At first I only liked Litten because I hope he ends up being a fire tiger

But the more I see 'em, the more I actually quite like the cat. Oh course I'm still hoping he turns into an awesome fire tiger...

If it's based on hawaii, I wonder if there is going to be an awesome sea turtle pokemon. Maybe it'll evolve into some kind of awesome leatherback pokemon. That'd be awesome

Picking the fire starter and having an awesome turtle as my water type would be great. Make it happen GF!

They physically look different enough from Archelons though.

Example, modern sea turtles have shells, Archelons didn't. They had a bone structure covered in leathery skin

Isn't stoutland based on a Yorkshire terrier? It has some elements of a St. Bernard but not appearance. Mantine is based off a manta ray. Manta ray and stingrays are from the same family but obviously different. Many Pokemon are based on previously featured design basis so I fail to see why those would be a problem. Look at:

Mankey/Darmantian/Infernape
Squirtle /Turtwig/the turtle fossil
All the caterpillar Pokemon
Magnemite/Nosepass

While obviously an orangatang and a turtle is different from a monkey and a tortoise, they share similar families. Future Pokemon based on similar animal families from previous generations, in my opinion, should be fair game as long as they bring something new and refreshing.

Oh and on the topic of voltorb, I've always wanted to see a legit anglerfish with a poke ball on the top of its head.

Are the new starters supposed to be based on a circus?
Rowlet looks like it would be the Ringmaster (mostly because of the bowtie and its head is perfect for a hat).
Popplio is a seal balancing a ball on its nose plus the thing around its neck looks similar to what clowns wear.
Litten is your "ferocious beast" or whatever they call tigers in a circus. Lions and tigers are also known to jump through flaming hoops, which fits its fire typing well.

Also, Popplio is the only Pokemon with a somewhat decent design IMO, but I'm probably choosing Litten because of its potential evolutions and the fact that fire is my favorite typing.

I don't think we will know if there is a theme until we see the final evolutions. I was thinking what the second types would be if they will have them and, in keeping with the X/Y typing pattern (fire/psychic, grass/fighting, and water/dark); I think it's possible that Popplio could potentially be Water/Ice and Litten could be Fire/Fightning. I hope it's not that again though. Rowlet could lose the secondary flying typing in its final evolution.

Rowler kind of ****s everything up to with that secondary type right off the bat.

Personal wishlist:

Exp. All- If it will still be a broken mess, which I can't deny comes in handy, then they should go Gen 1 route in which it was obtained mid game and it was locked behind a 45 (?) captured Pokemon requirement. This would invite people to catch more Pokemon if they want to break the game so bad, and at mid game so the beginning is as frustrating and grindy as the good old Pokemon games. And if they want lame grinding back so bad bring back Audino grinding from Gen 5, which was handy but tedious.

Customization- Please let us remove the hat. I saw a video showing it MIGHT be possible, but I want this confirmed. Let us buy outfits from the other protagonists of the Pokemon games, and for giggles the previous evil team uniforms. Let us have crazy hair colors like blue or white. If the NPCs can why can't us?

Get over event exclusive Pokemon- It will baffle me if GameFreak leaves 3 legendaries hidden that will be discovered by hackers day 1, and release them on completely arbitrary dates and locations by the time I already dropped the game. Seriously, it's predictable and annoying. Integrate this crittens somewhere in the game, like I don't know, post game!? One of the main flaws with this games and where Gen 6 failed? And I'm not only talking Gen 7, I am talking about all of those devilish event Pokemon (Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, Hoopa, Volcanion). Seriously, screw event exclusives. It is an inconsistent and biased system (ex. Jirachi is almost NEVER given away in America, and in Japan they give them out like candy, the stupid region exclusive events) to piss on completionists. They integrated Deoxys in ORAS just fine, as well as shoehorning every other legendary in there as well. If they could with them, they can with everyone. And if they want the process to be ridiculous and complicated like the Mew gltich then fine, just let me catch this devils and end my misery!

Not sure a mosquito would be the best choice

For bugs, the best fossil pokemon bug choices have already been made as regular bug pokemon

Such as Meganeura and Arthropleura

Mosquito's today are more or less the same as mosquitos back then. They weren't massive bugs or exceptionally special

Oh baby Pokemon Sun and Moon hype. I said before that the final evolved form of the fire starter might become my fifth favourite Pokemon yeah I think I'll have to wait and see on that. Rowlet's Definetly my choice it's an owl with a freaking bow tie and it turns it's head to listen to trainers' instructions. Yup Definetly Rowlet. The Alola region looks cool it's based of Hawai one of the most beautiful places around so that's cool. The characters look cool too Professor Hala your, mom and cousin. And what I assume to be your rival. I like the starter designs Litten looks lit and Popplio is cool. Solgaleo and Lunaala look majestic and cool. Looking forward to more news as the months go by November 18 we a coming.

Thank goodness for Serebii posting about this otherwise I wouldn't have known my thanks to them. I was looking up indigenous animals to Hawaii since Alola seems to be based off being there. A mongoose is a native species there deer as well so I was thinking it could be a deer or a mongoose, other people think it could be a breed of dog native to Japan known as the Shiba Inu. People probably have this species of dog in Hawaii I'm sure and Gamefreak probably wants to shout out to one of their stomping grounds in Japan so it could a Shiba Inu, no one's sure yet we'll have to see when more info comes people think it could be Lillipup but considering no one knows what it is. I doubt it.

I can see it being a random normal type but not the Regional Rodent of this gen, as they are usually based off of mammals that are viewed as pests...

Rats, raccoons, beavers, rabbits are problematic pests for the most part while this pokemon appears to be either a dog or a deer of some kind...sure sometimes they can be pests but for the most part are more respected than say a gopher...

It can definitely more akin to pokemon like Lillipup or deerling for the most part...

I was thinking Dark/Fairy for Lunaala actually...close ties to the moon and it's appearance fits both typings...

Marshadow can be viewed a few ways...some people believe that it may be another legend, possibly the trio master with Solgaleo and Lunaala, perhaps representing the Eclipse because of 'Shadow'...while 'Mars' in the name gives of a celestial vibe...

My initial thoughts were 'Marsh' as in the wetlands and 'Shadow'...perhaps as some Dark/Grass or Dark/Water type...Hard to say at this point as we can only speculate...we only have the name to go off of, and it may not even be the english name...

Considering that the Pokemon may be first encountered when walking outside the players house (which can be assumed in the video), it would technically make sense for the Pokemon to be an early obtainable Pokemon rather than a Pokemon obtainable later. That was my take on it.

Popplio's balloon bubble gimmick reminded me of the Hooded Seal...

They use an inflatable pouch within their nose for mating displays, similar to frigate birds...
Popplio blows bubbles that it uses to 'put on a show'...so in a way it's almost the same thing, save for the fact it blows bubbles out of water instead of a pouch that's part of it's anatomy...
Also if you really think about it, the pouch is very much like an oversized clown's nose...

Perhaps this could be a possible direction they are going in with Popplio, cept in a more subtle fashion...

The funny thing is, you just have to level up Sliggoo to level 50 at an area that's experiencing rainfall, and it'll evolve. Of course, the main challenge is just finding an area that's raining.

My biggest problem with that is that, unless you look it up, no one is gonna KNOW about that. It may happen on accident, but if it doesn't than you could be at lvl. 75 wondering how long this is gonna take. Worse than Sliggoo though is Inkay. I mean, Who randomly turns their 3DS while a pokemon levels up? I feel like if you have to look up this kinda stuff just to get an evolution, than it's too convoluted. I guess the same could be said with stone and trade evolutions, but I don't think quite the same about those... huh. Call me fickle I guess

That's the reason I miss B2W2's Xtranciever feature. If you called Juniper, she'd outright tell you what to do to evolve Pokemon and Hugh would tell you the locations of legendaries. It was surprising to me that XY nixed it and it didn't return for ORAS since it'd make doing things like evolving Sliggoo and finding the legendary spots a lot easier to do.
