Magnet pull just multiplies current horizontal momentum in the direction you're magnet'ing iirc. It's bad for recovery mostly, as you aren't moving very fast back towards the stage usually.

What's the point of copying Sonic if your not going to replicate the awesome momentum the trilogy had and get the slope physics right?

I can see why people don't like Freedom Planet, it's Sonic without everything that made Sonic really great.

Because they aren't trying to replicate Sonic. They are trying to replicate platformers. The game just has a very Sonic-Esq appearance. They broke away from the roots of being a Sonic fangame a long time ago in favor of a unique development.

Regardless, this still looks terrible even if it's just laziness on their part: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miSErWIVBlU
Watching a game and playing a game is completely different. Assuming the entire game is like this is just judging a book by its cover. It is just one humongous loss on your part. The game's physics are actually quite tight and not at all as crappy as that video makes it out to be. And I don't really see how you can call an indie project that has been working on a game for a year or so now lazy. Especially when the game was built on player feedback.

watching the sdcc stream makes me feel better about smash4, especially once they did those "feature" matches, so you could actually the percents. it looks like you can get kills at decent percents and the combo game seems workable. still cautiously optimistic, but not nearly as cynical now.

They didn't scrub enough of the Sonic elements from the game, or at least hide them better. It still looks like a fangame and I think that's lazy.

And honestly it would have taken just a short time to tweak that wall momentum so it doesn't do that weird Spider-man walk up completely vertical walls. I'm not saying the whole game is awful or anything, I'm saying this is a glaring flaw that should have been caught and dealt with.

Defending this as ok because you like the game doesn't make sense to me.

If getting stuck in the midst of the Giga Bowser transformation for the last 20 seconds of the match ain't broken, I don't know what is.

...And? Why does it matter how the game looks? Does it look bad? Looking like a Sonic game is hardly an argument. Playing like a Sonic game is a preference. Though the game contains enough unique elements about itself to be its own thing. But if what you are saying is truly the case, I guess that we should scrub Shovel Knight's Zelda 2 / Mega Man elements then. Because that was visually obvious those elements exist in the game.

...and I think that's lazy.
So a game being heavily influenced on a series for a general audience is lazy? Yeah, we should just get rid of any game that barrows elements from other games then. Oh wait, that would be every game after the first game in its genre.

The real question is, have you purchased the game to be making that argument against me in the first place? Because if you think any of the things you have provided in the argument take from the game's experience, then you haven't played the game. You've been deliberately looking for flaws and reasons why it is a bad game because you don't like how the game is visually presented as a Sonic styled game. While it is not your preference, you're still wrong for thinking it is a bad game based on those grounds alone.

I'm not defending the game because I like it. I'm defending it because I've played it. Not to mention I've also played nearly all of its demo incarnations to the final product. In doing so, I'm given the right to give an honest opinion of the game. If this game was a turd, I would be sure as hell to tell people that it was a turd. But due to the fact I'm here defending this game with prior hands on experience, my opinion will carry more weight than someone who has not played the game. So unless you've played the final product, you've got no grounds to tell me I'm wrong for defending it. Hell, you don't even have the grounds to tell me I'm wrong in general.

If you don't want to play the game, that is your choice. But don't post your half-baked opinion to try and stray others away from the game when you have absolutely no idea how the game feels yourself.

Shovel Knight is an original game that is inspired by the past but not shackled to it. The world and the sprites aren't stolen from another source and the product is highly polished.

That's what too many retro games get wrong, they think being old school means copying everything on a surface level without actually understanding why those games were great to begin with. They think the aesthetics are enough to coast on even if the game underneath is highly mediocre.

Hence fan hacks turned overpriced games.

So what's this debacle about smashboards sponsoring smash studios? Aren't SS's business practices supposed to be controversial? Wouldn't it be better to sponsor more reliable streams like CT and VGBC or lesser known streams like SaltyPlayground?

Uh, they do already. Check the front page, right between forum statistics and members online now.
Oh yeah. Well whatever, imo streams like SaltyPlayground and hell even TourneyLocator and WindyCitySmash are more deserving for sponsorships than SS
Edit: Assuming the rumors are true.

Don't know how much of this is true but
Not in approval of this one. FP3 was streamed on Smashstudios, and we did not enjoy working with PBnJ.
I don't think he even has his own stream equipment. All he ever does is piggyback off of whatever is brought to the venue and then play friendlies all day instead of actually run the stream...
Events I've been to that had him streaming were poor quality streams with equipment that wasn't his? Why is he a notable streamer?
SmashStudios is a cancer upon this community and so is PB&J. Ask anyone who has ever dealt with him in a business setting. His "company" sponsors it's players by scamming other people and otherwise being scum/shady.

On top of that, SmashStudios sucks at what it does. 10 years can and do put together better looking and run streams than his. The only reason anyone follows this ****er is because he raffles off **** he gets from scamming other players into paying for bull****.

I made an account to just to ****ing post this to let everyone in the community know. You shouldn't EVER work with smashstudios, they will do nothing but **** you over and perpetuate their shadiness.
