Temp ban is all we care about honestly.
We aren't asking that he be given some god-like impunity (though when it comes to smash he might have it, idk dude I have noooo idea how I can outsmart him the whole match. I understand his tricks and how to prepare for them only after watching his vids but every new vid surprises me.. :-) yeah). The point is:
1) Mods take their job too seriously and try and over-regulate people to death. He had fun on the boards and his trash talk made the boards fun. In case you guys haven't noticed
people like trolling and trash talk.
It stimulates more than just sitting around doing idiotic theorycrafting, then going back to training mode and trying to find true combos and percents. That's not bad, but knowing game mechanics is not what makes mango so freaking good.
2) His posts don't need to be productive serious or anything like that. gdi give him a freaking break.
The football analogy fails cause look at how many coaches and managers and commisonaers used to be players themselves. Going to a few tournaments doesn't mean anything at all. You dont have to be skilled at all. And I don't even know who this mod was, but it takes understanding of the region you smash in to understand a person's post. Regional zones are different; and if some EC mod who never got out of the house got offended by mango ragging on people, that's like.. just dumb.
I miss his posts.
And perma bans for continual trolling is stupid. You dont pull the president or congressman over for speeding cause they have important things to do (thats actually law). Bad analogy but point being, different players should be treated differently.
tl:dr mod who banned him was an idiot, let's have his name already and I want to know what smashboards can do, practically and measurably to get him back. Putting power on the hands of a bunch of randoms with infraction buttons is just dumb as ffffuuu
You say we take our jobs too seriously, but have no idea what actually goes on behind the scenes. I'm sorry, but there is no foundation for that claim. If the mods
really wanted to take their job to some absurd level of austerity, there could be 5x as many infractions given out as there currently are. But there aren't, and it's not necessarily a problem; many moderators use their discretion on certain posts and take a bit of leeway in dealing with posters. All of the mods and staff know this but posters like to assume we are more dogmatic and soulless rule enforcers than posters who have willingly accepted responsibility on the forum they enjoy visiting.
You say give him a break, but I am fairly certain you have no idea how many breaks and second chances he was given. There were several and he threw all of them away with flare.
The football analogy doesn't fail because
1) Not all coaches and managers and commissioners were
good at football, or had lengthy careers.
2) There are many good football players that made horrible coaches, GMs, and were even banned from certain accolades because of their behavior. Pete Rose and baseball immediately comes to mind as another sports example.
Different players should be treated differently is a horrible model for a site as large as ours. Who is to determine which posters are to be treated differently and how are they to be treated differently? Opening that doorway would lead to such turmoil and chaos because it arbitrarily favors certain posters who, themselves, are classified arbitrarily.
All of the mods chosen on SWF
were respected and contributing posters[i/], they weren't random people on the internet that were grabbed and forced to moderate on this site despite having no interest in it. They are volunteers; if they didn't care about the site they would resign (and many do, if they feel their interest waning). Waving your hands and saying they are all idiots because they are enforcing the rules that you agreed with doesn't make much sense.
