Urgh. I feel like 15% of my songs do that. The worst part is I can't even figure out how to defrag the sd card. Even redownloading a song and making a new BRSTM doesn't help.

Back up your files first
Assuming you are using windows 7 go to Computer, right click your SD card while it's inserted and hit format.

Remember to back up those files because Formatting deletes everything.

The other thing you can try is just to back up the files, delete the songs, then just re-add them. That's usually what fixes it for me.

I would assume that the PM:BR would let shield be jump-cancellable for Yoshi, for the sake of consistency with shield across the board if anything. Plus, it'd make him a lot better, so there's that.

I'm actually looking into that right now.

Windows 8 disabled defragmenting SD cards because they're essentially SSDs and defragmenting wears them out.

So far the **** I've found only applies to actual SSDs and not SD cards.

So looking into Base volumes of the songs in the game

Who thought it was a good idea to put Yoshi's Island at a base of [35] when the standard is [80]

Do you know how many good songs I deleted because I thought they were too quiet when it was actually the game making them quieter?!?!

It's even worse that I have NO idea how to get that code to work to change said songs to a higher volume. I'm literally stuck with the [67] value on "Super mario bros 3" which is Yoshi's Story(Melee) in P:M
