*I'll try and keep this short*

I have been playing Pokemon like most of you since gen 1. The series has progressed quite nicely and I was both happy and sad when gen 4 came out. I was happy cuz I liked the story, the map and the setting. I was sad because most of the Pokemon were BUTT UGLY!!!!!!!! All and all though, gen 4 was pretty awesome especially with its new wi-fi stuff (which I adored).

Now we have gen 5. To make this blog smaller I will just provide positive and negative bullets points:

Positive:
an engaging story line
the new Pokemon look cool
only gen 5 Pokemon are available during the story
TM's do not disappear after you use them (THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!)
fewer HM's (no more forcing 8 moves onto your team or getting an HM *****... well... I still do that last one)
bigger cities
cooler set up for the Elite Four (and I liked the Elite 4 line up)
The Pokemon finally move while in battle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Negative:
This story was a little...... gay. It got better at the end though.
While it is nice to not have to use HM's that much... you almost never use em. I think I may have used cut 3 times to beat the game and strength finally became useful twice at the victory road.
Poison no longer hurts you out of battle..... which just makes it like a stupid burn (burrrrrn). The first thing I done was buy 20 antidotes and I still have yet to use em all). Poisoning while annoying... was just part of Pokemon.
The region looks stupid.... there is no randomness to the roads or anything. The map is an egg... plain and simple.
THIS REGION IS TO FREAKIN EASY TO CROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my biggest gripe. In every previous generation you had these long treks were healing items were a must and you usually ran out of PP on a few moves due to lack of healing. The large unexplored areas of Kanto, Jhoto, Hoenn and Shinnoh were awesome, and it made the game longer. Now it just seems like a waste to use a max repel in a cave cuz you will be out of it before it wears off.
This game sucks after you beat the story! The areas to the east are horrible. Nothing but trainers with level 60+ Pokemon that are weak. I ran through the whole area in an hour and beat the trainers in my way with my play through team. It was really pathetic. I've found most of the boring ole sages now and this game has gotten really dull. It feels more like I am playing an MMO for experience than playing a Pokemon game.
The Poketranfer sucks really bad. It takes really freaking long just for a few Pokemon. I have 3 boxes I want to transfer!

I haven't started the whole wi-fi part of the game yet and making an awesome team, hopefully that'll be more fun. I can tell you right now, this is the worst Pokemon game to date. They done right on the features and new Pokemon.... but everything else is stupid. Oh, and WTF is with so many new ancients?

ps New skin FTW (it rhymes).

The map is a bit strange.
Still, the game manages to take longer than the previous ones.

Everything else is an amazing improvement from Gen 4.

I still wish they'd bring back the pokétch though. D:

Otherwise I feel this gen is exceptionally strong, especially considering it is the only new gen to come out on the same console as a previous one. Originals were on GB, GSC on GBC etc etc so you know, I'm really impressed that they put out a truly engaging game that couldn't rely on new console tricks to succeed.

Also, the wifi will allow it to last until the next gen, I mean all that trading, breeding, and battling. I mean that is if you don't hack your pokémon, and even then battling will still consume a lot of time ha.

Who are you kidding? After you beat the elite four in any game the story kinda ends. Theres one notable, like catching mewtwo or fighting red but the game for all intents and purposes is over.

I heard this game was awesome. Haven't played it yet but it sounds like they changed a lot. Change is bad :( but Im sure Ill still love the game. I mean its pokemon

Honestly, in terms of improvements in game functions:

3>4>5>2>1 Gens. Gen3 had the biggest and most needed change, 4 and 5 continued to assist that, and 2/1 were terrible.

In terms of all around liking:

2(I'm a nostalgia fanboy, I'll admit it. Ttar for life yo) > 5 > 1> 3 > 4

Honestly, I feel in terms of story and creation 4 had the weakest, with 3 not being too far behind. 2/5/1 were amazing though. I honestly love Gen 5 more than Gen 1, but that's just me.

You *****s are gay. I've been playing since the original Red and Blue, followed this **** since it first released in Japan, and this is BY FAR the best gen yet.

At least you're all admitted nostalgia *****s, because that is basically the only thing that could make anyone think that B/W sucks... The new pokes are pretty much all cool(save for that derp-faced flatfish), there;s an ACTUAL PLOT with a compelling antagonist(the Plasma King is no Gary M'fing Oak, but he's pretty intriguing), you don't need HMs to beat the game(no more HM slaves unless you want the optional items/quests), and the multiplayer features are off the chain with utility and function.

Simply put, this is the pinnacle of Pokemon games... and here I thought they outdid themselves with Heart Gold/Soul Silver...

Needed right?

Then care to explain why the change in the EV/IV system in Gen 3 was needed or NECESSARY?

I agree with nearly this entire statement here. I mostly just dislike a lot of the new mons but other than that he pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Ehhhh kinda

Not really positive depending on your outlook but okay

fewer HM's (no more forcing 8 moves onto your team or getting an HM *****... well... I still do that last one)
I actually didn't know this because I haven't payed much attention to the buzz surrounding the game, it's pretty cool although I wish they'd just ****ing let you delete your HM move without the help of a Move Deleter.

Poison no longer hurts you out of battle..... which just makes it like a stupid burn (burrrrrn). The first thing I done was buy 20 antidotes and I still have yet to use em all). Poisoning while annoying... was just part of Pokemon.
Again, haven't heard this until now and yeah it's kind of stupid.

I don't like most of the 5th Gen Pokémon, but I think 5th Gen is otherwise pretty damn awesome. That's speaking from the perspective of someone who's into the multiplayer more than the single player, though.

Okay, I'm not a fan of IVs. It makes me resort to Pokegen. EV/Natures are another story, though. These add loads of customization to your team, it simply makes the game way more deeper.

I'll admit Gen V has a lot of stupid Digi-Pokes, but the good ones are so good I could care less.

Serperior, Elektross, Zekrom, Rishiram, Archeops, Haxorous, Hydregion, The electric Spider, Chandulere(sp) just to name a few.

If Gen V was Gen 1 and vice versa, how many of you would be complaining about Seaking, Voltorb, etc?

Your gripe about the length of routes and caves, at least imo, was quite the opposite from my experience. It felt like it took me ****ing forever to get through a route. But I'm pretty sure that's because I ran into a wild Pokemon about every 2 steps (which made me both run out of PP really fast and buy a **** load of Max Repels that I got a lot of use out of). Because I noted that after I used a Max Repel I did find myself going through areas very quickly, much like you said.

The inclusion of trainers on almost every route who would heal your Pokemon was pretty cool though, imo. I found that extremely useful.

Everyone hates on gen 4 but the physical special split was way more useful than people give credit. Shadow ball used to be physical. Gengar was constantly face palming.

The map is a bit strange.

I beat this game in like 20 hours or so. I flew straight through the routes. Since I used a smaller team (4 Pokemon) I was always a higher level than everyone. This game is really freaking easy. The only time I EVER had a problem was with Ghetsis... and max revives took care of him.
ps My second Pokemon was Litwick... do the math.
Final team: Serperior, Chandelure, Zoroark and Haxorus
I still wish they'd bring back the pokétch though. D:
lol, I completely forgot about that.
I agree, that was very cool.
Who are you kidding? After you beat the elite four in any game the story kinda ends. Theres one notable, like catching mewtwo or fighting red but the game for all intents and purposes is over.
In lets say gen 4.... after you beat the game you have that cool area in the upper right hand corner, which was both long and engaging. In this one you gain access to an un-engaging eastern part of the map. All it is is tiny routes and small cities. The routes are full of trainers with stage 1 Pokemon at level 63!
I still say the best after game crap was FR and LG. I loved the islands.
Haxorous is a beast :)
1 x-defend, 2 dragons dances, 5 dragon claws and 1 less Elite 4 to worry about. lol
Either than or plant leech seed with Serperior and coil yourself to godliness and then sweep em away. lol
my biggest gripe is that after gen 2 the pokemon just started to look like ******** digimon. and im not a fan of digimon.

Also..... http://img831.imageshack.us/i/cantbeunseen.png/sr=1

Haxorus is kind of a digimon (Metalgraymon) but he kind of reminds me of Tyranitar. So it's all good. But seriously, this gen has some old school looking Pokemon. For example, Musharna, Whimsicott, Archeops, Haxorus, Mienshao and Briviary
If Gen V was Gen 1 and vice versa, how many of you would be complaining about Seaking, Voltorb, etc?
Yep, but we remember them from our childhood so it is something that we have always known and we over look them. For example, my lil bro's first Pokemon game was ruby. He thinks it is the best Pokemon game to date with the coolest Pokemon to date.

lol, "I overleveled a Pokemon, used Repels and Max Revives, and cleared the game with one of the most efficient approaches to the it. Therefore, the game is too easy."

This is an RPG, and a turn-based one at that. Of course there'd be an easy way to beat it.

I probably should rephrase.

I never bothered with Max Repels in any of the other games because I never felt the constant stop and go due to battling when playing through. I felt it in this game, and it made going through certain routes feel like it was taking forever.

A nurse/doctor on almost every route = cool, and mainly for what I stated before. Not to mention if you ever feel the need to grind it's a lot more convenient (which I never did and most shouldn't, but you never know; I know my girlfriend has had to grind at almost every gym leader, but she's also going through in one of the worst ways possible). I do feel like it's all a little wasted though with the new EXP gain mechanics, but I still like it.

Also, speaking of the changes in EXP gain, it's actually easier to train things in this game; at all levels. Who'da thunk. :awesome: I got my first lvl 100 in like, a day and a half. EV training included.

Dude, that's how Pokemon should be played. lol A team of 6 just screws up leveling and you can't effectively tank or sweep.

That's how it should be played if you want to beat the game as quickly as possible. I had no problems getting through it with a full team of 6, exploring all over with the Dowsing Machine, picking up items along the way, using no Repels, and capturing any Pokemon I hadn't already caught, and it only took me about 10 hours more than you. If you don't intend to jump right into multiplayer battling through Wi-Fi or IR battles afterward, I don't see why you need to fly through at maximum efficiency at all.

Definitely different ways to play, lol.
I like to keep building a team etc. for after the game, but whatever. All I know is that playing the way I always play didn't cut it, because I got my *** handed to me by a few Gym Leaders, and even by the third playthrough, I was getting destroyed my Ghetsis.

The antithesis:

Unfortunate typing aside, he isn't that bad.

How can you hate this guy? He's adorable <3

Meh.

Definitely not the worst out there.

I started out hating this guy, but now I love him. That middle evolution is pure filler, though.

:urg:

Beartic isn't bad, though his prevo is absolutely awful.

Gotta agree with you here.

No way, man. This is the troll Pokemon, Dunsparce's long lost cousin.

He's grown on me. For some reason, he looks really dumb when not animated. lol

Yeeeeah...
My responses in bold. Agree with some, disagree with others.

These are all first gen pokémon I feel would definitely get called stupid looking if they were released this gen.

Man let's not go there with the Red/Blue sprites, and o.O @ Green.

Well lame/******** I should mention.

I mean ****, people talk **** about Lumineon and Alomowhateverit'scalled, when they look just like fish too.

Not to mention it's also the idea of being uninspired which current gens get a lot of heat for. Goldeen and Seaking are... fish. Greaaaat. Guess that took real inspiration to think up.

Basically not that I'm criticising, I'm just saying Gen 1 isn't as magical as it's cracked up to be.

Although it still has the best pokémon, only to give them ****ty stats or make them evolve. Like why is something as well designed as Dragonair a pre evo? D:

Gen 1 competitive is dumb sleep and speed abuse, Gen 2 competitive is really defensive (I enjoyed it but a lot of people hated it), Gen 3 was nice, Gen 4 was nice, gen 5 I dunno it's still being explored

One of my favorite starters got banned in fifth gen in OU but as much as I dislike it, it probably was warranted.
