I was about to comment on that.
I think it looks like a lot of fun.

Other than outright improving the modes we already had (like making BtT and Classic/All-Star not **** this time around), I'd love to see more modes like this. Smash has a lot of mechanics that can be played around with in fun ways and it should be exploited to great effect.

Also, don't rule out those items. Competitive players are not used to fighting with items on. There are also a lot of new items, and it seems the Treehouse Staff often rely on their gimmicks to win. They even joke about it, but I'd love to see them fight some rounds with no items on instead of always using them.

Yeah the number of competitive players that don't know how to Z grab items (Yes it works in Smash 4, Melee, and Brawl) is rather appalling, because with enough practice, you can catch anything tossed at you and make your foe regret ever tossing anything at you.

Toph was not playing his best either way with that SD.

People become smash snobs when playing Melee, when they probably enjoy crappy rpg's and flash games without giving it a second thought.
I game to have fun, the games aren't necessarily good and I wouldn't touch them if they didn't provide cheap entertainment.
Why would anyone have fun playing what they think is an objectively bad game? If I think it's terrible, I would stop playing it after a while for good even if it was cheap entertainment because there is nothing to be gained for me. Bad analogy, but good attempt!

Enjoying the finer things (should have used the term faux-snobbery instead though, as it is obvious few people here can argue about real quality differences like smoothness or richness or whatever) is great when you can appreciate the substance as a foundation. Like say with food, just about everyone likes good food.

But what if, as I just said, you don't like the taste of alcohol, and it is then just a degree of badness without any pleasure derived from its consumption? Why would one spend more money for the same drug effect if the quality product doesn't get you any more drunk, unless the percentage is higher?

I was making a real distinction for a certain subset of people, and I don't think it's wrong to say you should be consistent about what you put in your body if your going to tell other people that the food/drink they put in theirs is total ****, as people were doing if you paid attention.

- How long were you holding the control stick to the side?
- From where did you start the Side B?
- Why are you playing with items?

Dem items.
-It varied, but never became consistent with fails/successes.
-Same, varied, but never became consistent.
-My savestate doesn't have them off. I should fix that.

Like people tried with Brawl?

Physically speaking, I prefer my women to have that bit "extra" (quotations because the media/society/bs says they have extra, I don't think they do... to me they just look like regular women) on them. More to have fun with, more places to put my hands and grab, cushion for the pushin, etc.
Warmer, more fun when spooning, and, uh, more surface area = more sensitivity to touch, so, uh, yeah.

^Glorious googly moogly, that was mortifying to type.

Just drove for the first time.

It was easy as ALL ***HOLE, like seriously if you can play Mario Kart you can drive. My instructor said most people can't get out of the parking lot while I drove in residential areas and on main roads for more than the majority of my drive. He also said we can bring CDs so I' just going to listen to French House while I drive and I'm going to enjoy doing so.

I think you missed the point, the reality is that not everyone is into alcohol for its' side-effects, or at least not wholly-so. But while I'm on the topic you DO actually gain something from the aforementioned games, as while they are not drugs, they do cause hard-fun and soft-fun responses. Hard-fun being the slow even release of dopamine to encourage learning and problem resolution, and soft-fun primarily being an adaptation to help people cope with witnessing difficult things or being forced to perform monotonous tasks. Coincidentally this releases spikes of dopamine, as it wasn't meant for long term activities, ie. Movies, flash-based do-button games, and the like. It is actually referred to as delight since it sees very little brain-activity and a fair amount of dopamine, technically it isn't actually "fun", as fun is exclusively classified as part of the learning process. That's the long-winded way of saying my analogy was more valid than you think.

I never said that though, I know I'm an exception rather than the rule.

Some of Denti's thoughts on PM.

There's been so many people criticizing PM/some aspects of the game recently. Any ideas ya'll might have on why this is the case?
Unhealthy levels of this in his body, mostly by the nervous system, because he's on EDGE, so edgy~:

Even though when I practice PM, I play about 10 to 14 hours on a busy day and 18 to 24 hours on a day with absolutely nothing to do, I'm plenty sure I'd get my ass curbstomped by anyone here if I tried to play them.

That sure as hell ain't gonna keep me from loving the game, though. I don't really have any issues with the aspects of the game even when some change because adapting to changes is all a part of playing fighting games.

That, and none of this game's aspects and it's changes are as obnoxious to deal with as BlazBlue's are sometimes, so it's not that bad at all to learn and adapt to. ¬ ¬ (Still love my BB too, though. )

Are there any good guides on how to select an arcade stick?
Wasn't really a guide but...

Vashimus said:
I still recommend getting a stick because pads eventually will break down on you. You blow through them too easily before you have to buy another one because they aren't rugged enough to take the abuse. The d-pad will stop registering directions, buttons die out, it's just a pain in the ***.

If you are gonna get a stick, then do not, I repeat DO NOT be cheap and get a cheap stick.

1) Cheap sticks always have crappy starting parts. As in parts that you'll replace when you get serious because they break too easily after extended play. Replacement buttons and joysticks will cost you about $60 (and that's even if you can even replace them on your stick. Cheap Horis and Mayflashes are notorious for this), and suddenly that cheap stick cost you more than a good stick that had quality parts right out of the box in the first place.

2) Cheap sticks have no resale value. If you buy a $150 MadCatz stick, you can sell it for at least $120 later (or a $100 stick for $100). Think of it like a $30 rental if you change your mind a few months later. That cheap stick you bought for $50? Good luck selling it. Even if you buy better parts for it, you'd still only be able to sell it for < $50. Why? Because nobody wants cheap sticks.

3) You're limiting yourself. If you buy a cheap stick, it's almost as detrimental to your performance as trying to play golf with a tree branch. Yeah, there are people who do just fine with a tree branch, but odds are you're not one of them. Incidentally, this is the same argument I make when discussing picking low tier characters. Funny how it works here. The same way you're more likely to get frustrated at the game by picking a bad character, the odds are higher that you'll end up hating playing on a stick if you get a crappy stick. You need something with Sanwa or Seimitsu parts (authentic Japanese arcade cabinet parts). Sanwa's better for starters since the buttons and stick are more sensitive.

Do not get any kind of mini stick.
Do not get any stick that cost any less than $50 when it came out (stuff like Hori EX2, MadKatz SE, Mayflash anything)

My recommendations:
  • Any MadKatz TE stick. These sticks are incredibly well made, everything's authentic, and they're easily modifiable. You can find some really good deals for them nowadays. I just went on Amazon and they're selling Soul Calibur V and SFxT sticks for $99 NEW for each platform. That is a steal.
  • Qanba and Eightarc sticks are more expensive (Qanba Q4RAF and Eightarc Fusion run you at least $170), though they are well worth the money. They're triple-modded right out the box (compatible with PS3, 360, AND PC, rather than just one or the other), which is great when playing on switching consoles constantly between tournaments for instance, and have other small touches to them (felt bottom, more hand room, heavier easier to mod than the MadCatz, etc.)
