I didn't know actively going to tourneys in all 3 states made you qualified. I mean, Chaos Marth takes all of the data and sits down with other panelists with it. He has been pretty dedicated with it too. Sorta mean to cut him off. Bleh.

Data isn't enough for a list like this to be accurate. I thought I made myself clear. Since ChaosMarth almost never sees the other states play, his skill opinions for NJ, and especially PA, are unlikely to be accurate.

Example case: Doom vs Chibo

Doom beat Fatal, Chibo beat Lain. Chibo beat Candy, Doom beat Dabuz. Etc.

How can you possibly weigh those wins between players in different states against different people besides opinions? It takes accurate skill opinions to determine who should be ranked higher between Doom and Chibo based on the last few months. They have comparable wins and losses overall.

Again, it takes accurate skill opinions to be able to determine the weights of wins and losses. No system is truly objective unless it's a point-based system based on placings and stuff like MLG. It's going to be very subjective, plain and simple, and no amount of data can allow ChaosMarth to accurately form an opinion. He'll have to play Doom and Chibo and watch them play to figure that out.

The regional Melee lists weren't data-driven, and they came out accurate beyond Cactuar being an idiot once.

Edit: Sesshomaru010101 2:17 pm
(2:17:29 PM): what is worth more, beating fatal or beating lain?
Vinnie 2:17 pm
(2:17:36 PM): a few months ago
(2:17:37 PM): beating lain
(2:17:44 PM): but lain loses to everyone and their mothers now
(2:17:50 PM): fatal is inconsistent though... hmm
Sesshomaru010101 2:17 pm
(2:17:52 PM): ah, another thing
(2:17:53 PM): timing of wins
(2:17:55 PM): consistency...
(2:18:04 PM): that's all stuff only an active player would notice
(2:18:24 PM): doom and nairo beat fatal the same day he was so ****ty he lost o MIB in a set, including a game to his ness.
Sesshomaru010101 2:18 pm
(2:18:49 PM): i beat keitaro the same day he beat shadow twice and xzax the same day he beat dmbrandon
(2:18:55 PM): my keitaro win > his fatal win
(2:18:58 PM): if analyzed properly
(2:19:04 PM): players arent numbers
(2:19:06 PM): plain and simple
(2:19:10 PM): they are people
(2:19:16 PM): with varying consistencies
Vinnie 2:19 pm
(2:19:26 PM): right
(2:19:29 PM): i agree with that
Sesshomaru010101 2:19 pm
(2:19:32 PM): if you beat m2k when he's sick and sneezing and losing friendlies to like smurf's MK
(2:19:34 PM): who cares?
(2:19:43 PM): under doom's bull**** system, it's the same as taking him out
(2:19:46 PM): after he beats adhd and ally
Vinnie 2:19 pm
(2:19:57 PM): :-(
(2:20:05 PM): I guess you're right lol

I hope I made myself clear by now.

Keep it to 2 panelists max imo per state, we don't need more than that.

PA: Chibo, Vex
NJ: Inui, Keitaro
NY: Anti, ?

Don't know who else to pick from NY because so many of their players are inactive or don't go on the boards much. Shadow? Vinnie?
I probably wouldn't go with Vex, in our discussions he was by far the most inactive person thanks to Monster Hunter lol. Smurf wouldn't be a bad choice. From our discussions I would have nominated Keitaro as the other one, but he's not from PA lol

I would say Strife would be a good panelist from NY

Vex has accurate skill opinions. If he's not active enough, then go with someone else. Smurf doesn't seem that active either, at least when it comes to playing in NJ or NY.

I would say Strife would be a good panelist from NY
God no. Anti, Vinnie, and Shadow please. Two of those three.

When has Anti entered singles... anywhere? Esp in PA lol
Anti's been to PA once and his mom took him home lol

I'm all for Shadow bein an NY panelist

what if we just did one per state, esp then cause then theres no chance in voting ties.

There's no need for it to be huge and drawn out. Just have each state have their PR be up to date (so we do these rankings from the date of PA and NJ's update and have NY remake their list to be current), then it's just deciding who goes where. There's a LOT less to discuss. For instance, we know on the list that Squall is above me, so if I'm ranked somewhere, then Squall is higher or if Squall is on the list, then I can't be below him, etc.

many reasons

3 states = 3 times the amount of useless arguments that bring about frustration

one of the states is signinficantly inferior to the other 2 which can lead to people from the state on the list feeling suckish becuz they will be ranked like 11th when they really are 1st in their state. theyll try to argue it and itll be a waste of time. many people like myself HATE wasting time.

also if inui isnt in the panel, theyll be an argument BEFORE the rankings are even made.

**** that. its fine the way it is.

If we're inferior then the list will reflect that. WHo the **** cares. But you would be crazy to say/think that some of our top players didn't put some **** work in this past season

If the past season's rankings are to be used to create the tristate one, I disagree with this existing since NJ's list is too far from what is correct in terms of skill. It would be a second embarrassment.

I do not wish to attach my name to something so embarrassing, so consider me out if we're using the past season's rankings. Sorry.

I wanted it to be brand new, separate from state rankings, and start at MLG weekend or around then.

Chibo wants it to be just a meshing together of state rankings, which means the opinions of people like Doom and Alex Strife, who I view as unfit to be panelists, would be what's really making the rankings.

I can't support that.

I agree that it should be brand new so that past rankings don't have an effect on what's considered. It should def start at MLG Columbus

Yeah Inui, its regarding wins and losses, not who you think is better than who.

Its always been like that for years now in the tristate.

If you don't plan on going by that then I don't think you should be on the panel anymore cause you'll just argue for people to be in front of people that don't deserve it.

Noob. Of course wins and losses matter. I just don't think players are numbers. I thought I made that clear.

And the past season's ranks = joke. They're too far off from skill. Let a new season start so that it could look less dumb.

why is that...just curious
You don't enter tournaments enough. You don't play the good players to know what's up with them and you're not a high level player so just watching won't show you enough since you won't know everything that's going on.

I'm not trying to argue here, so I hope you don't take it personally. I believe a panelist should be able to form accurate skill opinions, and typically only higher level players can do that.

I'll leave it as I know what a ranking should be like ( too lazy to explain ) but its your opinion so I was curious as to your reasons.

edit2: should upstate really be included? NYC/LI, NJ, and PA are all in one little family, upstate just has an entirely different metagame imo, they all have locals which our players rarely go to, and they rarely come down here. IDK, it's just hard to weight something like, how would Cura compare to Minty, etc. Cura does win all the tourneys up there, but doesn't travel down here...
I like the idea of making a collaboration while still maintaining and keeping individual state PRs.

And i do personally think Upstate should be included. However do to the lack of traveling in Upstate its understandable that any of us don't earn a spot on placings, But i don't think we should be restricted from be able to either. However we dont have to many outstanding players. Though i feel Myself Pikapika Snakeee and San. Can earn a spot on the rankings.

Though our players dont travel much if not at all, we do place fairly well when we do.

Example.

Pikapika:

Vc7 (NJ) he got 13th
-Beat Remix
-Beat lain
-Beat Coney
-Lost to Shadow
-Lost to Minty

Nikefest (Tx) He got 5th
-Beat P4
-Beat Jerm
-Beat Carnage
-Beat castro
-Lost to Ultimate Razor
-Lost to Gnes

San
Vc7 (NJ) He got 9th
-Beat k-9
-Beat Blackanese
-Beat Boss
-Lost to Ally
-Lost to Minty

Whobo2 (tx) He won low tiers
He placed 17th in singles. Not sure on who he played exactly. I do know.
-Lost to Leemartin
-Lost to Trela

MLG orlando (FL) 33rd
- Beat ******
- Beat Lorenzom
- Beat T0mmy
- Beat Dr Grandpa
- Beat Super Wolf
- Lost to Ally
- Lost to Chu dat

Dont feel like posting other players to lazy, I do like the idea of a tri-state ranking though! Sounds like alot of fun. However i do feel if its gonna be called a tri-state ranking then it should included all of tri-state. We have eliable players. And we are starting to travel more. Some of us are going to MLG this weekend. And most of us are going to apex in august. So i guess we'll see how everyone here can properly stack up!

Good luck to everyone at mlg!

I do not think upstate NY or western PA should be included since our area almost never plays with them. It should be NYC, Long Island, southern NY in general, the entirety of NJ, eastern PA, and the Philadelphia area. We're almost like MD/VA when it comes to how often we play with each other.
This. Upstate NY is way too far separated in order to be factored in such a way. Because this includes different areas, I think they should be as close as possible when it comes to interaction and knowledge of players, because an endeavor such as this will have to be regarded with great care. We come down sometime, but by far not enough.

Honestly, the last big tourney in the region was Syracuse 2. A few people did travel there, and kinda wrecked us. Cura, san, and Pikapika I don't think would be too hard to fit in, even though their spots may be disputed. Whether traveling continues enough or not will determine how Upstate NY does with this.

But I honestly can't blame anyone for not including W&CNY. We have such a big state.

Edit: Oh, and excepting Albany, we're closer to Canada then NYC. (Not sure about Albany)
