So in the end it really does look more Brawl-like. So many grabs at 0 with no follow ups, very few combos, no edgeguarding...ah well, I guess an improved Brawl, minus some of the more glaring flaws is about as much as I was hoping for anyway.

Like what could be more indicative of Brawliness than an 8 minute 4 stock match going to time, how often does that ever happen in Melee or PM lol

Smash 4 isn't Melee, but it doesn't have to be to be a fun competitive game.

Are you guys seriously expecting them to know how to combo only after 3 hours of playing? Like wtf, seriously? New game, new physics, new knockback values. First ever "competitive" match. I'm not surprised in the very least that it went to a timeout.

ALSO, MAH GIRL ZSS LOOKIN FLAMIN HOT AND STRONG. NO REGRETS FOR MAINING HER

Besides throws, it's way too early to say combos aren't viable or even common. You can't hitstun cancel for one and there were two pretty notable combos/juggles that happened throughout. This is especially dumb coming from the PM playerbase where matches moved much slower initially because the metagame had a looooooooong way to go.

I'm not saying I'm jumping on the hype train for this game just yet, but come on now.

That and the PM engine wasn't even perfect yet way back then, when it was basically just sped up Brawl with wavedashing and no tripping. Still fun.

All I'm gonna say is, if you have doubts, go to a participating Best Buy tomorrow or Saturday and try the game out for yourself. Heck, bring a notepad if you want. Research is useful.

What is wrong with you guys you are judging this game way too early

Not to mention the Grand finals was a Melee only player vs a Brawl player and there is no metagame developed

I completely agree, except the maining part. She was pushed to secondary for me. If her shoes weren't high heels it would be a harder choice between her and Greninja. :p

Cmon man, don't be so rough on her. Let her express herself a bit ;). Also, I had decided for a while that I was gonna main her, and Samus too. Oddly enough, I was also interested in Greninja.

(This will be a fairly big post, but I think many of you will appreciate some of the insight)

I'll shed some light on a few mechanics I saw that seem explainable. Since there are questions about combos, edge mechanics, etc

1. From what was shown, it appears the edges have Brawl snapping instead of Melee snapping. If you've ever played Brawl, you probably noticed that nearly any Upb to the edge can snap the edge, regardless of where you started. This is slightly disappointing, however edge stalling may be weaker than what Brawl had (reduced invincibility looked very possible).

2. A lot of combos shown tended to be similar to low % Brawl combos and locks. PPMD doing multiple Utilts with Fox for example: the reason this worked is much more related to Brawl than Melee. In Brawl, it's much easier to land hits that don't put the opponent into tumble. Brawl is notorious for people being able to "break" the combo by airdodging. However, this is only possible if your character goes into tumble. This is the reason why something like Falco's Dthrow CG in Brawl eventually ends: it's not the knockback scaling but rather the throw eventually lets them tumble. Brawl Fox had something very similar, where you ate multiple Utilts because of no tumble. You could SDI up/away, but that was literally your only remedy.

It's also impossible, or very hard, to DI hits that do not force tumble (in Brawl). This again shows up for stuff like Sheik's Ftilt Lock, and explains why you can't DI Dedede's Dthrow CG (light characters can DI, but they don't count towards the CG list anyways). Whether this holds true based on what I saw for Smash 4, I'm not certain. It may be possible to DI them better, but the actual hitstun/tumble animations were *very* familiar to Brawl and for Fox Utilt specifically I can almost certainly say it relates to Brawl mechanics more than Melee ones.

Everything else is basically widely known or speculated already. Brawl airdodges were near confirmed in the early trailers months ago. L canceling still being gone was expected since Brawl took it out. Etc

Also, it's been speculated that many chain grabs may be removed from the game. Most Dthrows that were shown had a similar property: you sent them nearly straight upwards at a decent velocity. They may be finished trying to fool with Dthrows that send people Horizontally, which would cut down on most CG's

I think the hundreds of people in the audience sat there for a few hours just waiting for every Megaman Final Smash. Weren't even there to see anything else.

Also, I saw several times PPMD try to use up-tilt to combo into grab, but the opponent was able to airdodge out of it. And it's not like they popped up pretty high, if it was anything like Melee physics, you know he would've grabbed them if you saw it.

Good Guy KDJ. Run into the Final Smash for the crowd.
When I first saw it, I thought KDJ just accidentally got caught in it. Seeing it again, he clearly ran into it on purpose. Good guy KDJ.

Unless he actually thought he could run past the hitbox.

Her bangs are already enough kawaiiness over functionality lol.
