Replayed Brawl for the first time in 9 months yesterday night.

It legit felt like the moon.

Also, now I finally understand why people say combos are non-existent. All this time, I thought they were exaggerating. Oooooh boy was I wrong.

The game is significantly more read based. I wouldn't say there are absolutely no combos, but there are a LOT of frame traps >.<

To troll people and to spit in the communities face for dashdashing all over the place like a alleyway of cats on catnip.

@ Empyrean Empyrean there are combos but they are mostly at very low percent and it's not many of them. The physics and such really pissed me off with the game over time and didn't feel rewarded for getting a hit unless it killed or was a hard read.

I have no idea. I guess they just wanted to revamp an existing mechanic.

That post was sarcasm btw. I dunno why Sakurai added tripping. Probably to cater for the casual Wii users.

Most changes made in Brawl obviously go against competitive Melee mechanics. Tripping and forced turn-arounds make dash dancing impossible, and the removal of wavelanding makes wavedashing impossible. Characters can sweetspot ledges pretty much all the time, backwards, and from much further away to go against Melee's aggressive edgeguarding.

Guys guys guys, I didn't say that to cause a war, it was merely my impressions of the game after going back to it after a long hiatus (not really though, won't be playing it anytime soon again).

We cool? :denzel:

Empyrean, you have instigated a ravenous, bloodthirsty swarm. It has been to long since my words have cut into the game as though unsheathed from my side. Now, leave us to our prey, it's' blood, and caps-lock rants...

Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!11!..........ye'h tripping ain't falco.

It's simple, Sakurai loves randomness. He loves crazy stages like Norfair and Flat Zone, and items like Hammers, Smash Balls, Pokeballs and Assist Trophies. It's one of the things he finds enjoyable about Smash, and he's said it before.

I don't think... there is a war? But at the very least I think that the game is a completely different game which plays completely different while still maintaining an interesting amount of depth to it.

Tripping is usually just an annoyance and not something that can be taken advantage of usually (though I have lost sets because of it).

Also because of how floaty the game is, if air dodges were the same as Melee, air dodging would be pretty much a nonviable option. It annoys me when people think air dodging in Brawl is a get out of jail free card; it isn't. Spamming air dodge will get you read and killed very quickly by someone who has an inkling of an idea what they're doing.

Where I play PM, some people would pick Big Blue simply because no one liked the stage, for obvious reasons. Eventually, the guy who runs the place changed the song in Big Blue to the MLP opening theme. Then people picked Big Blue even more often. Now Big Blue is replaced with a remade version of Yoshi's island(64).

Okay does anyone have any idea what the issue I'm having is?
I'm emulating PM/Melee in dolphin, and I went to frame advance so I could get a heads up on frame data for some serious theorycrafting
But it turns out dolphin won't register controller inputs until I've advanced two additional frames, or sometimes only an extra frame. Never after advancing only the first frame, it's always 1-2 frames late, and usually 2. Mostly it only takes the one extra frame in melee. I don't understand what the issue is, but I'm worried it's adding even more input lag to the already 1-6 frames I'm playing with on netplay, and that's no good.
It doesn't matter how long I wait in between advancing frames, it's not a lack of computing power, I can run the game at 60 fps just fine. I'm using a mayflash adapter, on windows 8, but even if the drivers making it slow, shouldn't they be a certain amount of time slow rather than waiting through frames, which I can advance at whatever pace? I am using 3.02 of course, and the 4.0-648 netplay branch of dolphin.

can we not discuss brawl here

this isn't what i come to this thread for

I have a topic we could discuss!

If you guys were to classify certain characters within playstyles, what do you think the most prominent ones would be? (Example: Ivysaur = Defensive, zoner; Zelda = Defensive, stage control; Fox = Offensive, rushdown etc)

Edit: I'mma nap. I hope I see some interesting responses later.
