Hi guys. I re-installed homebrew and now I can't play PAL GC games on my wii anymore.

Can anyone help me with this?

Please and thanks in advance

Without knowing too much, i'm just going to throw out some guesses.

- How did you load them before? Get gecko if you don't have it.
- Maybe your TV can't display 50hz? Try putting on force PAL60 or hold down B while launching the games (no idea if hold down B works when launched with gecko)

I used GCBL, but now the screen goes gray. I tried a method to get around it that I read in another thread but that didn't work either.

I'll get gecko again and see if that works. Thanks

Oh, I thought that only worked for wii games.

Also I tried using Gecko OS, but it didn't work either. The screen would just go black

nah it works for gc games now too

sd remix yo

obv :048:

but yeah go look up how to run dios-mios-lite (sd) or dios-mios (usb) and install all that illegal pandora's box **** and boot it up with dios-mios-booter with force 480i (not pal60 because that would still be a pal signal, this is america brothers)

I didn't think about it that way (pfft Americans) but since most (if not all?) loaders differentiate 480i and PAL60, 480i would imply a NTSC signal.

you gimped me there tho

double post:

so not only did the video tutorial not work, but now I can't run any kind of GC games at all (including real discs) after installing the DIOS MIOS wad. I tried to uninstall DIOS MIOS, but it doesn't complete.

Anyone have a solution to this?

Edit: basically what happens when I try to load a game, it goes to a black screen and stays there

480i isn't even really a common name for NTSC and PAL60, it only says that the vertical resolution is 480 pixels/lines, and that it is interlaced. RGB is sometimes 480i, "Component" YCbCr as well, and one could construct an arbitrary number of signals that fall into the "480i" category, including digital ones.

@unknown522: Shooting trouble time?!

As for the freezing, did you change anything in the loader's settings yet? Also try removing all USB stuff connected to your Wii (you're using the SD version after all).

If it's still stuck, download NUS Downloader. Then package .wad files of System -> BC -> v6 and System -> MIOS -> v10. Put both wads onto your card.

Go back to WAD Manager, load up IOS 249, uninstall the DML .wad, reinstall BC and MIOS in that order. Then reinstall the DML .wad.

And you did format your SD card correctly, right? If it's not FAT with 64kb file allocation, it won't work.

Yeah. It's FAT32 format. Apparently the guy who made the video tutorial was having problems with the newest DIOS MIOS as well. It's probably just a faulty wad. He also suggested that I do the same solution as you said. I'll definitely try it when I get home

I feel like I'm almost there now. I installed DMLr58, and when I load the game with neogamma on either disc default, NTSC480i or p, the game loads and I can hear the game and my controls work. But the screen is black. If I have it set to PAL480i or p (which I assumed wouldn't work anyway), same thing except the game is in black and white, but the screen is constantly flickering downwards (same as before I installed DML).

Any suggestions?

I'd assume force Wii means to force the game to the Wii's video settings, so yeah, you probably want to try that.

What loader are you using? There should be a Force NTSC or Force 480i or hell, Force NTSC480i.

Last thing I can suggest is PAL60:

Screen will scroll but if you squint hard, you can set the screen to 60Hz from 50Hz. It'll work but be in black and white.

If you hold B to get the 50/60Hz screen to appear, "yes" is afaik always the default option so just press A. No need to be able to read the scrolling image/text.
And at least with PAL consoles, if 60Hz was the last state used, it will be remembered and the Hz select screen will appear automatically without holding B.

I can run PAL melee on my wii with DML just fine. I have the video mode set to automatic. After PAL launches, the screen scrolls asking if you want 60 or 50 Hz. The default choice is 60 Hz. Just press A. If this doesn't work, I don't know what you should do. :/

a friend of mine from Nicaragua (N0ne) helped me to get it to run on GCBL, but there's no color, using the 'B' prompt thingy.

I appreciate all of your guys help so far!

PAL60 is fully compatible with NTSC, besides color which use a different signal. That's why a TV capable of only one of these will display a good image, but without colors, if the other signal type is used.

Have you tried "NTSC480i" after you sent the screen to 60Hz using PAL60?

Might be worth a shot lol.

OMG, it worked! Settings was 'force wii' on neogamma, but I had to hold 'B' then say 'YES' to force 60Hz. The screen was black so I couldn't see the option, but I just had to press 'A' :/

I feel dumb now. Thanks so much guys.

I suppose I will try to do this in the future.
But my past attempts at hacking my wii have been wildly unsuccessful :/

OK so an NTSC TV might even give up totally and display blackness instead of scrolling the 50Hz image as 60Hz. Good to know =).
