Oda's good at what he does. I would have never thought that I'd end up loving Dadan, but now she's one of my favourite side characters.

While Vander Decken doesn't seem to be strong enough to be this arc's bad guy, I think the satisfaction when he's beaten will have a properly large impact.

Small hole, looks nice though~
just watch ep. 499.

i dont remember the naguri guy in the manga, well OP tends to have canon fillers now but thats why i enjoy it...

edit:just read the latest chapter

I really don't take time to let the emotions sink in when I read a manga. If anything, I read them pretty fast, so overall I don't get emotionally involved from that perspective.

Then again, I don't think I've ever felt much from reading books...movies and anime are more impactful to me cause I have to sit there and watch the whole scene.

I probably would have cried if I wasn't at the doctor's office. When the princes started cheering up Shirahoshi is what got me.

Oddly enough, that's the exact same part where I felt emotional too. The dieing did nothing for me, but the signature part did. Pretty weird.

This did not affect me because the emotional magnitude of this scene is weak compared to some of One Piece's better scenes.

If it were in any other manga, though...

well I think everyone started reading this flashback mentally prepared that Otohime was gonna die anyway , so its normal that it didnt come as a surprise

if I had to mention the part that affected me the most , its prolly the one where the two princes try to sing to calm down Shirahoshi while their mom is dieing

yeah, the signature part and the singing princes was super intense.

otohime wept because the people who ignored her before are now supporting her because of her sacrifices.

the princes fought their tears to protect their sister IMMEDIATELY after their mother was shot. they are hilarious looking characters but sheesh, talk about previously unnoticed characters showing some deep heartfelt resolve!

really emotional stuff! last chapter got to me. i agree with you guys that it was those moments rather than the death that actually had an effect

As you said, I can't take those brothers seriously cause of how hilarious looking they are. So when they started crying...eh...lol.

I'll be honest. Otohime struck me as a very annoying character. I sympathized with her plight for signatures but honestly, she sometimes pissed me off. But this last chapter really changed all that. got me a bit teary towards the end.

hm, perhaps her persistence was meant to come off that way. there was a reason why the whole island became apathetic to her. it just kinda became noise. it was her persistence for her cause that made a change though, but it was also the thing that got her killed

if there was a crazy lady pestering everyone in a town square, i'd probably be annoyed too. but if she's speaking truth...!

;_; otohimeeee

new chapters out !

that was a really good flashback that introduces us well to the arc now , usually I hate flashbacks but this one was , I'll say, useful.

lets go deep down inside now with this convenient hi-tech denden mushi out of nowhere , gotta love Oda lol

sadface tho for no chapter next week , but E3 will fill the gap

Why is there no chapter next week? Holiday?

In any case, nice chapter. Figures Nami would forgive him openly...Sanji though -_-....

Lolz at Luffy missing the plot. Now he's gonna beat up the villain without having a clue why.

Luffy doesn't know anybody's story though. He always does that xD

Well, he sort of understood Nami's story and why they needed help when he rescued her vs Arlong. Alabasta...when he met with Chopper. Sky Island, sort of. This one he just slept through LOL.

Luffy: YOU HURT MY FRIENDS AND OR THE PEOPLE I JUST MET AND WERE NICE TO ME. I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU! ROAR SHOUNEN PROTAGONIST SMASH!

Mangaka take occasional weeks off to prepare chapters. I'm not complaining, because One Piece will just get better.

haha. luffy has a good heart and recognizes the villain right away, not because of their political backgrounds and the grandeur of their schemes, but because he knows they hurt others. i think that's what oda is trying to emphasize by always having him fall asleep during the back stories. if they aren't important to luffy, but luffy gets it right, then he's telling us that luffy is immediately seeing what really matters
