I doubt we'll have time for teams because webster and odiez don't get there until about noon, and we only have until 6.

Ganon does not count as low tier, sorry.
ganon is ****ing low tier. get over it, tiers do exist.

They exsist, but its up to the guy or guys running the tournament wether they actually matter or not. If they guy running it says no they dont, well then hey guess what, they dont...Of course thats only assuming you actually participate in the tournament, not saying you are.

In this tournament, it's already been stated it matters because low tier gets a bonus. Ganon however is not low tier... ignore undefined he just wants to start crap in as many threads as he can... He's not coming anyway...

Apparently they're already expecting between 20-30 people.

Bring as many as you want! :-D Just don't beat me cuz I want mah money!

Edit: If I win I'm sure I'll end up giving second some extra again... Wonder how many will do the same :-P

We really dont have a confirmed head count, simple because so many peole havent actually confirmed they were gonna make it and how many peole they were bringing with them, Ive been trying to keep up with how many people said that they can make it, but its just a guess so far...a little over 30 atm.

remember teams is sunday
Ah..this is actually good news for me. Also, out of curiosity, when it says "An EXTRA $25 cash bonus to 1st place - regardless of how many participants enter this tournament...IF YOU WIN WITH A LOW - TIER CHARACTER" does that mean the winner has to play low tier all tourney or just for the finals? lol I'd love to play some of the better players' low tier characters.

You'll have to ask Webster on that one, Im pretty sure its the whole tournament...but its really not specified on the advertisement.

Alberto, are you planning on attending Saturday or Sunday?
Possibly both. Depends on the weather and what people are doing those days.

EDIT: We should get some practice in before then if possible. Always a pleasure getting pwned by your fox.

hmmm let me see how far this is from me.

EDIT It's 6 hours away from me. But I didn't realize the date. I really can't do anything april or first two weeks in may because of school. I'm willing to travel during later part of may, june, july. I want to go to st louis. 3 hrs. Fc7 is the only tourney I know that's going on during the summer.

You're looking at a minimum of 7 hours, Kami.

Webster,

Can we negotiate the pot split %ages? I feel that the additional %age discrepencies between each ranking is extremely discouraging to people who don't expect to place any higher than third.

Tapion and Rick (undefined) both agree that the current prize split is too uneven, although we might not exactly have the same recommendation on HOW to split the pot up.

The typical pot split is 60/30/10, which often ensures that 3rd place gets their entry fee back (10 people playing at $10 a-piece, as a guideline). HOWEVER, in the case of bonus cash, I believe the pot needs to be shared even more evenly than that.

MINUMUM Cash outflow for this tournament:
$2 (automatic deduction, not added to the jackpot)
$8 (entry fee)
$5 gas money
----
$15 MINIMUM just to attend and play at the tournament, not including people's need to feed themselves a meal.

Realistically, you're looking at $15 to 25.

As far as profit's concerned:
At n = 15 participants, c = $8, Total = $120
1st = $90, 2nd = $24, 3rd = $6
(This isn't counting the +$25 bonus for having 15 people)

At n = 20 participants, c = $8, Total = 160
1st = $120, 2nd = $32, 3rd = $8
(This isn't counting the +$25 bonus for having 20 people)

As you can see, that's not much of an incentive for others to attend this tournament ... especially with Tapion, myself, and Cap'n Awesome all planning on attending.

My recommendation is to reduce the 1st place % win, and split the pot 40/30/20/10 (paying all the way to 4th place)

At n = 15 participants, c = $8, Total = $120
1st = $48, 2nd = $36, 3rd = $24, 4th = $12
And 1st would be $73 after you add in the +$25 bonus cash.
That's still a huge margin above 2nd place.

Furthermore, in comparisen to n = 15, c = $8, at the standard 60% for first place,
first place comes to $72. Just about perfect, no?

Net Gain (subtract minimum cash outflow)
1st = $58, 2nd = $21, 3rd = $9, 4th = -$3

If participants feel they can at least pay off their entry + door fee, they'll be more inclined to participate in a tournament they have to travel an hour or so to get to.

Please consider it, Webster.

I believe webster himself is offering housing, but you'll have to get in touch with him...as for pot split, this was decided over 2 months ago and we had go through all this with Odie himself in advance, I highly doubt we could change it now even if we wanted too.

Webster would have to do so and talk with odie before doing, is the situation most of you are not aware of...we pretty much have run EVERYTHING by Odie, the guy thats letting us use his place, if we were to make any changes to the tournament...now only 2 days away. Im not in charge of this one, so I cant do it...but I do talk to odie.

That being said I just got done talking to him, un-beknown to the rest of you, hes actually dont some re-cronstruction to his place so now theres more room (not for smash bros mind you, he could really care less), but hes been really busy cleaning up all the wood and stuff hes had to tear down from his store to get ready for saturday, this brings me to sunday...Odiez saying that teams on sunday was not talked over with him and of course, hes not planning on keeping the store open all day sunday. On Sunday he wont let us stay past 3 or 4 pm, because he has other stuff to do. So im not even sure right now if teams on sunday are gonna be a possibility, even based on attendance, we would have to finish teams in 3 or 4 hours.

Two things:

1) I agree with Jazzness. Pot splits at Smash tournaments are absurd. Top 2 getting almost all of the money makes it so basically no one else has a chance to even make their money back. I see way more appeal to the majority of players if more people have a chance to win money. If you want higher attendance, paying more people is the way to go. I think setting the % beforehand is a mistake, because you should be paying more people depending on how many people show up. In my opinion, approximately 15-20% of the people in the tournament should be getting paid out, with the last guy just getting his money back.

2) I can't make it. I really wanted to, but another obligation came up because of poor planning on other people's parts. I hate people.

I already plan on making pot splits based on a turn-out for all future tournaments ran by myself, decisions will be based on a majority vote (and Odie) by the people that actually show up. To be perfectly honest, theres no set way to determine pay outs, at least not when dealing with you guys  ...so this way seems the easiest and most fair.

60/30/10 minus entree fee/entree fee is the general agreed upon number. Often 4th places entree fee is gotten rid of, but to have 1/5 of the smashers get their money back will bring less competition. The reason big smashers go is for big money which in itself leads to big competition. If you think Forward would have come from Arizona to play in SMYM while 25 smashers got money back... well it wouldn't have happened.

That sucks. Sorry we won't see you there.

Edit: As for the distribution of money... I don't see why Odie would even care who the money was distributed, it's not like first place giving second or third any more money is gonna come out of his pocket. Don't worry jazzy, we'll work something out after the fact.

Odie in fact doesnt care how the money is divided up, but it has to be decided before the tournament actually starts and we have to run it by him regardless of the decision, I've talked to him pretty much every weekend leading up to this, even though im not running this tournament...webster, at least from what odie has said, hasnt contacted him at all since who knows when...so its websters decision if he wants to change it or not and get in contact with Odie sometime tomorrow...by which I mean today.

Yea, 6 people was pretty bottom tier...
It was still good to play everyone again. Everyone's gotten so much better. I still had fun.
Shoutouts (to everyone):

Tapion: Grats on the low tier win. I can't believe how I lost that bowser match:( . O well, that's what I do. Those friendlies were very fun. As usual, thanks for all the tips. They obviously help out a ton.:)

Shiek: Your shiek has gotten a lot better again. You've got some good combos with her. You just need to mix up your techs a lot more (you always tech left), and please, stay away from the zelda :chuckle:

Andrew: Good to play you again. You played well against me, I got grabbed a lot. I guess it just wasn't your day overall.

Rob: You've got a pretty good fox going. You just need better tech skill. Lots and lots and lots of tech. Your shine spikes kept you in every match.

Webster: Thanks for running the tourney, even though only 6 people showed up... It was good to play you again, you just need to stick to a character. You kind of counterpicked yourself against me (fox > falcon and peach).

That's everyone. Hopefully more than 6 people show up next time!

I practice when I can and more importantly when I remember too, im sure if I played everyday I would be alot better than now, but with Brawl looming on the horizon I just dont have the motivation to even try at SSBM most of the time.

I guess teching left is just a bad habit from always being on the right side of the map, oh well...I only switch to Zelda to either recover or spam fari/bair...doesnt work too good on Fox though >_>

EDIT: Before I gforget, I should have a solid date for the May tournament up tomorrow, it will no longer be May 12th as noted, since Ill be attending ACEN as will webster...and having odie by himself running a trounement isnt the greatest idea.

6 people? That's too bad, considering this has been advertised since February. I had 6 people at the absolutely non-advertised smashfest at my house just last Thursday.

What did the payouts end up being?

I freakin can't believe how many people didn't show up to this tournament. That really pissed me off, but you know what I had fun anyways:

shout outs:

Tapion: Good times as usual! Buffet is a tradition. And Paul's was fun too. Making my friend quit smash was pretty funny...LOL! I'll hit the bill next time we go to the buffet. Sorry about not playing our match in Smash, I kinda just had enough when it came down too it. Smash sometimes doesn't make ANY sense! But you're the coolest friend EVA, believe it...LOL!

Sheik: Thanks for helpin me out. You are the better smasher than I. But our matches are always fun (well until I realize how stupid the game is...LOL). It was interesting seeing you play WWE...that game looked hella random...LOL! And awesome job in the Naruto teams tournament. You and Brandon made me switch from 2 vs. 1! I think you should play more Naruto. I need a strong 4th best in the state.

Andrew: Good Matches in Smash! I'm glad you enjoyed both Naruto Games. Teams is fun huh? I hope you guys decide to buy it eventually!

Rob: You better buy Naruto or else! Good matches in Smash, Fox is ****ing stupid...LOL!

Matt: Fox is ****ing stupid...LOL! You're the best! It's really awesome to kick it with yha. I'm glad I actually got to talk to yha that time. GG's in Smash. I see you practice what you preach. You have my respect!

Vids will be up soon, the way Bowser won must be seen...LOL...LMAO... !

But on a direct note. i think I'm good running Smash tournaments until Brawl comes out. But I'm sure Sheik will be running Melee until then! Thanks everyone for all your support. I look forward to this summer.

I don't look forward into getting darker then what I already am though...LOL!
