Yes, they have, but most of the recent projects ended prematurely, and what the MU was like in 2010 is not going to to be the same as what it is now.

Nobody will pick up GW

Not because info on him is hard to find, but because he doesnt have spiky hair and a sword.

Our character just isn't popular. The only people who will pick him up are those that need an aerial character for RC and Brinstar and most of them will just go to Wario or MK because they are better. Or Marth because he's linear like GW but good.

I'm being so serious, when I say nothing will change. If it bothers you that much I'd just develop your secondaries. I'm down to try another Matchup thread but nobody cares about GW because nobody uses him. AZ just has a lot of Gdubs, most regions don't if any

Why are Wario and Lucario even above gaw? They have trouble killing (not so much reguarding Wario with his fart and Up-Air), and gaw's aerials are all good.

I know AZ is the GnW state, but I almost stopped playing him solely because there was nothing about him and I had to learn it all by myself.

I don't care if we do a Matchup thread or not, but we need to do Something. We shouldn't abandon working on GnW just because there might not be many people interested in it. We might have picked a 2d character, but we don't need to have a 2d board as well, we can give it some depth.

This really smart guy who knows a lot.
Also I think it was because G&W's approach options are predictable, he has problems killing reliably and bad matchups against the top tiers especially ICs and Marth

Played this character quite a bit yesterday. Ended up upthrowing most of the time since I suck at tech chasing now and uthrow most of the time gave me an aeriel that leaded to a juggle so it's pretty cool.

The MUs now are the same or worse than they were in 2010. Probably worse. G&W is really fun and more people should play him, but people just won't because they are gay and like man dongs.

I didn't realize there was some epic dirth of people who play Game and watch?

Anyway, yeah getting stuck in 2010 meta-game is no good. Of course GW is predictable on his approaches, but he's got a lot of tools under his belt really...

But crying about how we're not engaging in metagame isn't actually furthering the metagame. :p

F-tilt, chair - I think it's awesome. It seems to have tremendous priority, great disjointed hitbox and a decent range. I've been using it a lot more lately. I think both f-tilt and u-tilt are severely underused and can combo really well out of b-air.

Ftilt is butt, and I used to use it a lot because it is really cool, but then I realized how much more damage and how many more setups I could get from using moves like dtilt in the same situation. I still use it to randomly kill people near the edge though, nobody ever DIs it right.

Fsmash is always better than ftilt. Same thing with nair for utilt except for low % against fastfallers.

Because most of GnW's approaches are easily telegraphed, would doing an airdoge into a turnaround grab/dtilt/jab work as a mixup from the oh so common bair?

Yeah. A basic 08' one is turtle cancelling (LMAO)

You just act like you're gonna turtle and land in the early autocancel frames so the turtle appears but there's no hitbox.

Then you can just grab the opponent. It's funny because it was going to "revolutionize the way GW was played"

Spoiler: it didn't

If you're willing to start and finish a MU thread, going through all of them, or at least the ones that matter. Like... C tier and up maybe, then I say go for it. I'm sure there would be people who would give their thoughts and help you out with each MU, me being one of them.

I disagree. That's the commonly accepted perception of f-tilt, I reject it. The hitboxes on f-tilt last much longer than d-tilt and it is a less predictable move, not to mention its knockback is better (IMO). Also my main use of f-tilt is out of b-air which either d-tilt or f-smash just can't do.

Fsmash is always better than ftilt. Same thing with nair for utilt except for low % against fastfallers.
F-smash is great and all, obviously, but it's a little more avoidable than f-tilt, the smash frames make the other player more cautious and they may not approach. Obviously there are situations that f-smash is superior in basically every way, but I still maintain that f-tilt has its uses that can't properly be replaced by other moves.

Also, u-tilt, the reason it is good? Because people expect a jumping n-air and they may air dodge it and punish from below. If you're not charging u-smash, G&W looks pretty harmless just standing there because on the ground he's not known to have a great u-tilt game, well more often than not I find people landing almost on top of me, either with an attack that has less range than u-tilt or out of an airdodge where they expected a N-air. Time it right and up-tilt can throw you into a u-tilt combo. I rarely have ever only landed just ONE u-tilt at a time. Not to mention as I've said before - keep it fresh, if they're at 150 or so it can really catch them off guard and take it down a stock.

AZ a G&W state?...I guess. I mean...3.5 G&Ws...it's understandable.

Having a bad approach isn't really that big of a deal, just don't approach, make the other person approach. You can do that in most matchups. But when I approach, I usually don't use bair. I think you should mix things up, and be unexpected. Dtilt, dair, jab, grab, nair are fine if used right. I also like using dash attack if they spot dodge a lot.

And Meow, I think you should go ahead and start some MU threads. It'll make this board seem less dead.

And also, not all MUs are worse then they were thought of as. Snake was thought of as our worst matchup at one time.

Edit: And I personally feel that ftilt isn't really that great. I think dtilt can be used any time ftilt can be used, and you can get more out using it. I have accidentally used ftilt and gotten away with, but I still prefer dtilt and fsmash.

Just some insight from me.

...and don't lose the lead.

I picked G&W because I like spacing oriented characters and needed someone for DDD etc or if RC is CPed. I also don't like to fall back on high tiers but G&W is almost a mid-tier so meh.

I like the chair as a weaker ground version of Fair. Fair can get stale when trying to KO and Dtilt doesn't KO except as a ledge guard. Fsmash can be hard to land vs the fast little characters.

Well it definitely can't be used out of b-air so there's at least one example.

In order to do that you would have to land b-air, turn around and then pull a d-tilt whereas you can just buffer a f-tilt out of b-air in whatever direction you want.

You can just hold to the direction and you will land facing the other way, then just dtilt. Ftilt is hella laggy, whereas dtilt's cooldown is much much less. It's also much safer on shield.

The first page is posted, now are we going to discuss everything in the thread or should I make new threads for each character as they become discussed?

I'll have to do some studying but I don't think it's faster. I will research this. Also, yes the cool down is much quicker, but that's not as important as start up IMO.

Had a Brawl tournament earlier today.

There was a character lock and I had to stick with gaw through the whole tournament even after three MKs. ): The last one whooped me 2-0. ))))):

People keep posting here multiple times a day and I'm not sure how to deal with this.
I post here a lot personally. A lot of my day is spent preoccupying myself with some form of screen (My phone when i'm out and about) and now that i'm older and stuff i only go to facebook and smashboards so I spend a lot of time on the site somewhat inadvertently

That sucks. The answer to all fighting problems in Brawl: Choose MK :glare:

Any character will do since G&W is terrible. I suggest Marth since he is a quite simple yet effective character like G&W and has much better MUs.

I'm looking for a secondary. Any suggestions?
Ganon.
You never said you wanted good suggestions.

If you're not into high-tiers than Wolf can be a good secondary with G&W. Wolf has even or almost even MUs with Olimar/Marth/Falco and a 4/6 or 4.5/5.5 disadvantage vs MK which is decent. Snake's hard but doable.
CGers like DDD/Wario/Pika/etc can be ultra cheap to Wolf but you have G&W already for those.
This pair obviously won't solve all your MU problems but if you want to take the middle road they cover each other well.
If not, go MK.
