Perfect, I should have it done quickly... But I've been seeing some new fan-made Pac-Man render on rosters lately, it's his newest design but with the classic eyes, you wouldn't happen to know where to find that would you? If not, I'll just use the render I already have.

Only a roster icon, so I don't think it'd be useful to you. I could get it for you if you want, though.

(Also, if you include Pooka, how about the one below? It was the one I was going to put in my signature. I'd be more than happy to see Fygar on it too, btw.)

The icon had to have been made from something though right? Do you know who it was that made it?

I already have the classic sprite ready to use, I'm not sure I can fit a Fygar on it though with what I already have planned.

Also, here's gameplay footage of Venom, for those that are curious.

Anyway, the main reason why I'm currently comparing Pac-Man to Venom is mainly because of the comparisons to the billiard balls and the Pac-Dots. In Pac-Man titles, Pac-Dots are a recurring element, usually being served as points or a weapon. For the latter, they are shot similar to a generic projectile, however for a mix of a familiar formula, I think having the Pac-Dots being momentum based similar to Venom's billiard balls would give Pac-Man an interesting form of gameplay that involves knocking the Pac-Dots around to confuse, approach, and space against the opponent. If you also want to take the concept even further, you could also involve using the Power Pellets that can power up Pac-Man but also has limitations that needs time to be properly executed, with said Pac-Dots allowing proper time to get Pac-Man set up. Basically, using your tools properly in order to get the most out of the character.

What exactly makes you people want pac-man in this game?
Why I want? Because I like him, and he's my favorite character of all the time... His games was the ones that most marked my childhood, he's so charismatic that I can't even say that I like Mario more than him (and damn, I love Mario as a character, and his games are examples of quality), etc etc... But, why he will be in Smash? His gaming status, and everything that you saw @ Bauske Bauske talking. =)

Love the idea. (Sorry I didn't reply before.) It fits Pac-Man especially well since his game's original strategy involved tricking the ghosts' AI to make them move in certain patterns.

Personally, I only want characters I believe are deserving, even if I don't like them (though I do like Pac-Man). I like having iconic characters duke it out. Pac-Man is unarguably the most iconic video game character not yet in Smash. This is why I want him.

Don't get the unnecessary hatred of Pac-Man.
People act as if he was in the game, his new design would be in it, or that he'd be a terrible character to play as and that there's better characters to take the slot. He's like the second coming of the devil it seems.

He's iconic even on Nintendo systems and deserves recognition first of all, second of all I don't think Sakurai would screw up Pac-Man considering the fact that he didn't screw up Mega-Man. I have faith that if Pac-Man is in it, he'll be treated with the same respect as Mega-Man. His moveset would be unique enough if Sakurai can manage it, which I have faith in.

Consider me a supporter.

I proposed the idea in order to give Pac-Man some sort of playstyle outside of the generic jack-of-all-trades type mentality. Basically something that fiddles with something different. Like I've seen some people mention Pac-Man shooting Pac-Dots akin to how he does it in the Pac-Man World games, but instead of going for a straight forward projectile, I wanted something that would emphasis a playstyle designed to trick and pressure the opponent, hence why I went to Guilty Gear's Venom for inspiration. One advantage to a type of playstyle like that is that you can also fiddle with other stuff centered around it, like the previously mentioned Power Pellet management but also other ideas like healing from eating the Pac-Dots or being able to jolt around the arena by homing on them and gain incredible mobility.

Just remember that if you think you're playing too safe, don't be afraid to think outside the box and if you reach a writers block look at other things for inspiration.

Also a tad unrelated, but I've also used Guilty Gear for comparisons for other characters, like I've made connections to the character Dixie Kong with Millia Rage.

How about also implementing the cherry bombs from Pac-Man World Rally as stationary mines? Heck, we suggested the same basic playstyle with summoning ghosts at one point, so we could use that too.

Awesome! Welcome aboard, man! It's good to have more supporters, and if he gets into the game, I think he's going to make a lot of people happy and a lot of haters change their minds.

I'm not entirely fond of Pac-Man with those eyes, as they look kinda soulless and creepy (now I know how people feel about the whole teeth thing), but I love this icon. You did a really good job on it! :D

Oh my god, I just realized that those eyes are basically little retroPacs.

That is awesome. Also, good job on the icon/sig/thing!

I honestly do like it, but could I ask for a huge favor? Seeing that Pac-Man at full size actually makes it look a little creepy to me. Would it be possible to use this model instead?

And honestly, I'd rather just not have the gif. Would it be possible to remove it? I'm sorry that I'm being picky. It's just that I'm particular about what goes in my signature.

I wouldn't have been able to do it if it was still a gif, so it's a good thing you didn't want it animated. Here's your special edition custom Pac-Man Party icon.

Well, the problem with both ideas is that you really got to consider the factor focus and balance.

Like for example, using the idea of mines. Typically a character that uses mines is a character that is is designed to set up hazards around the battlefield to restrict the opponents options and likewise give the user options to set up attacks. Snake for example has two types of mines, his down smash where he buries a land mine that explodes on contact and his down special where he drops a C4 that can be manually detonated. Both are designed to help compensate for Snake's restrictive movement, and a good Snake player can constantly pressure the opponent with mines littered all over the place. That's not even including the grenades and missiles, which add even more pressure.

Now basing the concept of Pac-Man having that playstyle I proposed with the Pac-Dots, Pac-Man technically doesn't need mines since the option of ricocheting the Pac-Dots everywhere sort of serves a similar purpose of setting up attacks and restricting the opponent, however you can still include the option if you really want emphasis the idea of making Pac-Man a character that stops the opponents momentum. Basically it's a "do you need it" type scenario, where it's based on whether or not it's necessary based on the combination of attacks and attributes.

Anybody who says they don't want a Donkey Kong vs. Pac-Man arcade grudge match is lying to themselves.

They were only released like a year apart, and between the two of them they absolutely dominated the arcade market for years (and etched their names in the video game history books). It's the old-school grudge match that people didn't know they wanted - move aside, Mario vs. Sonic. :p

Imagine if donkey kong was in his reveal trailer....
Donkey kong is out swinging across vines in the forest toward his banana horde, and we are then taken to a separate shot inside the banana horde where a familiar yellow figure is staring at the horde...Donkey Kong hears constant *waka waka* noises and rushes toward his horde faster. When he arrives, the yellow figure eats the last banana by throwing it in the air and letting it land in his mouth. Donkey Kong is furious and starts to rush up to him, but is sent flying when hit by a random cherry bomb. He gets up to see the figure in front of him and we see Pac-Man, with his signature thumbs up and wink pose. Then we zoom into a montage of awesome pacman gameplay footage. Afterward, we see Pacman and donkey kong shaking hands and racing each other into the forest to see who will get the most bannanas.

I would be totally okay with this as his trailer. xD I never really figured DK and Pac-Man to have a rivalry, but it's cool to imagine.

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but Pac-Man's chances have slightly increased this week. I just realize something, and maybe it's just me being stupid or paranoid (or both), but Namco is already getting some representation in Smash. Galaga Aliens are here, boy. There's really no way that a Namco property like Pac-Man isn't getting representation, especially if other properties are already making appearances. So, he'll probably be making an appearance, out as a character, we have yet to find out.

I disliked the idea of Pac-Man in Smash at first, but I've grown to like the idea. Here's hoping he's in.

Yeah, we've been talking about it like crazy. It's certainly still not 100% confirmed, but his chances have definitely risen considerably. Glad to see another supporter! I think if he gets in, he's going to surprise everyone with how he plays.

Something interesting. Even if they're not playable the Galaga ships should have Namco's trademark assigned, yet nothing is on the website. Maybe they're hiding it until something else is revealed. *wink, wink*

Well to be fair, the trademarks at the bottom of the page do specifically say "Characters," so since Namco doesn't have an actual character in yet, they're not gonna give credit. It'll happen though. ;)

Speaking of the Galaga ships (and the rest of those albums) were those a legitimate leak, or did Nintendo give the OK to have 'em up?

I think it was just a press kit of photos. They usually give out an extensive portion of photos and publications or sites only pick and choose certain ones. It's possible they didn't think people would make a big deal out of it or they wanted to throw a hint out. It's hard to say.

People, .. I was thinking... we're getting Smash4 on the 3DS in the Summer, right?... I assume that, at least, after E3; ... and we have in fact a little time to get all those reveal of veterans and newcomers that we expect (I mean, Wario, Cap. Falcon, Ness, Palutena, K. Rool, etc...) ... I see we getting a Direct (for general subjects) in the end of May, after the Mario Kart 8 release for one more newcomer in Smash; ... but E3 will be, I suppose, the last opportunity to show newcomers, before Smash4 be released on the 3DS and spoil the full roster (hence the unlockable characters, etc)....

unless the trailers continue to be released until the release of the Wii U version, even after the 3DS have spoiled the surprise; I think that we have the possibility of E3 be the place for a massive reveal of newcomers, and,... considering that the time of Nintendo's presentation need to be divided for talk about a lot of games, and not just Smash4,... a single trailer for several newcomers is a possibility (just like the Brawl E3's trailer, or as we got Greninja and Charizard together in one trailer).

How the heck could be this trailer? '-' .. I can't imagine how crazy could be,... I dunno... K. Rool attacking Palutena's Temple, while her and Chrom fight Pac-Man and Mii,... lol. I'm getting crazy with the possibilities. D=

I think there'll be one villager-esque trailer that combines a general trailer and up to two newcomers. Pac-Man would have his own trailer as he's third party and an icon.

Well, having Pac-Man separated of the general trailer would make sense, just like Mega Man (with the "challenger approaching" sign and all)... but, still a crazy possibility; ... and, ... two more newcomers? ... I think that would be poor, ... since we just have 5 until now.. plus 2 for E3 and Pac-Man, resulting in 8, would be a tiny cast of newcomers, imo. ...even if the final roster doesn't be so big.

For me, I don't think we're going to be getting a whole lot more character reveals. Maybe one more veteran between now and E3, and I think we'll get Pac-Man and possibly one other newcomer or a couple veteran there, but other than that I think we're done.

The game is coming out possibly in July or August on 3DS, so that means they want to save some of the characters as unlockable hidden characters. Right now, we've got nearly 30 on the website. That's a lot. Add about another five or so reveals between now and E3 and that could take it up to 33-35 characters revealed.

People keep saying we haven't seen Wario, Captain Falcon, Ness or a bunch of other vets, but I have a feeling they're going to be unlockables. But hey, I could be completely wrong.

As for Pac-Man, I most definitely think we're going to see him at E3.
