But that would mean that some people will have to move down! And they don't want that!

Yeah. The only reason I can think of the panel not making a new list was due to the fact that they'd be ranked lower. Prove me wrong, panel. :)

Eligible (those who've placed top 10):

Dai-A: 1, 1, 1
Xtinction: 2, 2, 3
Lada: 2, 3, 9
Sage: 3, 9
C!Z: 4
Perfect Chaos: 4, 4, 5
Wild Child: 5, 7
Gojira: 5, 5
Rade: 5, 7, 9
Tsuteto: 5, 7, 9
Zeth: 7, 9
Lengeta: 7
Staz: 7, 9
Fallen Prophet: 9, 9
Crea: 9
Marc: 9
Kenneth: 9
BattleChrist: 9

C!Z, Crea, Marc, Kenneth, BattleChrist, and myself don't get a rank for sure as we've only made one tourny in top 10.
Sage, Wild Child, Gojira, Zeth, Staz, and Fallen Prophet are questionable.

IMO:

UTAH BRAWL POWER RANKINGS

1: Dai-A
2: Xtinction
3: Perfect Chaos
4: Lada (lost a spot due to low MA3 rank)
5: Tsuteto
6: Rade (Tsuteto placed higher at MA2 & MA3)
7: Gojira (would have moved above Tsuteto & Rade with higher MA1 ranking)
8: Sage (low rank at MA2)
9: Wild Child
10: Staz (Zeth is RIGHT behind, ranked lower at MA1 & MA3)

Keep in mind this is ONLY taking tournament single rankings into account, giving the latest results priority.

Double post (thought it would look nicer than an edit)

Or, for more overall consistent ranks, you could calculate it like this perhaps?...

Rankings take the past six tournaments into account. To be considered for Power Rankings, you must have placed within the top 12 (1st-9th place) in at least one of the last six tournaments. Your lowest three ranks from these six will be added together to come up with a score. Ties go to the player who's ranked better more recently. For non-attended tournaments, you'll receive the lowest ranking possible. This means the bigger the tournament, the worse rank you'll receive, but again only the top three ranks are used so you're technically able to miss half of the tournaments and maintain your rank. (This will be a little more accurate after there've been 6 tournaments)

Ranks are as follow:

1st..Dai-A...- 3pts -..1..1..1..X X X
2nd..X.......- 7pts -..2..3..2..X X X
3rd..P.C.....- 13pts - 4..4..5..X X X
4th..Lada....- 14pts - 9..2..3..X X X
5th..Tsuteto - 21pts - 5..9..7..X X X
6th..Rade....- 21pts - 7..9..5..X X X
7th..Gojira..- 23pts - 5..5..13 X X X
8th..Wild Ch - 25pts - 13 5..7..X X X
9th..Sage....- 29pts - 3..17 9..X X X
10th Staz....- 29pts - 7..13 9..X X X

11th Zeth....- 29pts - 9..7..13 X X X
12th FallenP - 31pts - 9..9..13 X X X
13th Crea....- 39pts - 17 13 9..X X X
14th Lengeta - 49pts - 17 7..25 X X X
15th Kenneth - 51pts - 9..17 25 X X X
16th Marc....- 51pts - 17 9..25 X X X
17th C!Z.....- 54pts - 17 33 4..X X X
18th BattleC - 59pts - 17 33 9..X X X

* RED indicates a missed tournament
* GREY indicates a OOSer

::EDIT::
Interesting, it only switched Wild Child and Sage from my original ranking. coolio.

This seems like a really good way to do rankings without the need of a panel. With this, a lot of people will be happy, since they won't have to leave their fate in the hands of a few selected individuals, as they have full control over themselves. I do see some people not likely this, such as those that are adamant about how tournament results shouldn't be the only thing to be considered in rankings (FTS comes to mind).

I do agree with that under certain circumstances. Perhaps you've consistently been seeded badly, preform poorly in tournaments (pressure), or you can consistently beat someone with a better rank than you in friendlies. Nevertheless, I think this serves an excellent foundation to base the Power Rankings off of. Plus, some people like the idea of having specific ranked tournaments, makes it more official and whatnot and then they don't really have to worry about showing others their skill in friendlies and MMs, they can just save it for the tourny.

Take Hott for example. He consistently placed second at the past few Melee tournys he went to, but we never really got to go to any, since we live forever the hell away.

He's #2 in the state at Melee, but according to this ranking system, he wouldn't be considered at all.

Wow that is a really interesting system, it really helps summarize the tourneys, as mentioned before there are a few minor details that could be complained about, such as the harsh penalty for not attending, but i thinks its great and after a couple more tourneys this could be pretty accurate

That's just it though, there's NO penalty as long as you're making 1/2 the tournaments. This just hasn't come into affect yet. It could always be expanded to more than six tournaments total but still only count three if we wanted too, that'd be beneficial to say Hott. I also think it would be nice to somehow make more recent tournaments worth more, but I'm not sure how to go about that. Maybe multiply your rank by how many tournaments ago it was.

Dai-A: 1st, 1st, 1st, = 1x1, 1x2, 1x3 =1+2+3 = 6
X: 2nd, 3rd, 2nd = 2x1, 3x2, 2x3 = 2+6+6 = 14

...or something like that.

::EDIT::
Actually... after looking at it again... I only made one of three tournaments, where I took 7th, and this way I'm still considered 14th. I think this is working well with missing tournaments, that's a GREAT rank for me, IMO.

This is one of those "certain circumstances" me and PerfectChaos were talking about. Taking only 3 of the past 6 is aimed to try and help fix this, but how many tournaments do you have to place well at, and how consistently to be considered one of the higher ranked? I took 7th at our biggest turnout, but I definitely don't feel I deserve to be considered the 7th best. With Melee we DID have a lot more playtime to back us up as well. Once we've got like 12 tournaments, we can take the best 4 out of those or something. Reguardless, the more tournaments anyone's participated in, the easier and more accurate it will be to decide who belongs where.

This is a very good way to do power rankings IMO. It gives a reliable way to rank people and eliminates the opinion/bias that could potentially happen with a panel.

Good thinking Layne :)

I like the rankings system. but one problem is what has happened to FP. At every tourney he has been knocked out but the same people. PC, ZETH, ,and ME All Meta knight players who counter ice climbers. And he has consistently beat the people who don't play a counter to him such as Lada for example. Other than that i think it is a good system.

That's the problem with a double-elim: you don't fight everyone. But it's the best thing to get as many matches as possible, but run a tournament quickly still. Unfortunately though, compared to a round robin for 16 people, you'd get 1/4 of the matches with double elimination, and they can all suck for you.

And I'm not afraid of his ICs, just freakin' Yoshi XD

BattleChrist placed in the top 12 once, so his name was there too, that's all. Technically he's made it into the rankings, but excluding him because he's Idahoan and not Utahan is fine too. I suppose I could give him a special color... (edits)

And yeah Sage, that is the downfall of tournaments. That's another prime example of a special circumstance that makes having a panel nice. But what happens when FP beats Lada, Lada beats you, and you beat FP? Who's on top there anyway?

you do have a point..... I could see a combination of the two Panel and Strait Rankings being what we should go for.
We could have the current thing and then when the panel meets then you could add points based on their opinions.
So for example

W!ld- tourney-5,7,13 (3 Member)Panel- 7,8,7 (just speculation)

Then make the panel, how ever many people it is, count for some fraction of the actual ending score.

Percentage and stock, really. At least the most basic of forms. And from there, it really depends on how many times they've played that person's character.

Or I can be completely wrong right now. I'm tired, I'm going to sleep.

Does ANYONE else see the irony in TSU's post? I know Perfect does, but anyone else? For those who can't, here, it is.

Does ANYONE else see the irony in X's post? I know Tsu does, but anyone else? For those who can't, here, it's in the spoilers.

X, you're a moron. There is nothing ironic about Tsuteto's post. What was ironic in both of your posts were the fact that you called someone else stupid when you, yourself, was the one that didn't know what you were talking about. Despite the fact that Tsuteto said some stuff that would be considered stupid by some (e.g. the stuff about how much one wins by...stuff like how big of a margin one person beats another by is extremely hard to keep track of, let alone the characters that they were using), he did not call anyone else stupid, thus there is no irony (at least not one that I can spot).

BTW, in this case, "irony" means "incongruity between what is stated and what is actually the case, especially when this disparity seems absurd or laughable," FYI.

Edit: Although I will give you an applause for trying to use his own post as a comeback (despite it failing miserably and opening the chance for me to do the same).

I'm sorry, but a lot of the things you say are pretty idiotic. I get irritated when someone around me acts stupid on a regular basis; when that happens, I feel that I have to speak up.
