EDIT: Hurray, we are going! Expect three more to show up. Honestly, this will be our first REAL tournament. (Hosted several smalls one in my area, but no one is great here but my crew)

We need to know the rule specifics like stages allowed, and does the $5 cost cover everything or is that per tournament (meaning you must pay $10 to do singles and doubles)?

No one from Dallas is going to drive up to Utah to win a Wii. The gas money required to get there would cost way more than they could get by selling the Wii on eBay. Unless they managed to sell it for $1000.

At the last tournament it was 4 stock and 8 minutes(?) and the stage rules were pretty random with some sets being all on FD. -_-

Srsly, thanks for all the congrats guys. I'll see you guys some time this week I'm sure, lol.

Props to DMK, Ice and Shaggy (you know who you are) for nearly beating me; super props to The Wob for not only for coming back out of the loser's bracket and winning the whole thing, but for coming back from a 2 game deficit in the first match against me to take the win.

As always this was another well run TxGamer's event and I'm looking forward to the next one. Do you still have any of those bumper stickers left? I'd be glad to advertise for you guys.

I would like to start putting together Texas Gamers rules for Melee and Brawl.. I figured you guys play in them and should have some feedback on how they are made.... I would like get a few of you to help me put together a set of rules for all Texas Gamers Melee/Brawl tournaments..

Oh god. There's no reason ever to have a best of 7 set. For Brawl, best of 5 for grand finals and best of 3 for everything else like last time is the way to go. Brawl best of 3 sets are long enough not to warrant best of 5 for losers/winners finals, and unnecessary anyway since random Holy **** things just don't happen in Brawl, and so don't need to be accounted for with extended sets.

I put that there because more than one person has intuitively assumed it was best of 7 and that winners and losers finals were best of 5. I'm actually perfectly fine with best of 5, but I'm not one to fight intuition either.

Ask me some time about the Blockbuster tournament and "random holy **** things" happening and costing me a match, if you haven't already heard the story anyway.

[Dr Drew the Dragon]

You could try the strikeout method of choosing the first stage, where you start with an odd number of stages, then have each player strike a stage til you're down to 1, which you play on. Seems to be all the rage in some places. Though it is a little more complicated than the current system.
