Haven't they said this before? I mean sure this time it might actually be true because screw Konami, but I doubt this game is necessary to complete the story.

The story sort of stopped mattering after 4, this to me is just more Metal Gear goodness with the Boss himself along for the ride.

Pretty sure that people wanna know why Big Boss fell from grace. It's a "missing link" in the sense that we don't exactly know why Boss went bat**** crazy and became a nuclear nutjob, so this game is meant to fix that. To me, as a Metal Gear fan, that's kind of important.

I kind of hate how that is usually handled in serialized fiction, that we eventually have to see the moment that someone goes completely to the Dark Side. Real life rarely happens like that. It is a gradual thing that happens based on your collective experiences. Breaking Bad was good about avoiding that.

That's why I thought it was cool the creators of Rick and Morty explicitly said they won't do an origin story that explains why Rick is the way he is. We met one of his old girlfriends but she wasn't the one that got away, just somebody from his past that he cared about.

I reason if you're gonna start a story about a character, you should at least give it some closure. I guess MGS4 would have been suitable for that, but still, it's a pretty big leap from point A to point B that leaves a lot of questions unanswered, without characterization and all that that would help you understand why Boss got to this point.

When in the first few episodes promised fanservice I thought it was a joke, and the whole preview sections were always misleading altogether, as if they were making fun of other animes with them. But now the fanservice is so pronounced, I guess not.
