Hey guys, DjDriftking here with a post, was planning on making more big ten school themed textures but my laptops fan is getting really loud whenever I use photoshop so ima probs quit doing this until i get a super dope idea or I get a new laptop.

There's really no reason to put all that text for what 20XX colors it replaces because if the costume color is red for example, then people will know that it will work on the red 20XX alt color. I'm fine with the text but it seems like a bit more effort than needed on your part.

Well, I'm pretty sure most of the people just casually browsing the thread are looking to find sick replacements for the 20xx alternates, so my thought process was that making everything clear wouldn't hurt. Obviously someone like you that maintains this thread would see it as overwhelmingly obvious, but for someone that just downloaded the melee texture tool and is looking to get some cool costumes it might not be!

A few days ago CeLL had the idea to give color to the closed port doors on the CSS.

And it works!

How to do?

There are 8 image headers for this texture (one for each half of each door), located here:

0x0034A114, 0x0034A054, 0x00349E14, 0x00349D54, 0x00349B14, 0x00349A54, 0x00349814, 0x00349754

At each of these offsets, you'll find a header that looks like this: 0002F740008000C800000003

The 3 on the end is the image type. Now, the _5 image type supports both color and transparency, and is the same bytes per pixel as the original _3 type (at least for the total, not for the individual channels). So just replace the 3 in each of those headers with a 5 and replace the texture with an _5 version. Remember to use the same tricks as before with the alpha layer when editing that texture, as mentioned in my guide here. Then just save it as a _5.png, and that's it! Someone still needs to figure out how to move these things though, so we can get rid of that distortion along the middle.


At first we thought about putting the image at the end of the file, redirecting the image headers, and changing the image type (and changing the file size / rebuilding the iso with GCR), which would be nice because we could use a _6 type and get twice the bit depth (better quality image). But for some reason that created some weird effects with the colors for some bizarre reason.

It would be fantastic if I knew what was causing that, because I think I could do more than just get a better quality image.

Does anyone know where these offsets are for these colors on final destination? I'm not talking about the specific texture itself because I already found that. I mean the offsets in the .dat that controls the color.

Okay guys, I've been looking throughout the thread, but I'm not sure where to find it. How do you make it so you can toggle alternate character costumes with L? If I replace the character costume file, it just completely replaces it, how do you get it to switch it on and off like in the original 20xx?

read the 20xx thread, it involves replacing files in the files you use to build 20xx. they are listed in the thread

What if it isn't one of the characters they have listed? Like, if I wanted an alternate Luigi costume, how does that work?

It's a lot harder than you probably think. 20XX 4.0 will have an alt for all characters/colors though so if you're patient you'll get it. Also Zankyou has a code to do it kind of like cBliss where it just seems that you have extra colors, it has a thread on the board somewhere.

I remember having this problem when I changed the masterball on PS. I believe I just indexed the texture and that fixed it? Or maybe I used the dumped texture of dolphin as a base INSTEAD of the pokeball in steelia's files and that worked.

The outermost pixel of the center graphic gets repeated. So my guess is that your logo has a black background. Replace it with transparant and ensure there is a 1px transp. boarder

Yeah I thought that had something to do with hexadecimal hilly billies which I haven't got through learning yet

EDIT: Okay so, what I did earlier what just removing the pokeball, pasting the logo and then keeping the black background like a ******, I removed it, shrunk the logo a bit but the lettering on the screen behind is still missing.
I suspect DATTW having something to do with this.



Also, I changed the color of the ground, I can't find anything about the top platforms, how are they colourized ? Same thing for the yellow triangles and the grey bars.

this one was just an experiment, trying out different techniques.

Somebody asked how to change the color of the inside of the jacket I think. I now know that for Fox it is Texture 29
