The really odd thing about the entire "mods" are inferior because they are mentality is that it hinges completely on a really easily debunked assumption that companies actually produce the entirety of each game in house. They don't, for the most part at least, not even in the slightest, all smash games were outsourced to other companies and use various engines and content that has been licensed for use. All you have to do is watch the intro's or the credits for half a second to start seeing where everything came from. If anything mods are, in many ways, more "pure" as they are usually exclusively made by one dedicated group of people that predominately don't have to abide by production time crunches that cripple many modern titles. It's just ignorance that is SO easy to dispel as to not make any sense whatsoever. Physics engines, game engines, artwork, sfx, playtesting, concepts, storyboards, ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT, depending on the company, some, if not all, of these things are often outsourced to companies whose sole purpose is to do this for the larger companies. Easy example Bethesda using the gamebryo engine for two, going on three, decades, though, to be fair, they did buy the company out for assets /shrug. But for the love of god, there are expo's solely intended for people to show off their new software and dev tools to big producers in hopes of getting licensed out, contracted in, or even being bought out, like god damn.
