True, Sakurai loves Fire Emblem, but I think Nintendo's got the message that the fanbase thinks it's a bit overrepresented by this point. Especially if we're getting Roy in soon. Including Roy, that would mean FE has the same number of playable characters as Zelda, which I think is a bit better of a seller... Another DLC FE character would put them over Zelda...

Besides, as my title joke goes, Anna's already referenced as Robin's red recolor. True, that's never stopped anyone before, but it is something to keep in mind.

Not really that much else to say on her though. She's been recurring in FE, but as a shopkeeper. She's not the most requested FE character, since so many people are begging for Roy to return, so she may end up staying in the secret shop.

We have enough FE. They're cool enough, especially as unique as Robin is, but I think we have enough now. Let's let another series shine, preferably one that has sold numerous games and only has two playable representatives so far...

And besides, we're going nuts enough trying to get all the amiibo, and it's the FE characters that Nintendo doesn't realize to make enough of. We really don't need another. Or else we will have to go to Anna's secret shops to even find it...​

Anna - The merchant from FE that makes an appearance in almost every game. (Felt like being actually descriptive today).

Chance: 40% - Let's be honest. I was thinking Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina were going to be it for Fire Emblem, because even that seemed like a bit much for the series after it almost ended. However, now there's a good chance that we might get Roy, something I also didn't expect, seeing as how Chrom wasn't added due to being "another FE swordsman." I wouldn't be too surprised if they added another FE character, it would almost seem that they are trying to heavily promote the series. On the other hand, people are definitely thinking Roy is either enough or pushing it, so perhaps they'll relax. As it is, Anna doesn't have too much support in the ballot. She has a good amount of support, just not super star support.

Want: 20% - Honestly, I might actually prefer Anna to Roy, simply because there is no chance of Anna being a Marth clone. Given, I'd definitely be right and dandy with Roy if he weren't a Marth clone, but I'm ever skeptical, so in general, Anna wouldn't bother me too much. That said, there are other characters I'd prefer over Anna. Maybe the new protagonist from FE If. However, that choice might be a bit too recent, but hey, just throwing some options up.

Predictions: B.B. Bandit Trio - Hmm, Ice Climbers have difficulty being a duo, and we've already established that Chorus Men would be problematic as a trio. Regardless, I have research to do I presume. 15%

Most prominent character in the series since the first game and had her role expanded to a Trickster in the most recently released Awakening. With Roy coming back, it's safe to say that there's far too little of a chance for another FE DLC character to happen. At least she can be a bit unique being a thief in comparison to another swordsmen (Unless you are named Kamui or X non-swordsman Fire Emblem character). She's also not that much of a requested ballot choice, which also hurts her even more.

Like Anna and thieves, but I've got my eyes set on Ephraim (R.I.P.) and Kamui. She does get credit for being a funny character in Awakening and being the only reason to go shopping in every FE title. Anna's 'signature weapon' from Awakening, the Levin Sword is already being used extensively throughout Robin's moveset. She could be unique, be it her Trickster Class or her ultimate goddess form or a reclass system. I see people are bringing up Kamui quite a lot as Anna's main competition for another FE DLC character, but Kamui's game isn't out yet. Let's wait until Fire Emblem-Amie comes out to see what Kamui is capable of.

I shall stress again this note - As much as I love Fire Emblem, all I could ever ask for from this series at this point in time is Roy. Many have already stressed it, but Five FE characters is a touch unbalanced in Smash Bros at the moment. Fire Emblem has tons of unique characters, and many of them would provide something cool or unique if applied to the constructs of a fighting game, but I think Fire Emblem having more than 5 characters when compared to something like Donkey Kong which is in desperate need for a newcomer, it's pushing it. I'd rather see Anna in a Fire Emblem fighting game like Dissidia Final Fantasy or like Pokkén Tournament.

Actually, I was a pretty big fan of Anna getting in before Robin was announced, as she could continue to appear in Smash without coming off as old and irrelevant in future installments, a dilemma that every other FE character faces (besides Marth, as being first has some degree of constant importance).
Even so, like many others, I can't deny the fact that I can't get too excited about more FE characters. I'm still up for seeing her in the future, though.

I love as really pushing for her prelaunch but got what I've wanted anyway. She's been with the series since the beginning but she hasn't really had a role until FEA.

She's a recurring character, and... that's about all she has going for her. Okay, she's also the exaggeratedly overpowered boss of the Apotheosis DLC map from Awakening. And she's also a playable character in this game. Those merits, however, are not saying much in my opinion to consider her as a viable candidate for Smash Bros. Despite her recurrence she isn't that iconic of the Fire Emblem series, as lords and other game protagonists are generally used over her to represent Fire Emblem in promotional material, and her playable status in Awakening is more of an easter egg than anything else with her recruitment being done through an optional paralogue and her supports being very limited. Her appearances in FE games never had been particularly standing-out individually (except the OP DLC boss I guess), as she generally have been a background merchant or tutorial teacher at most. To add to injury Robin already uses the Levin Sword, her signature weapon from FE:A. Definitely a character I don't see on Sakurai's radar, especially for DLC.

Okay on a more serious note, maybe I could have given more than a flat zero if it wasn't for the current number of Fire Emblem characters in Smash Bros. especially with Roy apparently on the way, but at this point I don't see myself giving more than a flat zero in want to any potential FE newcomer. Anna herself I think isn't playable material, and Marth's already the series mascot so having a character put in just for being recurring seems useless for me. The series itself also doesn't make me want to see it getting anyone else considering its always-changing cast and the nature of the characters who generally lack actual star power on their own and usually don't stand out much as Smash material; at this point any more Fire Emblem character I think should be added as Assist Trophy at best, you know, the area where Fire Emblem is actually lacking...

For those of you who don't follow Fire Emblem much, Anna is a legacy character, who manages to show up in every single Fire Emblem game except for the second one. Her latest appearance in Awakening both puts her in a playable role for the first time as well as handwaves how there are so many Annas (it involves the space-time-crossing Outrealm and a whole lot of identical sisters).

She's a popular character amongst Fire Emblem fans (to the point where they refer to her as the "RNG Goddess"!), and potentially enough to secure a place in Smash. Her base class in Awakening is the Trickster, a highly skilled thief able to wield both swords and magic staves. Combine that with her sisters' roles as merchants and appearing in damn near every game in the series, and you have the potential for a really interesting moveset that uses weapons from throughout the series' history. No other character than Anna could get away with being such a walking homage to Fire Emblem's past and present. And as we know, Sakurai is a well known Fire Emblem fan who could give the series--and Anna--preferential treatment when it came to DLC picks.

...Unfortunately, all of that is marred by extenuating circumstances. With four Fire Emblem characters already on the roster, support for most Fire Emblem characters has dwindled to niche status. What support remains is mostly laid back, and split between Anna, Tiki, Micaiah, and a few other characters. Meanwhile, there's the elephant in the room...or should I say, the Young Lion in the room. With Roy (whose support is, ironically, mostly from outside the Fire Emblem fandom) a serious possibility, there's even less desire now for Fire Emblem DLC...and as we've seen already tonight, even outright hostility toward any candidate that isn't Roy!

It isn't fair. Not in the slightest. But in this case, it puts a huge damper on any chance the Secret Seller would have.

I've actually warmed up to the idea over time. Around a year ago, Anna felt like direct competition for Robin in the eyes of...someone who was admittedly too defensive. Once Robin was confirmed and DLC talk began, I started getting interested in the idea of a legacy character who could bring a legacy arsenal with her. Perhaps a bit too generous concerning this character and Fire Emblem. One thing that stands out from her among the rest is that she is a reoccurring character, which is rare for a series where the main characters are mostly one-offs. However, Anna is not a major Fire Emblem character and her support is small and limited.
In terms of ballot support, most of the FE support is going to veteran Roy. After that, I think Chrom is receiving some support at least. And after that... I think FE support is going to other lords and I believe Tharja in Japan...
Overall, I think Anna has a lot to compete with before considering her as a character. Even then, if we get Roy, reception could be negative as there is now a complaint of "too many Fire Emblem characters."

Fire Emblem is only behind Mario in terms of the number of characters it got, and as much as it seems Sakurai loves the series to death, I think he'll show restraint. Hopefully in the next game.

While Sakurai apparently loves FE, Anna unfortunately only has a few, minor things that set her apart from the rest of the 1700+ characters in the franchise.
She's been in nearly all the games in some form, but those have always been minor appearances (shop keeper, tutorial guide, etc.), with the exception of Awakening, where she was playable. Her playable-ness in Awakening was still relatively minor, though, as she had no bearing on the plot (aside from possibly being Morgan's other parent, and even then that's a role everyone in that game had) and both of her chapters were skipable in their entirety. She also handled the DLC, but that's no better than her previous appearances. Attendance-wise, she's almost always been present, but also never highly important. Overall I'd rule against her on this front. -5%
Also, her uniqueness as a fighter in Smash is something that should be addressed. She's a trickster, so she can wield staves and swords, but that gives very little over any other FE swordfighter. However, her overall irrelevancy to the plot of Awakening could turn out in her favor here. It's likely that Sakurai would be more willing to take liberties with a minor character, and if we take into account all of her potential reclasses, she could also use Bows, Magic, Lances, and a mount. That'd throw mid to long ranged attacks into the mix, as well as decent mobility, which would make her stand out besides the fighters in Smash. As I'm unsure how likely Sakurai would be to make that change, this would only garner a +2%.
She seems to be moderately requested, but not as heavily as many others. No % chance.
Another thing to take into account is the presence FE already has in Smash's roster. It's going to soon be reaching 5, and if Sakurai would be adding a 6th, I couldn't possibly see it being someone who isn't a protagonist. -6.9%

Here's my rating of Anna from the old RTC. Not much seems to have changed since then.

I've never really done a detailed description for a character before, but I find it necessary this time around.

Now some of you may be wondering: Didn't I give N and Style Savy higher chances than this? Yes I did. I feel this is justifiable on one aspect alone:

Anna's a minor character.

Wait, that's it? Every character we have gotten before has been a major character within their series. Even N and Style Savy are major characters in their series. The only arguable character is Falco, but Star Fox ha hardly any characters when compared to Fire Emblem.. Heck, Anna wasn't even playable until Awakening, and even there Anna was OPTIONAL. Sure, she is iconic, to a FE fan that is. If I were to show a picture of Anna to my casual friend who beat FEA almost a year ago, I doubt he would remember the shopkeeper's face. Yet if I showed a picture of Chrom instead, he would instantly recognize him. If we were to judge Anna solely on her role in FEA (arguably the only game that matters in SSb4 speculation) we might as well be rating Henry like Glacicott suggested yesterday. In many ways adding Anna is like adding Ratatta from Pokémon. Are they both iconic to fans of the series? Sure. Are they in nearly every game? Yep. Are they viable in smash? Not really...

Chance - 23%: Fire Emblem's spunky redheaded merchant remains as one of the couple of character who still retains traction among a cluttered series, just about circumventing at the top of recent character demand. At this time, Roy and Tiki seem to be the only two others who are equally justifiable to get in over one another, with premature Kamui support being something to watch out for.

Anna is the designated legacy character of Fire Emblem, meaning that her purpose is to recur along just about every game in the series. She's famous for being the shopkeeper and being a tutorial character in some roles. Awakening was her zenith, however. Having her first playable appearance, being all over the place in the Outrealm, having a couple instances to recruit her through paralogues, and a hilariously-OP stage boss in the Apotheosis DLC. Who knows what could be in store for her in Fire Emblem: If. As you can see, she certainly has been recognized as the fandon-favored darkhorse.

However, her investments of importance cease to reap in comparison to the rest of the Fire Emblem cast we've had so far in Smash. Anna has never played a major role in any game she has been featured in. As if FE characters already tapper in the star power department. She would be only so recognizable to those who played Awakening, dedicated FE fans, or the speculators who found out about her bounding ball of potential.

Not to mention, the overall demand for FE characters is overwhelming low, with some backlash received due to the series perceived self-importance compared to the likes of Mario, Pokémon, even the Legend of Zelda. 5 characters is seen as overepresentation or redundancy to many when there are many notable franchises being neglected for a healthily-stocked, if niche one. This isn't helped by the fact that Roy is apparently on the way, who has enough demand going for him and veteran status to make him easier to hype up and recant dev costs. So much for uniqueness.

Unfortunately, things aren't looking too good for her ballot placement either, as Roy is the series frontrunner and the rest of them are caught in a civil war. I barely even saw Anna make any Top 20s, but she hangs around the upper edge of the dregs after that dreaded number. So there's certainly enough kindling in her hearth. Except it won't compensate for the smouldering embers with what we have left unless a surge of support comes in.

Want - 80%: I already detest how Sakurai and Nintendo's distributors have been handling the DLC characters specifically. Now that Roy's basically guaranteed to happen, it looks like Semi-Clone #2 AKA Alt Marth #3 is going to send off FE cast picks for the rest of Smash 4's post-launch content! Frankly, I'm satisfied with that series cast, especially Robin. So there's much more series who could use a boost up.

I wouldn't be supporting Anna just because of the role she plays to her series if her moveset potential wasn't just as interesting! In fact, if we're to go by her Awakening class of Trickster alone, you shouldn't run into too much problems nuancing her swordplay with acrobatics, cunning maneuvers, theivry, etc. She can use the Teleport staff as her recovery, as passive by the Trickster class. To reflect her shopkeeper roles, maybe she could have a move where she bags bags of bullion and can even pocket other items and enemy projectiles to build the bulk of it, only unleashing the effects when destroyed. Her Levin Sword doesn't look very appealing now that Robin's got it as a main weapon. Yet no one says how we can't have all these swordsmen or even two versions of the Falchion! Why not add some flavor around the Levin Sword that robin wouldn't do? Like, she could cast lightning strikes from the sky after a charge of the move, if you want to get animation literal. Maybe she would use it only in instances of subduing opponents due to her trickster nature, making it serve as a powerful stunner or finisher. Hell, take some creative liberties with her Abilities from Awakening. For example, have Lucky Seven be a passive that gives her a powerful dodge manuevr that builds to 7 every time she hits and enemy. Or have 7 different blade motions she can store up within 7 uses or even a stock to throw out for one use upon encountering certain situations.

Many people see Anna as being the ultimate Fire Emblem utilitarian due to her shopkeeper status. This could also be a route to take with her, except it might end up looking more like an inconsistent hodgepdoge of ideas from one game series than being true to her character. Just take a few things out to reference for custom moves or something. Like, have her mount a pegasus as a recovery if you want. Maybe even give her a lance attack or use a bow for something.
