That doesn't change the fact that he's able to KO reliably, though.

It's like saying MK can't kill because I can block his KO moves.

G&W has a very hard time landing anything that kills. I used to be able to get em at about 100% with dsmash, but now it's fair well after 150% that does the job. Not cool. The better you get, the harder it will be to trick your opponents into those smashes.

So true. Even worse is if they manage to trick you into using them a lot too. G&Ws moves generally are very slow and the best option most of the time is to just gtfo with upB :(

Do you even know what "Reliable" means.
GW Doesn't actually have that many really reliable kill set-ups

My smashes are awesome yeah but I get most of my kills from edgeguarding and Fair OOS

You will land smashes the first few times you use him but as soon as you start to use him too often people figure you out. It's why I used to use GW SOLELY in tournament. People never got a chance to adapt... but at the same time he was stagnant and not improving so I started using him in friendlies and stuff.

I pick up characters to understand them better. For example, I only use GW in tournament, however, I can also use Snake, MK, Falco, Marth, Dedede, and wario. And now I'm starting to pick up on Olimar and ICs. It helps more than people think.

Btw. Does anyone have tips for the ZSS match up?

Okay, really, his smashes are slow?

Sure they can be predictable and easily avoided once people learn the match up, but in the entire game of Brawl, can it be said that G W's Down smash is really slow? It's really spammable and has a surprising reach, not to mention simultaneously hitting both sides. It can be used as a bait.

I mean, I understand he's not top tier or anything and there are probably a few other characters with faster smashes. But faster and stronger then GW? Probably not many.

His up smash is arguably the slowest and most punishable. His down smash is somewhat punishable but I really think that is a pretty fast move. . . His forward smash is moderately slow but the flame almost negates that fact.

Now whether he is punishable and easy to read once you get used to him, that's a different story. But come on, down smash is a great move.

What kind of edgeguard?

Also, I don't spam smashes. I try to mindgame people into them. And by that I mean running straight to the opponent like an idiot and throwing the up-smash. :awesome:

That's exactly it. He was good when people didn't know how to deal with his ****, but when they do he just can't get the kills he needs.

If you want those early kills, go play wifi, no one blocks his smashes there.

But Link's F-Smash's KO power sucks in exchange. :)

Besides, what's a 4 frame difference? :awesome:

Being able to land it =)

I Kid. Don't get me wrong, our smashes are good. But that's WHEN they land. And we have a few set-ups. Dthrow reads, Single Hit Nair into Dsmash stuff, Bacon frame traps into Charged Upsmash.

GW is a lot better on paper though then in practice. We can talk about the stuff that makes him awesome all day but there's a reason Vinnie uses ICs, and Alphicans wins tourneys when he DOESNT go GW.

I love the character to death but you have to acknowledge his problems before you can get to that next level.

Link's Fsmash has good power but not devastating. His Usmash is his weakest.

G&W really is a good character; it's hard for anyone below 'A' tier to compete. I think Zelda was 17 places higher at first then people learned how to play. G&W has great mobility, recovery and several good non-KOing moves like Nair, Bair and Dtilt. He can bucket break to partially make up for being light. G&W's still a high tier because he has good tools to work with besides devastating smashes. Zelda has a great Usmash, extremely powerful lightning kicks when (or if) sweetspotted, the most powerful Uair in the game and sub-par versatility moves like Nayru's reflector and Din's range attack. But she's the 2nd worst ranked character because, unlike G&W, she doesn't have good tools to work with.
It's important to recognize G&W has great strong points. It's these that keep him lower high-tier.

I've quit him before, lol.
Seriously, SSBB is a game: do what makes you happy. Some people stick with characters because they like them even though they lose often, other people take the competitive road. It's your choice.

I think it's kinda sad to change to a better character just because you want to win. I have a friend who uses MK and a few other Top tier characters just for this reason.

Winning is cool yo. Winning money is the ****

EDIT: I think it's kinda sad for people to main low tiers just cause they think they out skill their opponent heavily when they win, or they think it's cool to main them. At least people who pick up top tiers are honest about their intentions. Yeah I be hatin

Ice Climbers are too cool bro. G&W has a hard time doing anything, you need a good read for whatever you do with him. Maybe I suck or the character just sucks.

Didn't we go through this in the Canada thread?

Using a pocket MK just to win does tick me off, I admit. But people should just play who they want without having other tiers act like they know better. That's a two way street, lows can bug highs and vice versa.
If a person feels like they're selling out then they should rethink changing characters but if they like the higher character, there's nothing wrong with that.

Off the record of my statement, high tiers ARE better than low tiers so it IS harder for lower tiers to win and there's not much cooler than maining Link:cool:.

That was amazing. You're right. I do think I can outskill my opponent and stuff. But I do also use lower tier characters because I like them (See: Bowser and Yoshi).

I just play characters that are fun to use. For me that's G&W, Samus, and Sheik. It's fun to win, I guess, and I have confidence that G&W can do it even though he isn't the best character. Winning mostly depends on the player, not the character.

I use Gdubs because I love his character. I like Glass Cannons, Retro gaming, and off the wall characters so he's basically meant for me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with picking a good character to win.
