@Spellman: I feel the same way. This online thing is an awesome bonus for me, not what the whole game is centered around. Icing on the cake, icing on the cake.

yea, yea, Like your not gonna even consider playing classic mode, just to enjoy it, or the sse or the event modes or that stuff right?
i'm obviously gonna play the classic mode, but i wouldn't even pay for it if it wasn't for the competitive aspect of the game. the whole series is centered around the vs mode. the classic mode is fun but think about how quickly any game loses it's appeal. the reason why melee is so popular is because people are still playing each other at tournaments and such.

it's not like people are still excited about playing the classic mode after 6 years of having the game, but i know i'm excited before every tournament i attend.

thats right, the wii cant support downloadable content. Thats why they come out with more DOWNLOADABLE games each week, and DOWNLOADABLE channels every once in a while, and in the near future, we will be able to DOWNLOAD complete, new games through the shop channel. (obvious sarcasm)
What I meant by that is the content that ISN'T channel related. Almost everything that is downloadable is channel related. Thats why the Wii can't support things like that.

It's still a multi-million dollar budget game, this game is huge, it will be the best seller. The least they can do is have a good online mode.
are you implying that it wont be good cause it isnt like halo?
Not an attempt to bash halo.
I dont know about you, but there is no one here that attempts to win, even when money is on the line.So try to be grateful we are getting a bunch of online stuff.Like:

Sending and receiving stages

Up to 64 friends, Which if your like me Is only gonna have 1 person that have met in real life

One random stage per day delivered to you by nintendo(It is gonna be full of *****es but why bother anyway I ask)

INGAME comunication which is a HUGE leap forward when it comes down to online.(with nintendo

Sending and receiving Ingame photos

AND most importantly:

A great game, That even without the online, would be great

edit:Why am I always late for posting?Oh well

I've never played Halo, ever. So no I'm not saying that. I'm saying that if the online play doesn't have rooms then it won't be good. (basically, I'm summarizing)

when you say rooms, what exactly do u mean? and what do they accomplish? i'm sure it's a good idea but i just need it clarified.

A room would mean I could say that I want...

All items except for fans on
1 on 1
Battlefield
4 stocks
No time limit

Then people can look for rooms, and when someone searches for my rules they can find me (or rules close to mine). You could also match rooms, where instead of having to find a room if two people make the exact same room they could get matched up. The great thing about it is you get to pick your rules. You could have only bombs for 18 stocks. You could have 1 on 1 match with only smash balls. It helps everyone because everyone gets to play by their rules, do you get it, or do you need me to elaborate more?

From what I'm gathering, it would be like making a room and choosing the game specifications that you wanted (maps, items, special brawl options.) Por ejemplo, making a 1 vs 1 vs 1 game to played at Smashville with only Bom-ombs. Then, players can search through a lobby for the game type they want. Everybody joins up, then they brawl it up.

I like the idea of that. Everything being random annoys me, especially skill level. I'm not Halo fan, but Xbox Live works really, really well for their game and I wish Nintendo could implement an online mode that with fit SSBB as well and Live does. Also, a ranking system like Xbox Live has would be nice.

Although, I like that I can't talk to the people I'll be fighting. As someone said before, the internet gaming community is full of jerks and punk kids who trash-talk way too much. I don't need the mess ruining my Brawl experience. So, if an "Advanced Brawl" were to happen, I'd be all for it.

..Whaa? In-game communication? I hope you're talking about taunts, because their isn't any other form of communication in the game so far (or so I'm led to believe), basically because the interweb is not for childrens.

Yea, I'm talking about taunts,And comments in the with friends mode ; Thats pretty much almost all the online features.4 taunts is enough to send a message. That, for me is online comm, something that other online games(on the Wii) don't have.

Also I'll say it again,
ROOMS ARE TRULY (for me at least) HORRIBLE.
God, if I were to summarize the time in which I spent rakion and gunbound this would be it:

:)

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

the smilie, would be the time I enjoyed playing

The mad guys are the time I spent trying to connect to a room that I wanted to play, But couldnt cause of the disconnects

While I do agree that "With Anyone" is better than it seems at first, it is far from perfect. I like that there's no leader boards, records, or identities. That's all fine with me. I actually like that.

But they seriously do need a ranking system. If everyone was ranked, that would ensure everytime you play online, you could play a fair, even match every time. And that would be AMAZING practice, especially for those of us who have a hard time finding a good match and are unable to go to tourneys. Think of it. Every match would come down to the wire. Every match would be awesome.

But instead, I'll probably be easily crushing random noobs half the time and getting crushed by random pros the other half.

The "With Anyone" doesn't bother me that much, I personally like playing 4 person games with items and don't really care about which stage I play in. Not to mention it's quick and easy.

However it would be nice to have the lobby and room system too as it gives everyone the option of playing whichever way they want without having to go through the trouble of going on a forum, asking who wants to play with you and then exchanging and entering friend codes.

@Danielman: Haha really? I've never actually had a problem with Gunbound rooms, although the last time I played was a few years back. I have to admit the community was really bad, but I just ignored them.

From what i've read on this thread not every aspect of online has been revealed yet so you never know, we may still get it (unless i've missed something). If it's already been confirmed that we won't and that "basic brawl/team battle" is all that we'll get for playing random people then oh well, what's done is done.

It's no perfect, but it's not crap either. I could make a long post about all of the flaws in play anyone, including the lottery rules and stages, limited to FFA and no name non-sense.

The main trick here might be the lottery system. If you have a mutual agreement despite not knowing the other players, you could potentially just put coins along the item switch and pick a tourney-esque stage and rules. Worst comes to worst, throw more coins at the problem to cancel out the newbie with higher odds. Not perfect, getting your way will be uncommon, but it's possible. I plan on racking up coins via the gambling system, I come from a long line of betters and can probably work out a bare bones system based on characters and stages. Finally coins have a purpose.

At the very least, this gives me the option to play against humans whenever I want, whether it's 3AM and I can't sleep after work or a weekday and a friend and I want to kill time before a movie by teaming up against people. That's the real perk of online for me, people, anytime, anywhere. The main problem with Melee and all online games, is that at some point you have an empty couch with everyone being busy or having moved on. I have friends across the states, and in flipping Iraq and Germany. I miss smashing with them, vice versa. Online gave us a way to play again. Now the option for random matches is a plus for times when no one is on, but I don't expect to live off it as a game itself. I'll spend more time watching them than playing them.

What I mean is:

Rooms may offer MORE options, But That means MORE time looking for a room, hoping you can connect, fail,Set room up,wait OVER 9000 hours for someone to arrive, THEN play.

NO rooms mean LESS options and LESS time WASTED wandering around.
AND I previously stated that I would rather play a SENTIENT being that sucks than a CPU that sucks harder. Also If you place several coins On X stage, and X coins on items OFF, you're going to play with tourney rules sooner or later, GOT IT

edit: this 'is one of the reasons I dont want rooms, they cause Uber-nOObs to go when mental when they take so long to play a game...

confirmed. Sending supplies.
I'm just hoping I can cut off and start playing after 1 challenger every now and then, not 3-4 players. Also, some sort of matching system to pair me with with someone around my skill level would be nice. It's pretty good as it is, but it COULD be better.

With more options, you could just hit *random* and you'd be all set. And wouldn't 1v1 be nice?

Who knows if it would be as bad as you say it'll be, not to mention a lot of people would be more than happy to look for or create a room in order to find the game they want. Even if it was a bit much for some people, the quick brawl option will still be there if you don't want to bother with rooms.

Meh, I just ment I'd rather bypass the rooms and get straight to playing. Its not like ZOMG ROOMS, ITS GONNA SUCK.Also I will quote Jurassic park: Life Brawlers will find a way

For example, if you wanted to play random people that are you're skill level, you could just make a thread where people PM you their friends codes, And you just add them not knowing if they're gimpy or some random nOOb.And if you like how they play, you keep them.

And I'm saying that in every game where there ARE rooms, there's always a "quickplay" option, so it would appeal to everyone instead of just kids who don't know how to play videogames.

So, basically, the idea of this feature is to allow you to play quick rounds of Smash Bros. against many real people without any real fuss or setup whatsoever.

I've given it a think, and I've decided: I don't NEED to know who I'm fighting. Hundreds of people are going to be playing every day! I don't care who they are! I can't be BOTHERED messing around in a foyer being subjected to insults from people I've never met!!
Hopefully more than hundreds.

Dude, you can't compare Rakion to other games.Rakion will basically kick you out if someone in the room is lagging or your lagging, which is why you have trouble connecting to rooms.

*edit*also the only reason you'd have trouble setting up a game rooms are:
1.People playing in other games
2.Based on your time zone, people may be asleep
3.No one is on

Those are really the most common reasons why it may take you awhile to get a game going using rooms.

Honestly, there would be nothing to lose from at least being able to see the names of the people you play. It would, in fact, be excellent if you could find someone online who's good and add him to your friends list so you could play him again. Additionally, it really wouldn't have been that hard to allow for 1 vs 1s online, and it's just illogical that Nintendo wouldn't implement it. I'll enjoy the game, but Nintendo isn't showing that they care about online, and you guys are making excuses for them.
yeah having a 1v1 with anyone would be great

I would have liked the names to be shown, that's all really. Maybe a record of wins and losses aswell.

But I don't mind that much, I'll probably just use 'Play Anyone' for a quick game here and there.

No, although random stuff is fun,What I want is to spend more time playing(online), then trying to.Besides the main problem I had with rooms was because you had to wait so d*mn long to play, even when you finished half an hour ago.

Comparing rooms to what we have seen, in a room,it could literrally take over 9000 hours waiting for everyone to be ready, which was my main problem with gunbound, besides Haxorx, and not being able to join a certain room, my BIGGEST problem with rakion.

Here however, things are quick and not so tedious when it comes to connections.Sure there is a random factor when it comes to HOW you play, but Considering how popular the competative community is, They arent astronomical. And if you want 1v1 play 2v2;There are team elements, But it is in essence 2 1v1 split in one match.Online tournaments will exist for the sole purpose of the competitive scene

Cant be done? Ever since online was anounced People have been preparing a system to play.Besides, the lag will probably interrupt the online tournaments, but, your truly eager to play that way, so go ahead.

Meh, pretty much, its not perfect, but it doesnt suck

All in all, I just wanna have fun, And maybe kick some ***

i like ur idea of rooms. also for those who disagree there would prob be an option to fill the first empty room.

i hope there is some sort of ranking system to show skill level. even if there is not u should be able to classify yourself as advanced or beginner in order to increase the odds of playing who u want in play anyone.

Whatever, all I know is that JUS, the smash clone for the DS, has way better online than Brawl does. The only thing better about Brawl is the CPU replacements.
