Just played fow's falco, it went 2-1 for me. I only used Pac once (Villager/Fox the others), and won that game, but he SD'd. I'm pretty sure he would've won otherwise. My pac game wasn't on point though, I could have played a lot better and I don't like this performance. I'll link it tomorrow.

When I asked him if he had any tips, he told me that I left myself open too much, that I ''just stood there'' too much, and that I should be more mobile. This is definitely something I'll work on. Anyone here has this problem too?
I'm the exact opposite actually XD.
I move around a lot with every character I use, and Pac is no exception. You just have to keep a rhythm. Try to trick your opponent with erratic movements and fakeouts with B reverses. Get in their head. It scares them when you move a lot.

Just don't be like me and waste your double jump on stage

Pellet shield. Pellet shield everything lol

That is one matchup that I have little experience in unfortunately :/
That was what I thought too; this doesn't actually work since Super missiles go over a grounded pellet and she can shoot them so that homing and super missile are right behind each other with one knocking the pellet down and the other going right over it. I lost almost an entire stock trying to find the "Right" way to pellet tank this one game before just giving up and playing a hit-and-run mid range game that seemed to work a "Bit" better.

She can also follow right behind her homing missile and punish me with a grab for trying to do this (Although admittedly this was rarely a thing this guy did).

Then again, I thought I'd played good Samus players before and this guy, H-man, whom no one had ever heard of, was on a whole other level. The guy damn near beat Shugo!

After playing him and a ridiculously good Link player who went by Katman, I'm starting to think we can't just pellet tank against characters with multiple good projectiles.

Anyway I'm getting to sleep now, but I should have a lot of replays uploaded throughout the week (Including some against 2 very good Sonic players, both sets going down to the wire, one of which ended when I stupidly SDed. This is a hard matchup, but no way a hard counter.).

Mehhh, just rewatched and it's not as bad as I thought, but I still did pretty silly things. Never played against someone of fow's level, so I wasn't used to getting punished for every unsafe things, and I had trouble landing (I always had trouble landing safely with every character, actually). Whatever.

At 26:30 is my fox, at 29:06 my Pac, and at 32:09 my Villager.
I have to say that I may or may not have been 100% sober, too.

Why is your signature two Australian football goal umpires and Luigi?

I was just watching australian footbal and found it funny because it reminded me of Luigi's victory animation at every goal. How do you put spoilers?
You watch Australian football?!

yay!

Who do you go for or are you just a casual nub watching sports?

You should go for Freo imo

[spoiler ] /[spoiler ] should do it, remove the spaces

That's the full image, but since signatures have to be small you don't see it very well. Couldn't find high res pictures of umpires doing that hand gesture though.

And no I don't lol. I generally don't watch sports, except sometimes hockey (I'm Canadian, eh) or the Soccer/Football World Cup and the Olympics. I was watching TV and randomly came across a AFL match, and I think it's pretty fun to watch, so I watched it a little but otherwise I don't know anything about this sport :/ Not even the rules.

Dammit I have spoiler problems. Don't know how to close it.
Edit: Got it.

I think I've had my best day with Pac-Man today. This character really excels at not letting the opponent do anything even remotely safe without falling into a trap.
Fought a great Ike, Shulk, and Link player. We really don't have problems against sword fighters as long as we don't try to play the spacing game with them. Link is easier now with his jab follow ups gone, and we have a much stronger and faster mid range. Our CQC beats his too. Pellet shielding only works if he isn't approaching behind his projectiles, and the hydrant can clear the way of his projectile spam if he tries to wall you out. I think I finally have the link matchup down pact. Guess it helps that my buddy is a link main

Ike is cake, Shulk is fun cake...

Today, my Pac felt amazing :4pacman:

Pac-Man main and a friend of 1fow1. He's accepting viewer battles and is a really cool Pac-Man main to watch even if you don't want to face him.
Yeah I challenged Piiff yesterday, but it couldn't work, so I'll see if I can get something going with him sometime. It's pretty funny because he actually shares my name.

Then once my friendlies with Katman get uploaded, I am going to need critique. While all the matches were pretty close, he was winning them in a matchup I thought I knew until I faced him (His traps were better than mine! I don't think regardless of opponent skill that I've seen an opponent match me in that domain. So many things I hadn't seen before.).

So my friends and I were screwing around with equipment when one of my friends Random'd to a very slippery Luigi, remembering that I had skater equipment on my 3DS, I made a custom Luigi and so began this great mode.

I realized why I struggle with Pac-Man in doubles. I play aggressive support style when I'm in teams, preferring to back my partner up whenever he/she is aggressive (need mobility, good dash attack or quick smash attack(s), and grab), in trouble (requiring good mobility / range) and going for combos off of my partner's aggression (requires mobility and works best with highly punishing aerials). Pac-Man can do this, but he's not the best at it with his lackluster overall mobility, lack of meteor smash / OOMPH aerial, and needing key to have a viable long range punish option. Charging to fruit also means not actively pressure the other team for control or helping your partner :(

Mario and Falcon fit my bill though, which is why I stick with them in teams.

Look at matches like this. Do you guys think Pac-Man is fast enough to keep up? Dynamic enough to convert off of things like Nairo does? In that match: Diddy is an all around good character, obviously. He's fast, has damaging aerials and smashes, and his grab leads to everything. ZSS is fast, has an up B that is an amazing air combo finisher, and has a dominant air game in general. Luigi is the slowest character in that match, but he generally gets the most reward off of anything, has the most muscle in general, and he has up B as a game changing move. How does Pac-Man keep up with stuff like that?

I really think it depends on who you pair him with and what role you try to make him play.
He is not overall as good in teams as I once thought, but some partners do make him incredibly effective. For example Pac/Kirby and Pac/Villager are solid teams that can compete at a high level. I expect Pac/Robin would too.
He may also work extremely well with characters who need to maintain distance/slow down the match as he does have tools that close off sections of the stage (Trampoline for example).

I use Pac as a stock tank character and in my limited doubles experience it is often myself who is last one standing. I am very defensive and focus on getting to key for its long range piercing punish. One thing I will say is that in my experience, PAC is incredible at 2v1. He can make situations very dangerous for 2 players to act mindlessly or in autopilot. Hydrant, tramp, fruit, kill throw, PAC really has a lot of tools to handle a 2v1 and I have been very successful in 2v1s against competent opponents.

Completely unrelated note, some of the fruit gushing effects have changed since the patch and I am still being surprised by some.
Anyone knows when the water has to hit the apple for it to come back at you twice as fast as you originally threw it? I need to get that one down and use it, because that is a super dirty trap.

You can also boost the speed and range of the apple by standing on the hydrant and timing your throw right so that it goes with the windbox. Basically turns standard apple into a faster freaky apple.

That needs to have music related to ice-skating or ballet and then everything about it will be 100% perfect.
EDIT: Also, I didn't notice until now, 42nd post. Heh.

I signed up for the Wii U 1v1 tournament at the all new Super Smash Con this upcoming August. I'll do my best to represent the glories of Pac-man at it. Got a lot of training to do :4pacman:

Pac-Man Museum on Steam has no windowed mode and it makes me FURIOUS.

Fun game, though. Pac N' Pal is actually more fun than I thought. Same goes for Pac-Land.

HOLY **** SUPER PAC-MAN IS SO FAST SEND HELP

In other news, I've been un-rusting myself lately. After being really disapointed with my preformance at Ontario Smash last week SD'd twice by trying to set up trampoline on stage I've tried to unrust myself because I felt like I did awful.

Watched Abadango, did some "screw around" matches, and I feel a bit back in the groove. Abadango's Pac-Man really is interesting to watch, I take notes on everything he does.

I'm having something of a crisis of faith on Pac-Man. It feels like as soon as people see past z-drop fruit/hydrant tricks that my play with the character falls apart. He doesn't have much reach on his attacks, nor much knockback aside from his Smashes which you obviously can't just go spamming.

I want to enjoy the character, but I can't tell whether he's seriously missing something holding him back from being a viable choice or I just suck with him. On paper he's super fun, and I want to enjoy him as a 'sandbox physics troll' who just does weird stuff to win. He has the tools for that; hydrant, trampoline, each fruit having different trajectories... but I can't put it together.

Does anyone have anything that might help inspire me to stick with him? As it is I find myself wanting to head over to other characters. Mind you, I'm not looking for braindead easy solutions; willing to put in the work, but right now I feel so hopeless when I use Pac against anyone competent. They get past my tricks, and his normal attacks seem so underwhelming.

Maybe you should head to the video thread I see the different playstyles of Pac-Man.

His tricks and traps are powerful, but he's way more than just a trickster.
With some of the best frame data in this game and great reach on his tilts, I don't see how his normals aren't doing it for you.

A lot of it is indeed Reach. People seem to be able to wall me out pretty easily, and the moves I can hit with seem to be punishable on hit at lower percents (f-air, n-air, etc.).

EDIT: Let me add to that. The other thing is I struggle to acquire fruits to z-drop on most stages. Even when I do get them, people seem to see past the tactic pretty quickly even if I mix in lots of other hitboxes (hydrant, aerials, etc.) alongside it.

A well spaced RAR Bair is safe on shield, and Fair is safe in shield with this tactic right here
http://youtu.be/0fNJlLfmhbM

And Nair shouldn't be unsafe on hit. There is low enough cooldown for you to escape after hit. Fair is unsafe on hit if you don't follow up with something stronger like a hydrant drop or Nair.
Just like Mario, our aerials were built with enough speed to escape if we get too close. We even have the aerial mobility to move in and out.

Z dropping can't be obvious. Don't try to just drop it on the opponent's shield and follow up, but rather try to push it at the opponent with the water from the hydrant, or try to catch air dodge with it.

I typically use the water to send my fruit at the opponent while I run ahead of it. This covers my approach.

Maybe I had some very wrong ideas about how some of Pac's moves work, then. Funny thing is my comments on which stages he likes probably remain accurate, but I seemed to have been missing a lot of other aspects about him. Well, thank you for the ideas @ Nu~ Nu~ , I'll give these a try later today.

Edit: Doing better. Still have some major gaps in my play but I am improving. And am still finding ways to troll (which is why I picked up this character to begin with). Things like getting opponent to KO percentage, letting them grab the edge, laying down a trampoline so they are forced into the air, letting them spend their air jump...

...And then they land on the key I had ready, waiting for them to become helpless like that. "(String of profanities) YES! *Fist-pump*" was how I felt after pulling that one off.

Edited Again: Turns out skills picked up from playing Ness carry over to Pac-Man. I'm doing a LOT better now. Still have much to improve on, but I took out a genuinely good (not great, but definitely good) Mario earlier and even scared him off his character; he fared even worse for doing so.

Thank you again for your help, Pacman9. I just needed a mindset shift in order to use him properly, it seems.

Ness to Pac-Man? Man I like your tastes. Ness is cool and BLUE IS THE ONLY GOOD COLOUR

Pac-Man's all about spacing and punishing. Use all your tools to rack up damage and maybe even KO. He's a fun character that way.
