Potential Roster/Stage Leak Thread

I think the css we saw is final. Since Nintendo has to show esrb everything so they can check why would they have left characters off it.

If it's a video I assume it was like a 5 second clip of the CSS. A quick shot of the menu like this:

It's quite possible they showed the rest of the characters and looked at all those trophy naughty bits on something else. Or the rest of the characters are on a pamphlet or anything. We don't know how this process works so it's hard to say "Well they sent them a movie so obviously it has to show the entire finished product" because its hard to tell for sure. We just know they don't play the games.

A couple of problems here.

Firstly, if Sakurai said we may not get as many newcomers as last time, he said so early in development (I'm pretty sure he hasn't said anything like that recently, at least). Therefore Dark Pit and Lucina would not factor into his considerations as they were last minute additions. So that actually only puts us at 15 newcomers for the purposes of this discussion.

Secondly, Mewtwo is a veteran, not a newcomer. That means that even accounting for his inclusion, we'd still be at 15 newcomers.

So if Sakurai is aiming for as many/fewer newcomers than Brawl, we could still get at least 3 more before we reach that limit, and Mewtwo wouldn't count towards it.



This has been brought up in the thread before. Nintendo don't have to show the ESRB everything so long a) they tell them what else is in the game; and b) that content isn't any worse than anything they've already been shown.

However, as we don't know how Dark Pit is in this game (alt color, alt costume, clone, or unique-moveset but his model looks like Pit), there is no way to know if he was a "late minute addition" to the roster or if he's in it at all. We can say he's incredibly likely with the rising authenticity of this leak, but it isn't concrete. This especially holds true since Sakurai says Lucina was lucky to be promoted from Alt. Costume to Fighter and how the build was down to fixing bugs and errors diligently for the Japanese 3DS version by the time Lucina was confirmed. Would such luck strike twice without referencing the other case?

But when it comes to newcomers, we have 3 from E3, 2013 (), 3 between the E3's (), 5 characters are 3 parts of E3 2014 () because if Sakurai states that Sheik made the roster 26 in Melee, it means it was 39 in Brawl and likewise the Mii fighters should be considered three characters in one "slot" akin to , and finally we have gotten 3 post E3 2014 (/, Shulk) officially confirmed.

3+3+5+3 brings us to 14 characters officially deemed newcomers. The video leaks unofficially confirm Bower Jr. and the Junior Copter as a newcomer, bringing us to 15. Dark Pit and Duck Hunt still brings us to 17, with 15 or 16 planned from Day 1 if not early development (according to how Sakurai stated he pre-planned the roster).

I never said Mewtwo was a newcomer. I was saying that with the 5 unknown slots if the roster shown was indeed true, and all have chances still. This would leave room for two more newcomers, bringing the total to 19. However, if returned in a Fourth of the 5 slots, that would only leave one slot open for a newcomer who would bring the total to 18. This is all theorycrafting based on what we know officially, what was shown in the leaked gameplay videos, and the original leak roster from 4-chan/ESRB.

With 5 slots of mystery if this leak is true and the size doesn't expand out for another column horizontally (6x10) or vertically (7x9), neither of which I see happening any time soon, we have our hands tied. More veterans returning means less spaces for newcomers. I am not saying "Oh because Lucas made it back we don't have King K.Rool" because that's a stupid arguement. I am saying that there are only a few seats left in the movie theater if the ESRB sent out a real-but-incomplete guest list.

I would have thought that Dark Pit being grouped with Dr Mario and Lucina would have made it perfectly obvious that he was a clone character. The fact that Lucina was a last-minute promotion from an alt costume makes it likely that the characters she's grouped with were as well.

I would also argue that the fact that Dark Pit didn't get a splash screen like Lucina did implies that he was included after that trailer was made, whereas the decision to promote Lucina happened before her trailer. Ergo he was almost certainly a last-minute addition.

Also, you're still counting Lucina as one of the 18 newcomers, even though you acknowledged my point about her not counting due to being a late addition. So it's actually 3+3+5+2, or 13, before we consider any other newcomers.

You specifically said that Mewtwo would bring it up to 18, equal to Brawl, which only makes sense if you're talking about the number of newcomers, and therefore Mewtwo as a newcomer.

He never said no clones. Clone is a fan-term he would never use. I believe the oft-misinterpreted statement he made was he wanted fighters to bring unique qualities. Remember, what you consider unique and Sakurai considers such can be quite different. His own definition of unique does not rule out so-called clones. And given how desperate the fanbase is to level the accusation of being a clone, I wouldn't trust a fan's interpretation anyway.

FOUR DAYS before the video of Bowser Jr. and Shulk pop up he posts these threads:

In them he states that Bowser Jr's moveset is:

Yup, biggest hole in the whole thing. Maybe the rest of the characters were shown elsewhere on a pamphlet or something. I don't think Namco would be allowed to keep the cast a secret from the ESRB. They need to see every potentially inappropriate thing. The video was probably a quick 5 second clip of character select on a half finished game file or an older build of the game possssibly???? Or he's lying to screw with us. He seemed trustworthy with everything he told people even if they didn't believe him initially so I'm going to cross my fingers and trust him.

Regarding this... are Dubadubadubizatrue and Dubadubadubizatrue2 the same person? because the one that talked about Shulk's moveset is not the same user than the one that attested that there would be more chars.

Bowser's version of it, which has been seen in the Wii/WiiU editions of New Super Mario Bros. to hold Bowser Jr. and the 7 Koopalings at once, yes. The Melee Trophy of it states it as such.

Edit: To specify, the name is ONLY seen when Bowser Jr. hops out of it to fight you on foot. During this time, you can target attack the unmanned machine to retrieve the Bros. moves that get stolen from you after you use them.

He posted Bowser Jr's moveset though. One of his post history posts says something about alt accounts but I have no idea why. Maybe his first account got banned from the subreddit for posting "false" information. Everyone called the shulk moveset false until we were proven wrong.

Also apparently the youtube videos were posted by a person under a similar name or something. I cannot verify but I saw that someone mentioned that in a reply to him.

I was meaning on-cartridge/on-disc roster. As DLC could but has yet to be confirmed to happen, there are some factors to that.

a) When would this even come out? It took a WHILE for Mario Kart 8 DLC to be confirmed, and will take even longer for any to come out.

b) For all we know, it could just be stages! There's no explicit statement for character DLC to really happen OFFICIALLY, only leakers who may be (and some have admitted to) lying.

c) To balance any new characters, dropped veterans or newcomers would take a LOT of time and effort, which would only further delay when such would come out.

d) How would this work online? Or even locally with characters whose game doesn't have those characters "added."

e) How would this factor with characters already in a role. You mentioned Ridley and Isaac. Is Alfonzo going to substitute for the boss of pyrosphere and the assist trophy to use Move? To be realistic, those two characters can easily be in either role. Making them playable through DLC would need some factoring with their in-game iterations.

Sure, DLC CAN expand the roster. But there's a LOT of technical aspects that go into that idea.

Mewtwo, Dixie and Ridley are all left into question...if you count the add-on leak.
Otherwise, none.

Yeah I kinda wish people would stop pairing my leak up with that 4chan leak...

While I have no idea if their info is true, I could almost guarantee everything I said in my leak is true now that the images, videos, and Shulk have surfaced.

Ninka, are you sure that Snake, Lucas, ICs and Wolf are cut ? How could the tester (the friend of your friend) know ? Does he know all the characters of the game ?

I do believe the leak is real especially after Shulk. But... there is one thing it got wrong. The leaked footage of Shulk showed his down-air being similar to Link's down-air. However, in the trailer, Shulk's down-air is much more similar to Marth's then Link's. Just thought I'd bring that up. I still think it's real though.
