadvantage on Final Destination. Platforms are good for anyone with these disadvantages and matches would be a bit more fair (hence why it's the last stage for an average round of Smash Run).

Advance Wars hasn't seen a game in a long time, mainly because of the Fire Emblem series taking the spotlight as Intelligent Systems' most iconic game series and one they have confidence in continuing. Advance Wars needs a bit of catching up to do if it needs to make it into Smash Bros. I'm also uncertain if he'll make it in from the Ballot, since he doesn't have the same push as King K. Rool. To warrant an appearance as Smash DLC or for a Newcomer in Smash 5, Andy and the Advance Wars series needs to become a more recognisable face for the current generation of gamers, and also a push from Intelligent Systems to make an Advance Wars on the same caliber as Awakening.

For me, it's a toss up between Sami or Andy if I were to choose a representative for Advance Wars. I would probably prefer Sami since it'd be nice to have another female gun user in Smash Bros outside of what Bayonetta or Zero Suit Samus could offer, and have more moveset potential using heavy artillery weapons. I wouldn't have a problem with Andy, and it's nice to bring back a classic GBA series. Though when are we going to get Advance Wars 2 on Virtual console, Nintendo, or better yet, a new Advance Wars game?

I have yet to play a Wars game (Famicom, Game Boy, Advance, Battalion, whatever), but I'm somewhat interested in seeing that series getting more representation in Smash aside from that one Assist Trophy.

Advance Wars is represented in Smash currently with the Assist Trophy, but beyond that the franchise doesn't have too much going for it in regards to Smash. Andy has a loyal following but overall nothing big enough to put him in the forefront when it comes to support, let's not forget that Intelligent Systems is now focused on Fire Emblem, which is pretty much Sakurai's new fave, though I don't rule out the possibility of a new Advance Wars game in the future after Fire Emblem has finished, but as of now there really isn't much going for Andy IMO...

Ballot support seems to be moderate at the very best, so I kinda doubt it'll help him much.

The upstart young CO from the Advance Wars games, though he only plays a major role in the first two of them. A strategy-heavy series with a more modern, militaristic bend than Fire Emblem, Wars hasn't seen much in Smash outside of an Assist Trophy in Brawl. The Smash Ballot may bode well for him, giving the fans a chance to nominate what the developers have overlooked.

Not that it helps him much. Though Advance Wars has a following, it's...on the small side. While Andy is one of the stars of the portable games (sans Days of Ruin, anyway), Sami is also getting some attention, dividing an already small support base. Then you consider that the series has been dormant for seven years, longer than even Golden Sun...and you realize that unless something serious gets going, Andy's support isn't likely to grow.

Though I've seen some intriguing moveset ideas, none of that could overcome a character with low support whose home series has fallen out of the spotlight. No Hyper Repair can fix that, unfortunately.

It's about time AW (or the Wars series in general) had a rep in Smash Bros given it's long history and the fact that at one point (pre-Brawl) it was in a more healthy position than Fire Emblem. As for who should rep the series, Andy is a much better choice than Sami is TBH seeing as he's the vocal point of the game and Sami comes in like halfway through the campaign. Further proving this is the fact that Andy is mandatory to use in the last mission of the game whereas Sami isn't. Honestly, even Max is more relevant than she is.
