That's so much food! lol
I fast (quite often) and eating a lot coming out of the fast isn't really something that comes to mind. If you're intentionally fasting, that's good, but don't gorge on return either. You're not fasting just to delay the consumption of the same quantity of food you would have had in that time period anyway... lol
Intentionally fasting is pretty good though. Not just for 'health' or whatever, but change of pace even, something 'different' goes a long way towards making differences elsewhere, especially when it's something so fundamental to daily habits.
That's a great point about gorging and not really changing in physical form too.
The concept of needing 3 meals a day with a certain amount of certain things to sustain oneself is pretty silly. Just the idea that we 'need' food is actually a pretty bizarre concept, and defies most logic and science in any universal sense.
Consuming food is to supplement for something... but what?
For one, given everyone, as far as what we 'know' in terms of the science of it, we should all be dead. All of us. For one reason or another. Especially given the fact that basically the entirety of the 'excess' parts of the world eat way more than they 'should' in a day, and don't get almost anything they 'need' in a day out of that food, yet we still living, while other parts of the world have the other extreme of lacking, even spending 40% or more of every single day of their lives just looking for water, and they might be worse-off health-wise in some ways, but they're doing way better in other ways, and by our standards should drop instantly due to lacking basic nourishment.
Then there's the other side of it, the extreme of this is intentional breatharians or whatever (people who don't eat almost at all)
This is a quote I like.
"When you're hungry, eat, but not more than you need to. When you're tired, sleep, but not more than you need to."
It's not just for this, but simply means to do whatever you must or want to do, that's all.
For example of this from personal experience, from December 12th to 30th, I spent more days not eating than I did eating. No reason other than... meh, didn't feel like eating food more than every 2nd or 3rd day for most of those days.
The same with sleeping. Spent more nights awake all night than I did sleeping through that same period of time. (spending an all-nighter right now maybe, but probs sleeping for a couple hours later)
Did anything change with my physical being? Not really on the observable surface, and definitely not distinctly or significantly, but probably something happened.
Am I dead or undernourished, or lacking energy, or was I during that time? Not in the slightest. Felt great, hence I did it.
Placebo effect? What's the deal? Why are we all still alive?
Screw breakfast. Midnight snacks only for life.
Food, after all, is in the end only for the joy of tasting it.
Though, it's still a supplement for something we're 'lacking' and until and unless (BOTH at once) we're aware and applying whatever is lacking, whether we're consciously doing it or not, food IS that supplement to help along the way. Whether it's our equanimity with some sensation deep down, or whatever, cause and effect has to go and come from somewhere.
wtf is food anyway?
People from... however long ago, would probably think our whole food-world today is insane and that we'll all die before we're 10 from poor diets. XD
Edit:
tl;dr Eat to feel good. Not in a 'ooooh tasty sensations are satisfactory, gimme more' way.
Instead of eating for the sake of conditioned habit that you 'eat' whenever throughout a day, and instead of eating for the sake of just the flavor or just the nutrition, just eat solely and exclusively to feel good. When you're already feeling good, don't eat, or you're just chasing sensations. or it's a habit as observable as a Smash tendency. Just eat when you clearly feel like you would benefit from it. Even if it is just the taste, pay attention to the reason you're eating, and your diet will mend itself to be perfect for you. Do this all with your own discretion, but try and make sure, as habits/cravings are deceptive... and that's exactly what it's 'Supplementing' for, the thing you're lacking without knowing you're lacking it.
Catch it. Life is a fun game, and food is a great tool. Smash too, for the exact same reasons among others too.
