You have to be into metal to like most of it, and ambient stuff too I guess. As Do the Gallows is a freaking monolith. I'm not sure what you mean by redeem when I actually still like most of these songs. I just don't like my vocals. They could do with some improving, but they're really not far from something I could like. I'd prefer to sound more like Agalloch, Les Discrets, or Solstafir nowadays. More than anything though, my writing has always been stunted by not having a band to bounce ideas off of.

Yes

They started departing from the more moody black/thrash/symphonic metal stuff they started with and started becoming really hammy and over the top. I didn't find what I was listening to to have very interesting song structures out melodies. Their second album is definitely my favorite.

Same. People have been playing at Baylor more than I thought (unknown people playing at all was something I knew, but I don't know many Baylor peeps or have info on direct events/gatherings). They are doing a PM tourney this Friday, I dunno how try-hard I should be

I'll admit, I didn't think there was any Smash scene in my College. Turns out there's a decent Melee scene and a few PM players and I'm glad I found out my Sophmore year and not later.

While I'm nothing special at Melee, I'm still one of the better players and I just beat everyone in PM, which is kinda boring TBQH. Still, gets people motivated so I'm hoping by Junior year I can get some actual practice in.

Still, more fun then the constant Ike v Charizard I succumb to losing every time at weeklies. And the Ike Shielda practice.

Ugress (sometimes), Booglie Belique, Dirty Elegance (only some of their songs), Nightmares on Wax, RJD2 (half of his stuff), Pretty Lights, The Polish Ambassador (sometimes)

Then sometimes: Rammstein (rarely), Gigi D' Agostino (rarely), Enya, Nujabes and all these other artists like him (Nomak): I actually get sick of people liking Nujabes too much though. Especially when they haven't even got his full Disco, as well as the two albums of artists that influenced him. And then they ALWAYS play either Nujabes or Nomak on their stream.

I catch a lot of artists off different compilation/combo videos

Your basic mainstream rock I've listened to since middle school and such: Linkin Park, Korn, Audioslave, Staind, Disturbed, Three days grace, Offspring, SOAD, Celldweller etc.

So it went like, mainstream rock groups, to Dubstep, then I discovered Dubstep sucks and Drum and Bass was everything I wanted Dubstep to be, now I hate half the Drum and Bass out there especially after it replaced Dubstep in popularity and @Warchamp7 probably doesn't listen to the good ones. Then Nujabes (from GHNeko), then parov stelar, then Emancipator & later Bonobo, then down-tempo music, now back to a mix of everything. Also got packs of Classical music, which I need to download some more genres out there.

I could mention a bunch of other bands like Andrew Jackson Jihad, Portis head, Major Lazer, Blackmill; but I don't listen to them much.

I got a $50 Classical guitar I use to know only a couple songs and your basic chords, a $25 Ukulele and your super basic chords, two plastic ~$20 Ocarinas never got around to mastering any song, a recorder from elementary school. Overall I have no gift for making or playing music, only having good tastes in listening. So good music taste and Smash (especially when I have light press air dodge) are what I'm good at since I've enjoyed both since so young.

Like I've probably written 5 hours of music just to write those 12 songs
Like it took me a year to write those

Most of songwriting is just throwing **** together and seeing what sticks

Inspiration and taste are secondary to actually applying yourself and working your ass off

I used to play guitar six hours a day every day just because I loved music, so unless you've got that kind of dedication you'll never learn an instrument

That's why I someday want to learn to see how far I can get. Which includes how good I can get my voice to sound, if I can ever get some free singing lessons or something.

I don't think I got the gift or natural inclination of any instrument though (and trying to get good at Guitar can entail some hand problems to people, though that's not the main reason I'm not trying it more). That's why I want to see if I can produce anything good using a program once I get some kind of starting point.

Same thing with learning Spanish. I use to be doing more learning programs, but now School and Jobs and physical injuries and stuff.
