Just going to say this:

If Pac-Man is in the game, I expect he'll be a sprite like Game and Watch (similar to the other Namco items shown).

He already did. It's the Balloon Fight stage. Balloon Fight isn't as popular as Pac-Man, but one of the game's key features is the wrap-around edges. Regardless of the chances of there being a Pac-Man stage, a Balloon Fight stage was always very likely to feature wrap-around edges. I don't think it means anything for Pac-Man, necessarily.

That being said, I could see us getting a maze stage in the Wii U version (Balloon Fight is 3DS) to compensate, so that both versions of the game have wrap-around stages.
Normally, I'd agree, but Mario Bros. is another game that had wraparound edges as a key feature. The Mario Bros. stage in Brawl, however, did not retain this. Sure, there could be any number of reasons why Sakurai would decide now was the time to put in the extra effort, but it does make you wonder.

Maybe if you get sent flying off the side by an attack, you'll still get a KO, but if someone just walks or jumps off the edge of the screen, they appear on the other side. It could be something that will apply to how attacks hit instead of just constantly being a wraparound idea. Otherwise the only way to KO someone is to knock them upward or send them flying sideways so hard they shoot up at a slight angle and eventually hit the top. xD

And I'm predicting he's going to look exactly like this:

As much as people may hate the new look, Namco is going all out to promote this new Pac-Man version. Also consider that almost every other character in Smash 4 has their current looks as their standard. Little Mac, for example, has his current Punch Out look, although he does also have an old retro one too. Yoshi got updated so he looks more like current Yoshi rather than a dinosaur, and Samus has her Other M look.

Not only that, but if he's just a sprite, there's... not much he can do. He can't punch, he can't kick, he can't jump. All he would be able to do is open and close his mouth. He would literally be a three-frame boring character. If Sakurai's going to put him in, he's going to make him interesting and balanced.

I say that because of the items and assist trophy also being 8-bit. The version of Pac-Man people like is the Yellow circle. Given the other Namco stuff and the fact that the sprite is what people remember, I suspect they'll go with the sprite.

(Why the hell does Pac-Man have teeth).

totally expecting (and kinda wanting, actually) the Ghostly Adventures version... a sprite version, as I said, would be impractical. Well, anyway, things are in our favor. Waka Waka for all the Anti-Pac. =P

because,... why not? lolz. Donald Duck has teeth too, ..lol. I'm annoyed with this teeth thing already.

Pac-Man Party / Street Fighter X Tekken > Ghostly Adventures > Classic > Hanna Barbera / Pac-Land > Pie Chart

is my final verdict. My preference for Pac-Man's Smash appearance is in that order.

Street Fighter X Tekken is the hybrid between Party and G.A.; ... I like, but got used fast with his current design. =) .... and I'm sincerely hoping that, at least, he has a taunt that show his teeth... man, I'll have fun with him ONline. =P

I need to do more hype montages; =P.. I'll work in something on Sunday, I guess; there's a bunch of new content to use. XD; Soon, my montages will be just silliness next to the official ones. =)

D=... sorry, but this is terrifying, seems that he has no eyes, just two holes instead. For make his classic "Mickey Mouse" eyes, need better polishment. :T

Wow. I saw those screenshots with the Galaga enemy AT and the Flag item and pretty much though, "Dammit... Pacman confirmed..."
That and Sakurai showing the Namco Bandai building they're apparently working in. Congrats to you Pacman supporters. I'll still be mad salty about it though. Especially since we'll be getting that damn Ghostly Adventures design.

Unless Pacman comes as an Assist Trophy...:troll:

So here's a question for you: Since you're not really a fan of Pac-Man, how would you feel if you saw his trailer and he looked incredibly awesome to play?

I don't think Mega Man used a recent design but rather followed his NES-look, so a similar thing could happen to Pac-Man... or maybe he gets an original design for Smash which mixes up old and new? Then again, it's a ball with limbs, so it'll look pretty much the same anyway hahaha! Except for maybe the facial expressions.

Nowadays I don't really care what design they're gonna use for him. I've grown to like the Ghostly Adventures one too (which I really did hate at a point!). I just want him in the game!

Going back to one of my very first posts on my Pacman naysaying vendetta, I mentioned that if Pacman were to be announced, I would gladly eat my own words and accept it. Haha it looks to be the case here since the clues for Pacman have never been so much clearer.
If he looks awesome to play, I'll just have to eat my words, don't I?

It's good to see someone open minded. :D I don't understand the hate toward any character that makes sense, really. I'm not really fond of Chrom or Palutena, but I'd never say they were bad choices. They seem pretty cool, even if I don't know them or am as big of a fan as other people are. Fact is, Pac-Man seems to get a lot of hate, and I've never really quite understood it given he's one of gaming's biggest mascots. He may not be very relevant, but he's still important and recognizable.

So again, good on your for being civil. It's much appreciated. :D And I sincerely hope that if Pac-Man is included, his move set impresses people and gets the excited.

Honestly I just want Rayman over Pacman. But that obviously doesn't seem to be happening...
Well fair's fair after all. I can't go around denying Pacman anymore so I pretty much lost here. I said the same for Little Mac since I wasn't too big on him either. So congrats to you guys.
I'll still be salty about it, but there's no point in fighting for it anymore. At least it's not the Miis though. I hate the idea their inclusion more than Pacman...

I'm... torn on the Miis. If they're well done, they might be fun to customize and make them into your own perfect fighter. But my fear is they're going to be boring and generic. I dunno, Sakurai makes characters cool regardless of who they are. I have faith. :D

Rayman would have been a sweet addition too, man. I'll totally agree with you there.

Rayman is one of my favorite game series and I'd love to play as him. Don't think he really deserves it, but you know, neither did Snake, and it was awesome having him. I'm a bit more lenient with third-parties. As long as the big players get in (Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man), I don't care who else they choose. I don't particularly want anyone other than those three and Snake anyway.

I can live with Miis. I just don't like them at all and would be joyed if they never got in.

Mega Man, as most the characters in Smash, is using his most recent design/incarnation; Well, in the practice, here's the last Mega Man game (canon):

Now, another thing.. the redesign (actually, some touches in his basic look, in fact) was made by Capcom, and not by Sakurai,... and probably, not only Sakurai liked the idea of a NES-alike Mega Man, but Capcom prefers this way too... Now speaking about NAMCO Bandai, as we talked here, the current target of marketing is Ghostly Adventures, and they're putting Pac-Man this way everywhere they can (well, it's not something strange, after all, this was an entirely reboot, ... previous versions not "exists" anymore, kinda), so, besides to be pretty confusing change his design just for a ocassion; would not so smart for their part... specially considering how popular Smash is,.. keeping Pacster how he is nowadays for the game would help a lot his image.

But I'm sure that Pac will please all the tastes even with his modern look,... just taking Sonic as example. =)

I personally think that Pac-Man's biggest challenges right now are Dig Dug and Lloyd. That classic Namco representation that came out of no where really boosted Dig Dug's chances.

Nah, ... honestly, I never saw a chance for any other NAMCO character besides Pac-Man,... Is just impossible that NAMCO would prefer to be represented by any other minor character than their official mascot. lol. .. But I think that Dig-Dug (Taizo Hori) could be a AT, though,.. if the S-Flag actually works as we're expecting, bringing classic NAMCO sprites to the battle.

I dont think they have as much of a chance as pacman,They wouldint put them in over pacman he is there mascot.

I see Dig Dug' getting in mabe as an AT but nothing else.

I think lloyd's chances (if there were any) were tossed into the incinerator when the classic namco representation was revealed. Dig dug would be cool, but is still an inferior choice to pacman because of pac-man's iconic stature and the fact that he is the namco mascot (and namco seems pretty proud about this, especially when shining pacman's face onto the sega HQ lol)

lets all rememember, assist trophy characters in a third party's case, all come from the franchise of the implemented character, and pacman has been mixed with rallyX and galaga since forever. Pacman world series, namco museum, the list goes on guys

Just think.... Mega Man represents the classic Mega Man games... but he brought the other Mega Man incarnations with him through his Final Smash... and Pac-Man could represent the Pac-Man games... but he could bring the entire Namco Museum with him through items and Assist Trophies.

I know it's never going to happen, but if we could get Namco Museum as Pac-Man's stage or even an overall Namco stage, I would be the happiest person alive. I love those games so much.

So are we just expecting S-Flag and some Namco Assists, or does anyone think Namco'll get another item or two?

One minor thing if this Pac-Man represents classic Namco that means we don't have to repeat the 75m problem of trying to sqeeze several remixes out of arcade noises. We could get the Dig Dug theme for example.

What I'm expecting is the S-Flag, which may or may not summon more items than just the Galaxians, and an assist trophy for Pac-Man, either featuring the ghosts (most likely) or other Namco classics.

It's a pity that the intellectual capacity of Miiverse is too low to understand that reference. =P

To people who say Pac-Man has limited moveset potential:

In addition to obvious biting, punching, head buts, kicks, and the ingenious final smash we all know he will have...

Why can't he use his Mario Kart?
Why can't he use Dig-Dig's pump spear in his moveset?
Rally X remote controlled cars?
Gilgamesh's or Lloyd's swords?

Pac-Man could utilize ANY of Namco's relevant history with Nintendo in his moves. He is Namco's mascot. He can rep Namco as a whole.

You forget how creative Sakurai is. Look at Fox, Capt. Falcon and Little Mac.

I'm sure he'll think of something great for Pac-Man.

Also, an idea I had for Pac-Man was that he would have a offensive healing mechanic where even though his chomps and his other attacks would deal relatively low damage, the could also heal Pac-Man by around 2% depending on the length of the "combo" made by him. What do you guys think?
