Hey, I'm new to these forums. Long time Smash player but never really bothered to look for a QLD scene cause I assumed it was just really small lol. I'm very interested in coming along to this event =)
What's the latest news/details on this event?
If I do manage to come I'll be bringing around 9 other people with me who also play smash.

Hey hotdog, welcome to the forums =)

Vyse is the main organiser of the smash tourney coming up, and he is releasing progress reprrts that can be found in the title of the thread. But as of yet, it should be held in the Helensvale community center I think - but yeah, if you want we can add your details to the front

We are just organising meets and things in the lead-up to the tourney, you should come join us ^^

Welcome to you also grav1sh hehe =D

There is a general aussie wi-fi friend code thread around, but a lot of people will have their brawl friend code in their description somewhere if they play online.(But i don't recall a qld specific brawl friend code one)

However, some of us (me included) don't/can't play wifi cause of the lag =/
Oh and also, the tv/wii would be really appreciated, however for the gc controller, you generally only need to bring your own controller since pretty much everyone brings there own =)

Yeah I've only been playing wifi for about 2 weeks now, and the lag is very noticeable even when vsing my friend who lives 15 minutes away :S. I play wifi for the variety of play style, unlike the variety of the perfect shield spam of a lvl 9 cpu

Spot Dodge Down Smash ... town.
-Kas / Sirias here:-

Lol, nice conversation going on with all you guys. d:

It might be a good idea to actually bring another controller (for some people) in the case that some people forget theirs or something happens to theirs or something, you know?
Doubtful... but I don't have a controller. d: That's why I'm asking.
Oh no wait I do, but sometimes it screws up. Oh well.

As for the FC thing. I think that it's better just to organise meets so everyone can play offline (Without lag). Plus it's better to get more interactive with everyone, a stranger is just a friend waiting to be found.
OLOL! OR A RAEP AROUND THE CORNER! OLOL!!OL!O!L!!OL
... Anyway.

9 other people would be good, too. I didn't expect someone to know that many people who play...
But I can only imagine they aren't hardcore smashers.

I HAVE TO SAY...
I'm fairly pleased with how well I played. d:
I wouldn't know how good you guys get when you're serious, but those friendlies were good enough to make me not think I totally suck.
I do suck, but just not totally. It's only luck that I won half of my games anyway.

Anthony, should we bother with calling the STD at Kustom's place a tournament? Why not just keep it as a bi-weekly. Or something along those lines.
Nothing drastic, though I'm guessing that's what you were aiming for?

Oh, and, I learned a few new tricks! Yay. I'm so kool now.
I better stop playing Brawl - so much. I think once every 2 weeks it enough for me.

@Sirias: I've come to the conclusion that you are a genius when it comes to smash. I don't want to pull the 'I was tired' john, because you were even giving Chris a run for his money while you weren't spazzing out there lol.

@Thread & Newcomers: Wow, you guys rock! Welcome, welcome, welcome! Looks like the expected amount of players just EXPLODED, lol. This really will be a huge turnout.

This post will serve as another progress report, but first I have to update the front page.
Wow, this is going to be an epic turnout : 3

The Golden Era of Melee may have seen the last of its days, but Brawl will bring a new age of smash.

------

~ Progress Report IV ~

Not too much to say this time I don't think. All I can say is wow 0.0

A hearty welcome to grav1sh, Hardhate and Hotdog <3
My name's Anthony, I'm the Queensland Tournament Organizer and resident Diddy Kong n00b : ] It's nice to meet you all.

Am I to understand that grav1sh and Hardhate both know each other already? because that's the impression I'm getting lol.

I need to know (reasonably) exact numbers so I can determine whether or not that later down the track I'll have to upsize the venue. So if Hardhate could please give me a rough number, that'd be great.

Also, Hotdog, I've simply put down your friends as 'Hotdog's friends' so I need to know if they decide to register here and post in this thread that they are coming, so I don't accidentally double up on numbers lol.

Even though I told Maree that I'd be inspecting the venue tommorow, I'll have to delay that to tuesday because of work circumstances -_-

@CAOTIC: I'd say it'd be smart to look at booking a hotel room. Of course, you're the resident expert when it comes to looking for the best deals lol. I'll still do what I can to help in that department. If we can find a suitable 'hostel' type place for people to stay, people who live far away could even make the trip the day before and stay on the Gold Coast.

My most immediate plans for now are to make up some advertising materials for the tournament. I'd imagine strategically placing a few A4 posters around the place could draw in a few more people.

Also, I have Sunday off (I assume I'll have it off that weekend lol) for the tournament weekend. So perhaps we could organize a group outing to Dreamworld (Or Seaworld if Ammeren/Amaterasu twists my arm enough). I haven't been there in years, so it could be fun.

For now, I need feedback on a couple of things.

~ Pricing
What do you guys think about the current pricing? My opinion of it will change as the expected number of people coming changes.

~ Final Event Time Slot
Should we do Melee Doubles or Crews?

Hmm. I guess that's it for now.

I'm very pleased with the current progression of things, and the tournament is still a couple of months away!

I've informed a few of my friends who are average to intermediate players, and potentially 3 of them should be coming and possibly 5 excluding Hardhate.

The pricing i think is fine, a max of $20 excluding food. I also just realised that one of my controls C-stick doesn't work so if i did bring it, it wouldn't really be worth it unless its for sabotage :p

Posters is good idea, especially at places like X-zone at Australia fair and Helensvale Station.

HAHAHA, I was thinking that today as I walked past X-zone at Aussie Fair.
I live in Helensvale, right next to the High School.

I think Hardhate was just joking about the C-stick.
Or was he?

I don't care if you even bought along your wiimotes. Whatever you need.

I highly reccomend everybody mark their controllers and equipment.
That also goes for powerboards and extension cables.
Of which we're going to need a crap load lol.

EDIT: Also, I'm going to have to buy a safe for valuables + money.
I think I can get one for $30

I would like to come. I've played smash a few times with friends, and will probably play it a few more times over the coming months. More just appearing to see what good smash looks like. Unfortunately, my timetable at that time is unknown, so I can't really guarantee appearing until a few weeks beforehand.

I live on the GC btw, close to Aus Fair.

Holy crap.

So many new people, AWESOME HI TO ALL NEW PEOPLE!

@ Anthony, this is shaping up to be best tourny ever.

EDIT: For this tourny, I advise anyone who can to bring their DS. And if you play pokemon diamond or pearl, bring that too as Im one of the best in the country.

As for smash, 50 people is heaps, so everyone I implore you to please be behaved and make it an awesome day. Im not saying anyone wont, but we all have a tendancy to wander off with the fairies now and again.

CAO: HOTEL ROOM FTW, surfers paradise pubcrawl ammirite?

@Vyse: Im free this weekend (2nd/3rd) and need desperatly to get some more practice under my belt. STD?

@Scrubs, Will you be driving down for the tourny? If so, would you possibly be able to pick me and my TV up? seeing as I dont REALLY want to be taking it on a train.....

@Grnstrt. My grandparents live in wombat, so if im ever in the neighbourhood, ill drop you a line.

@ everyone: Im going to (hopefully) be organising some *lame* ward Tshirts/poloshirts for lolz and unity. Currently Im going to be doing up some ward ones, but if anyone is interested, I can do other things as well. Smash related, ofcourse. So if you want to PM me or anything feel free. My MSN is Nightjar05@hotmail.com if that makes it any easier for anyone.

Also, I will be doing the BBQ along with my mum(lol). If anyone wants to help, that would be fantastic. I cant give pricing atm as I have not investigated fully what it will work out to be, hopefully not much.

For anyone coming from brisbane who needs trains. Catch a GC express from the city/southbank. or an all stations train from anywhere else to beenliegh and change over. Again, contact me if you need to know more.

END RANT.

Thanks Vyse, I'll look into a hostel for budding Smashers to crash at. It would be nice to keep activites Gold Coast only, after all that's what I always wanted, rite? Tourney hype looks promising, exactly the shot in the arm QLD needed

I think we should stick to Melee Teams unless there is enough of a contingency from other states. If there's about 6+ OOS'ers you could just lump them into their own crew like I've always done lol

Hey, I'm one of Hotdog's friends, I'm not all that good, but I'm in. Even if I don't pose any challenge, it will be good to finally see some QLD smashers (I wasn't even aware there was a scene at all).

Welcome to the party Muerte.
I'll add you to the front page.

Remember, we're open to all skill levels. The best way to learn in this game is to dive into the deep end, and ask as many questions as possible.

And yes, the QLD scene has long been established since 2005/6

Olol. Practice. d: I remember when I used to do that in Melee...
I did it at Brawl too while at Nick's. Gotta say, just not the same. d:

Muerte? That's sexy. o: Spanish words are always sexy. European, on that matter.

So many people, lol.
Why is Brawl so much more popular.
MAKES ME SAD.
I'M SO TIRED. ARGH!!!

Who should I main?
I'm guessing not Lucario because so many people seem to be playing him.
Marth, maybe, he's sorta too ghey for me, though.
Wolf, depending on how many people play him? So far I know of 2. Cao and Azure.
Pit maybe. Iono anyone else that plays Pit.
Fox?? No one plays Fox! I might main him, although I don't really like Brawl Foxxie. </3
Toon Link? Ben dropped him, maybe I'll take him up.
Dedede, Falco, Peach, Metakni-no...
Iono.

To all Non battle hardened competitors (noobs).

Im not the best smasher, I was ok in melee and decent in brawl. Good at what I do, but thats about it (although I try my best) so this rant might not seem to have anything backing it, but I can assure you many of the top players have the same strategies, they just pull them off better.

Training Tips: By Yokai.

CPUs: Are the absolute worst thing to test your skill on, I recommend not even playing against them as you will inevitably pick up bad habits. These include but are not restricted to
* Picking up CPU behavioral patters.
This entails that you pick up certain characters behavioral traits that the CPUs will almost always do, which is fine, you can beat the computer, but be warned real players do not do the same thing twice, unless it worked the first time, and even then they might put a spin on it.

*Mindgames:
In brawl as it has been since the 64 days, there are deliberate mindgames. They entail outpredicting your opponent in such ways as knowing where and when they will dodge roll and the like. CPUs do not have mindgames, so you will never improve any by versing them.

Training mode: Is god. Training mode allows you to practice all your moves, become fluid and adept at stringing together moves, and with some of the characters perform basic combos and think about possible scenarios.

You all seem to have friends, mates, ect that play smash. USE THIS. Playing against another person, no matter if your getting beaten by 3 stock everytime, will help you improve and start to read the game better.

If you feel you hit a wall with your skills, sometimes it helps people to watch youtube vids of adept smashers playing, taking mental notes on what works and when. I personally find this very helpful, and most character guides do indeed include links to adept brawlers showing what they can do.

If you loose your mind you loose the game: In all honesty, when you start to get angry, you start to loose by more. This is because you fail to think properly on the game, rage takes over (im looking at you Seig).

I dont know if this is helpful, or if anyone will actually find it useful, but I just wanted to help all the people who havent been around the boards as long as some.

EDIT: IM FREE THIS WEEKEND 2nd/3rd if anyone wants me to come down to the coast for some smashin.

@grav1sh: Come to regular meets! That's the absolute BEST way to get better. Come play against Amaterasu, it is sure to teach you something.

First, click this link:
http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=170223

This is the main QLD smash thread for the time being. We are always organizing meets on the weekends, so if you guys are willing to host something on the weekend (I still want to know about this 'command centre' lol) we'd all be willing to come out for brawl practice.

---

Tommorow I inspect the premises for the tournament. I may take a few photos to post up as well.

Edit:
@Yokai: Well put.

Edit2:
Here I am trying to organize a tournament and I'm spending half an hour now talking to Sieg about V8's lol
