I always treat the matchup like I was fighting Marth, but I would lose. I know the damage area is at the middle of his blade, but still, I'm clueless in this matchup

Little help here guys?

Roy has a pretty distinct advantage over Peach in that all of his knockback trajectories can set up for almost any combo. He can also forward-throw chain you to death if he's quicker than you.

I've never personally done the matchup, but since Roy's my secondary I've studied how to beat Peach with him, and here's my two cents on the matchup:

Stages in your favor: Pokemon Stadium, Kongo Jungle 64, Corneria, Mute City

If he plays aggressively, your best bet will probably be to turnip spam and wait for an opening, his range can beat out most of your attacks. If he has you in an aerial chain, mash neutral air when you're not DIing. If he's approaching and you're on the ground, crouch cancel a down-smash.

Edgeguarding him isn't that tough, just turnip spam off the edge and then edgehog. If he misses the turnips and looks to have a decent shot of recovering, crouch cancel a downsmash through his up+B.

For your recovery, just recover high, there's not much he can do about that.

Down-throw can lead to a lot of easy tech-chasing, since he'll never be able to recover in-air from it due to his gravity.

probably one of the worst matchups in the game, Peach just completely thrashes roy.

Roy just doesnt have the kind of speed to approach, the kind of combos, edge guards, etc to kill... not to mention his weight and falling speed make it just about as easy as pushing random button to combo him with peach. =/ His only viable kill moves are f smash and d smash and well... they just dont connect if you're playing smartly. They just arent reliable.

His basic combo starters are not only hard to get in, but nigh impossible to even combo with because of how floaty peach is.

Let not even get into how he eats turnips for breakfast.

He just isnt marth, and I wouldnt even fight him like marth, except when you try to approach.

To give you an idea about how bad it is:

I got 1 stocked by NEO's Marth.

He switched to roy and I 3 stocked his roy <_<

Listen to XIF and not Jihnsius. Just had to say that.

Also, his moves are easily crouch cancelable, DIable (or jump out if not sweetspotted since it doesn't really have any knockback to DI =/), and is easily edguarded and killed due to his mix of crappy recovery, weight, and falling speed. Plus, he is just a crappy character in general.

I gave my advice based on my knowledge of the matchup. If you disagree with it then go ahead and give your advice, rude remarks aren't really called for, are they?

When giving advice that's 100% inaccurate is the same as lying to someone. You can't give advice based on a matchup if you have never played the match up so you deserve every piece of flaming you get for you ignorance.

On the contrary, I have played the matchup, just from the other side. One of the key points in metagame is that in order to have an advantage over your opponent you need to be able to think like him, and thus I think my point in this case is more valid than you give credit for.

Reread my first post, but this time omit the first paragraph. What do you know, all the points are true! You're simply flaming me because I said that I think Roy has an advantage over Peach. An easy 0-death chainthrow seems like a pretty big advantage to me.

What peachs have you been playing Roy cannot 0-death chainthrow peach unless there's like no DI and they try to shield after every f throw or something mad stupid like that

Perhaps I should rephrase what I've said: Roy can chainthrow Peach just as well as Marth. If you DI up, you'll be flare bladed, forward smashed, or up smashed. If you DI down-forward you'll be grabbed again to repeat the loop. You can't disagree with that.

Marth and Roy have the exact same trajectory for their forward throws. They might be one percent different in damage (can't exactly recall,) but that close of a percent in damage would mean that the enemies' stun time will be roughly the same. They have the same frame data for IASA from the forward throw. They have roughly the same run speed. There's no reason it's not possible. Albeit, calling it a 0-death chainthrow is a bit of a stretch, of which I can admit wasn't correct for me to have called it, but the fact remains: Roy's grabs can screw Peach over. Instead of doing a forward smash or flare blade from the forward throw, if DIed up to avoid getting grabbed again, Roy can simply walk forward and up-smash, which can kill Peach from anywhere as low as 70%.

You're providing no factual evidence as to why you think I'm incorrect, you're simply being immature about the matter.

then you say roy chainthrows peach as well as marth can..thats worse.

Then you're calling people immature for saying you're wrong...hmm..

Good day to you.

Renth and XIF know what they are talking about.

They are just stating the disadvantages that Roy has in this matchup. It's not like they got out of bed and decided that is what the matchup is like. After years of Roys facing Peaches, the results prove time and again that Roy sucks against Peach. XIF and I listed the disadvantages Roy has against Peach. Read them over again and try to think about it and you will see this is a horrible matchup.

okay i was going to make a video showing why what your saying is completely impossible then i started working with it i laughed so hard. So making a video would be pointless

Okay:

Roy can only f throw chain grab peach if she does nothing but try to jump out/

If Peach DIs away and up or away and down you cannot get the grab again.

If Peach just DIs away you can get the grab again maybe once or twice but no ones that stupid.

If Peach DIs down she can tech and if she techs away you can't get to her in time.

You cannot tech chase with down throws because peach doesn't even need to tech she can jump out and float away before roy can do jack ****.

up throw flare blade works but is completely useless it does very little damage and peach can n air and hit roy right after the hit.

i tried all of this at 0% and slowly worked it up even at as low as 15% makes it from harder to impossible.

Peach Vs. Roy:

Roy has no chance of winning unless the peach sucks. By sucks i mean is a kid trying to play with his teeth instead of his hands. Don't try to give people inaccurate advice saying things that make no sense then saying things like Roy can CG peach which is completely impossible and as far as death grabbing goes is even more non-sense. Don't try to give people advice if you don't know what your talking about.

Roy can chainthrow Peach just as well as Marth.
I hope you weren't being serious when you said something that stupid.

Heh, a thread I have experience on.

Roy can beat Peach, if your someone like Neo, but Top Peach Vs top roy, I think Peach aint loseing.

The one true thing that can do serious damage to Peach is his F-B combos. at times you get sucked it if your DI is bad. and cant CC much if you alread got hit and did not do it before. And if you know how to DI, he should not be much of a problem. He is easy for Peach to combo, since I use my Up-B as my own tactic, I can combo roy in many ways. Though both players on the same level below pro or even semi pro, it depends on what the person knows how to handle the fight.

You cant just rush at roy, remember, even though Peach recks roy, he has more range than you do, dont think cause Peach owns the match, she has him pinned in all area, you will get caught with his F-B combos. Play smart, he has more range than you, you gotta be in his Face. Dont come chargeing at him thinking your attack is gonna hit. That is one reason Peach players have trouble with Roy, cause of his range and they dont think about it. Learn how to deal with it, which is not hard. Use turnips, he cant do much about it. His F-B is what I worry about the most. Is hard to move when caught with it.

His air game sucks, FC pwns him. His attacks are not hard to DI and he lacks kill moves. he only has his Fsmash and Dsmash. Whith good DI, his Fsmash wont get you killed easy, so dude gotta work twice as hard.

Edgeguard on roy is his own death. its not hard to keep him out. Turnips for the win.

FC combos for the win. Peach air game > Roy air game

these vids are kinda out dated. but here are many vids of me righting roy. watch why I got comboed, what I did, and what I did to roy to make it a pain. Hope this helps.

Just CC dsmash. Seriously, I've owned CO's best Roys (aside from my own, I'll never know how well I'd fair against myself, unfortunately) just by doing that. Works with Sheik, Samus, and any other char with a decent CC dsmash. Roy can't do ANYTHING if you CC, no joke. He gets RAAAAAAAAAPED.

Xif i want a peach roy next time i see you.

...So in 5 years.

Xif's right though peach vs roy SUCKS for roy. One of Peach's easiest matchups, and one of Roy's hardest.
it's gonna be hard, dood. i've done it a few times, and it's hard to get in edgewise with peach. i fully agree, one of Roy's toughest matches in the game. Peach and Samus ftl... :(

Yea Rockin. U shouldnt be losing in the first place. Every attack u have beats mine. Crouch Cancel beats my whole game. But being u do that no matter what character i have. It was easy. The prob was u are too easy to read. U CC dsmash when i run to u. If u have ur shield up u sidestep dsmash. If i get near u u dsmash. Too simple. Be glad i didnt counter u in the face lol. Stop being scared to approach.

Look at what u did here.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with Ninja Link here.. You aren't losing because it's a tough matchup for Peach. You're losing because he's reading you like a large print book for the elderly. You really need to be less predictable if you want to win against people that your current strategy doesn't work on. And you also need to read what your opponent is doing to you better.

I always figured that the moment I read the first page. My mind reading sucks at times (kinda all the time, really) and I'm quite predictable. At times I try to mix it up, but no matter what, still predictable at times. I always keep thinking I'm facing a Marth when I'm not, really...=/

I'll try a lot harder in the matchup.

well... not much is gonna teach you other than repeated **** by the same strats. Thats the problem with focusing on tech skill instead of mindgames.

someone who tries to improve their mind in matches:
"Oh, I got hit/tricked/owned by something my opponent did, or failed-at/punished-for something I did. Let me try something new since this does not work."

someone who tries to improve their tech skill in matches:
"Oh, I got hit/tricked/owned by something my opponent did, or failed-at/punished-for something I did. Let me tighten up the timing/spacing because apparently it is something in my technical skill that has failed, since what I did should always work, or what my opponent did should never work."

what happens is that sometimes all the tech skill in the world doesnt help in some situations. You can go as fast as you want and space it out as much as you can but some times it just doesnt work, and people who dont have mindgames are just stuck in this infinite loop, where they dont realize their mistakes to be fundamental, but to be a mistake in execution.

I have no clue why you think your fighting Marth like that for. the only think they both have is range, thats it. Marth has more power from distance. Roy has it up close. But they still have more range than you. And the only attack that can give Peach trouble is his F-B If anyone should be asking for advice on this match up is Roy players. I told you what you can do against Roy and how Peach beats him. Look over this thread again and all everyone has told you. Also watch My Peach Vs NinjaLink. We have alot of Peach vs Roy up. That can help you as well. If your not forced to learn what you are told, nothing is gonna change and your wasting your time

One big 'DuH' to rockin. Still dont understand why ur fighting them like marth. Weight is completely different................dont even kno why ur tryin to help with the matchup. Theres only like 2 roys ur gonna fight in ny that are serious about it. Before u worry about matchups u should worry about ur tactics in general.
