Hello all! I'm planning on doing some serious data mining soon for Project M and the like, but I need information.

This survey doesn't get all the information I need but it definitely gets me started. It's only 10 questions long and should only take you about 10 minutes to fill it out at most, assuming you're thinking heavily about the questions.

Please do your best to answer only if you are sure of your answer.

This will be a big help to me and presumably the Project M development team as well. If you know anyone that plays Project M, send them this survey and have them answer ASAP and send it on. The more responses the better.

I completed the survey, but I found the follow-up question to #9 (Why ban this stage?) confusing because it referenced one stage while you had said to choose any number of stages for that question. Thanks for doing this, Overswarm!

Good survey but:

I don't have a best or worst stage other than what I feel is good for my main. Also, question 6 doesn't seem to actually have any numbers, just qualitative ranges.

Thanks for taking it everyone. Send it to everyone else you know, the more data the more relevant.

If I get 100 responses, I'll assume someone's trolling me :p

I'd put my vote in for either Ivysaur or ZSS (maybe even Wolf), but I don't feel experienced enough with the game (competively speaking) to actually be able to put down accurate responses. :X

Harsh. I am not a fan of it's layout and edges.
Supposed to be harsh. Also true, I like stages that make you have to evaluate your own positioning rather than just twitch reflexes and focusing solely on your opponent. It has the same layout as Battlefield, just slight modifications that make it "flow" more and enhance the importance of position. It's really a good stage and they did a good job of making it. It actually successfully implements stage control in a positive manner, unlike Battlefield which has a "who has position?!" game whenever you aren't in neutral.

Norfair will be banned if it doesn't get changed.
Platforms, especially the Top one, are way too high and the layout benefits circle camping

You guys don't even know what Circle camping is. Unless you are Sonic vs. Jigglypuff, you can't effectively circle camp on Norfair. It is literally impossible. Even with Sonic vs. Jigglypuff it isn't hopless.

Oy. Go play Temple as Fox or Sonic vs. someone and circle camp, then compare it to Norfair. You'll note that the primary difference is the use of the word "impossible".

"But I have to chase him and he can dodge my attacks..."

Stop whining! >:[ It's not always supposed to be easy!

If he's on the top platform he is in a bad position and you should be utterly destroying him. If he's on the side platform he has made it incredibly easy to be knocked off stage and edgeguarded if not outright killed.

If anyone has anything bad to say about Norfair that is actually accurate it's going to be "it's too hard to get back to the bottom area without getting destroyed; once I get knocked out of position they do a lot of damage to me".

Circle camping. Psh.

I took it. My main is link, but I am unsure to put link in A tier or B tier because I know he isn't the best due to his imperfections (still a really good character though) so I put him in B, even though I really like using him. I feel that the wario stage is a little small and the KO rate is a little high.

My two complaints end up being less of a "balanced or not", so much as it is a matter of interest. GHZ is just a tiny FD with the use of its platform, and Castle Siege is just a mediocre version of two infinitely better stages.

I also want to say Delfino Plaza, mostly on the basis that I want to see a static version of the shine sprite tower with some platforms, that'd be fun.

No fair is acceptable for doubles. Not every stage has to be singles legal.
Even though norfair was one of the stages I listed as unacceptable for tournament play, I would definitely agree to this; as i've enjoyed playing it in doubles. It's a lot easier to get grounded when you have a teammate to prevent guarding, and it's a relatively large stage. Not every stage has to be singles legal says it all. I realllllyyyyy love SSE: Jungle, but it's so campy if you are facing a projectile wielder in singles.

I had fun camping Lucas and somewhat Wario when I went to Norfair with Fox, but I ended up still losing to the Wario because when he touched me it hurt...

Not so much Lucas though.

I'd dig pictochat more if it was less... boring. Actually, replace "pictochat" with "a majority of the unedited stages in P:M" and it'd still be accurate. They're boring. Not exciting. Anti-enjoyable.

i personally feel like that transformation isnt much of an issue, as compared to horizontal infinity lines and wind

wind only pushes in one direction, and im certain that it blows harder (both metaphorically and seriously) than dreamland
horizontal infiniity lines is just a load of ass to play on

at least on the diagonal line, you can easily avoid the left ledge by either camping the top or right side at least til the transformation is lower

Oracle is referring to the phenomenon in which you are attempting to go for the ledge and suddenly cannot, as it is blocked for you. It has always been the only negative transformation in pictochat.

Same as KJ64, Norfair, Jungle, and Rumble Falls. "This is different and I don't like it, a competitive stage is the exact same as those that I've always played on."

WTF makes skyworld a bad singles stage
Being big as **** for one.

I'm sorry I didn't know you were being asked the question. This isn't Brawl, we don't have to accept terrible stages to have a stage list above 3.

By "terrible stage" you mean "different", I'm guessing? Melee's stage list is what? 5? 7 now?

Reasons people don't like KJ64:
  • Peach v Ganon
  • People went through this years ago
  • This is not a new thing
  • Stop attempting to shoehorn in arguments from times past

Stop that obstinate word stuffing.

You're a Brawl player who can't accept that his game's stage selection is mediocre at best, I'm guessing?

That's the kind of attitude you're presenting when you say crap like that. And no I don't think that of you, it's just an example of the same sentence pattern.

It's really simple.

"Do these stages result in a non-competitive environment? Do they result in randomized wins or predictable wins regardless of player?"

If the answer is no, you wanting to ban it comes down to preference. If it isn't, you'd need evidence to present it as such. Hyrule Temple? Open and shut case. Skyworld? You don't even have tournament data, you just say "too big" and leave it at that because it is just a preference. Preference has no place in stage lists.
