Arizona is a scary place in terms of insects. Not Africa level, but definitely has some scary things going on. They make this high pitched screech, kind of like the mosquito ringtone mixed with a banshee wail.

So glad I live in Finland where half of the year the place is filled with mountains of snow and barely have any life. At least I don't have to deal with bugs.I guess I have some kinda fobia or **** against them, but I really freak out when I see some bugs :s

You get used to them, but then I for one get pissed off when I check my sheets for scorpions and people think I'm high. In Az it's just kind of second nature to check for them in your bed/pool/shower every day.

And I pretty much freaked out when I found a wasp on my bed, WHEN I WAS ON IT. Damn I couldn't even sleep that night. Tbh I don't mind **** like Snakes and Scorpions, but it's BUGS. Somehow I just kinda fear bugs. There is no logic behind it, but those things are nuts.

I don't really ever see scorpians or centipedes on my side of AZ...there are always a bunch of jackrabbits in my backyard though. They steal my pet bunnies' food. I guess sometimes I see wasps.

I'm on the lower part of the Rocky Mountains and we have some bugs but fortunately not too many and no BIG ones.

I don't like icky bugs such as earwigs, scorpions (we don't have here), centipedes, spiders etc and have no problem killing them (pacifism be damned, it's 'make my day' when it comes to bugs). They rarely bother me though. Wasps hurt but are avoidable.

I am kinda weird in that I really am afraid of bugs, but I still find them cool and interesting. I also feel bad when I hurt a fly, I always regret it when I kill a bug :(

Now THIS is like my biggest nightmare. When I go outdoors, find a rock, flip it over, 9000 of these are crawling everyone and I kinda freak out.

Damn you bugs :urg:

Its funny that I just said this because I just got stung/bitten by something like...five minutes ago. It hurt a crapload and now I have this welt on my foot... I didn't see whatever it was though...

Slow internet sucks, especially when playing wifi with sluggish internet. I still remember having 1 frame per second matches with a sonic player.

Good stuff Oz;).

Just because Princess Peach has had pre-marital [censored] with... [censored], it doesn't make her the D-air queen.
Thank you. I hope to bring new material soon.

Hahaha.

I am SO over this debate. But since you asked, Smiley:

You're over-thinking it. Of course edge-hogging is an important part of this game, and in many matches can be the only way to get rid of stocks.

The reason why it is different than landing a smash attack is because that's what the entire game is about, is landing moves. If it were called Super Ledge Grab Bros, then I would probably have a different view on edge-hogging. I don't look down on anyone doing it in a tournament setting because that is expected, because nobody else would do any differently for you, and you're trying to win. And GW needs to get more wins so he moves up, I'm all for that. Honestly Marth is about as lame as edge-hogging IMO, I just hate him. ANYway.

It's just a matter of how it FEELS. You're searching for the logic in something that is just felt, something that just inherently is. It's like this:

We (GW), are small, we are fragile and we are weak, but we are sheisty and fast. (Bear with me), the opponent (marth) is huge, muscular, has bones as hard as iron and has won many more competitions than us. So we knock him to the ground and start kicking him repeatedly in the head and groin because we know that that is how we are going to win, that is our only chance. Is it honorable? Probably not. Is it necessary to win? Yes. If we fought a fair chivalrous fight we would most likely just get out-classed and KO'd. In my opinion, edge-hogging is comparable to kicking a man while he is down. It is essentially the same thing really. The only difference is that boxing or MMA have rules and regulations and Brawl really doesn't.... soo kick away. It is effective and legal, so by all means we must do what we have to do.

In personal matches against my good friends? I will refrain. Hell I feel bad even spamming b-air! Is it our only approach move? sort of. Does not spamming it inhibit my gameplay? Yes. Oh well. It is just what I do when I'm trying to play an honorable and chivalrous match. That's all it is. Competitive brawl doesn't give two rats ***** about all that though. Which is why I must also learn to edge-hog, and to short hop spam b-air and all our other shenanigans that would otherwise upset friendships. (lol, like Mario Party).

In short. It's a matter of gentlemanly behavior, IMO, and in the opinions of most of the people I brawl with.

I truly believe that it is just a random attribute of the game that only one character can grab the edge. Having more than that be able to would just not make sense anyway. So hogging that edge can and certainly IS a way to get rid of stocks, but is it THE way that the game had intended for us to get rid of stocks? I honestly do not think so, and all the "Sakurai put it in the game for a reason" arguments will not phase me. I believe smash attacks, spikes and strong tilts or airs were the intended way for us players to reduce stocks. Edge-hogging is just strictly "in the game".

I also would like to clarify, I do not think edge-hogging is anywhere near as lame or cheap as chain-grabs. They are both similar in that they are ungentlemanly, but aside from that chain-grabs are obviously exponentially more lame and cheap. The reason for that being that not every character has one, and grabs are super hard to avoid (IMO).

Anyway, I'm done with this discussion.

I wish I had a cool bug story.

Hi:bee:. I really can't tell if the top comment was trolling or not, lol. Either way welcome :).

I know metagame advancement is at a relative standstill for these boards, but I do not believe that everything has been discovered or applied for this character. Like I'm pretty much the den mother of the D3 boards and I've still managed to make discoveries and informative topics even this year. And D3 is considered as linear as you can get. I want to see more topics and the like being introduced or reintroduced to these boards. As long as I'm here, this place isn't staying stagnant. We need an overhaul and that "new car smell" here.

Thoughts?

Any topics, you feel we should delve into?

I'm here for a reason people, and its not just to socialize and ask questions.

Sniffle.. I brought this up about 2 months ago. I for one am completely with you. I was trying to find my post that said basically the same thing, but I got lazy. I've been saying we need to advance it for a while, which is one of the reasons I started the Matchup Threads.

But also, there aren't a lot of AT's to begin with, so any could potentially make a big difference.

^heh heh.

It's not as inspiring as going on a winning steak but nice soapbox speech. A problem is there aren't many active G&Ws who play at a pro level that would let them properly explain MUs and G&W's tactics. At least a few people, myself included, are relatively new to him :/ . I don't want to throw out information blindly because that actually hurts progress.

Lets talk about this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlXydCjTm_0&list=FLFKtT7LeAS3LJhS2VraZbKA&index=2&feature=plpp_video

(B-reverse platform cancel)
-what is it/hows it work
-how to perform the action

It works by getting momentum off of the b-reverse and bouncing off of a platform, giving a second jump. The main use in my eyes would be camping since in theory it could be infinitely repeated.

For those who don't know, it's at around 1:38 in the video.

When it gets reversed off of the platform, you can jump in the air afterwards. Watch the video and count how many times he jumps, it took me a few times, but it's 3 jumps.
If you use the new jump to repeat the b-reversing (probably wavebouncing works as well) you can stay in the air on the end of a platform sending bacon out.

(mostly inactive forms :( )

If chef was a better projectile the tactic would be better. The only practical use I see is what Vinnie did: use chef for a quick attack while retreating offstage or off platforms in general. The only special thing chef does is flips out a few projectiles but G&W's other moves seem like better options. Like run or drop off platform> 2nd jump Nair/Bair/Fair depending.
Unfortunately the food projectiles have low priority and most attacks (ironic wording pun alert) eat them. A few attacks are more vulnerable to 'range' attacks like Fox/Falco's sideBs or it could be an anti Pika/Luigi sideB missile tactic because food stops those.

To be frank, IMO besides a mix-up (and G&W needs all the mix-ups he can effectively use) the chef tactic isn't the best option in most situations that it could be used in :/ .

After fooling around with it for like 2 weeks, I found another important application.

*MK spawns*
*I go to the ledge and double jump b reverse bacon*
*I fall really deep and I do a jump nair to cover myself in case he chases me vertically*
*I up b back safely*

It keeps you 100% safe from an invincible spawning metaknight :).

The best way to use it is at the ledge, double jump b reverse bacon to (another) double jump to nair.

So it's good for retreating and avoiding. My only problem with this is that to get momentum (right?) so you have to get close to them first. Especially against Meta Knight, I feel they could just hit at that time with Shuttle Loop. It is still a good technique to have available as an option.

What do you guys think about Hammersliding/Baconsliding?

Synchronicity timed to the minute...

Something about that feels unnatural for me yet it's happened more in the last half year than my time on SWFs before. I'm on here too much.

shuttle loop shuts down practically every move in the game:urg:.

Its good to have mix ups but the hammer/chef part and G&W's trait that he slides very little take away most non-mix up value. :c

He actually slides a pretty good amount, it can also be reversed to act as an edgeguard as well as hitting people below you (like under the lower BF platforms)

This is very interesting but I'm struggling to think of general situations where I would use this AT, aside from maybe the extremely specific one that you mentioned, Vinnie.

Something that I have been desperately trying to work on getting into my muscle memory is a short hop chef reversal. It's probably not all that effective or anything but it seems like it would have potential to be a totally mindgame sort of move. Leading up into it would make the opponent think your doing a short hop b-air, but then you pull that move instead... Which... yeah. probably wouldn't be any help if they were expecting the short hop b-air, but still it looks cool as ****.

I like footstooling people when they think I'm going to bair them, and then get the guaranteed dair out of it.

Probably doesn't work against high level people, but it's still pretty funny.

I wish people here would predict those kind of things, but then again, gaw is pretty unpopular around here, and theres a considerable lack of knowledge for most of the part, so they wont expect B-airs from me.

It actually has a lot of uses in-battle. When I told ANTi about it last night, he was like "try to use it in-game, I bet you can't" and every time I used it, I was either 100% safe and didn't get anything out of it, or I would actually hit him with bairs/nairs because of it.

It reverses the momentum you currently have so if u are dropping at a 45 degree angle to the right after b reversing you will be dropping at a 45 degree angle to the left

That's what I understood from messing around with it this morning, I may be wrong tho
