NYC Lets get it together! - Monthly Tournaments TBA

Hey guys. I been out of the Nyc scene for a bit. If you guys don't know the deal by now im me but I have been watching everything I help make become squandered by other peoples stupidity. I miss running tournaments so I am thinking about running one again. Here is what I need help with.


I. Venue

Its a long story but I do not work at web2zone anymore so I have to find a new venue to start from scratch with. At this point I am looking around for a nice decent area ( whether its a gaming center or some high school) that is easy to get to. Also, I do not want to go back to an old venue that was used like Neutral Grounds or Netplay. We all know we are above those places and reputations with them are not exactly good so I wanna move on to something new and enjoy a fresh start.

II. Date

I wanna try to plan something around late December/early January but if possible make it a monthly thing so we can get some hype in NYC again. The community is not dead and neither is the scene. You guys just need to come out more. Beyond that I know you are all out there cause I see most of you post all the time.
III. Setups

Unless someone finds a lan center with televisions I will probably not have setups. That means we all have to pull together on this one and bring Televisions and gamecubes. At this point we need to stick together as we are all the sole reason we are so beastly. Starz, R3no, Scissors Sir, Dmon, Jman, and Alukard ***** at VLS and I know more of you can do it to. If we do not play each other constantly and just say f everything we will not step up the game.

Maybe I am wrong. I wanna make this work somehow but it is up to you guys to step it up. I can put a lot of things together but without help I am only human. I have to deal with lack of money and finding a new job for myself so I cannot put everything into this just to find out I am all alone. Either way if this does not work please support the bi-weeklies me and jay0yeah helped to establish and helped bring people like Isai, PC , Cactuar and other great players to. For me Personally I will not let NYC die while I am around.


I hope my crew mates in Killer Fleet and TSA will support me on this as I have supported them. I hope to see a few replies to this to help me do something special again for NYC.



First Update :

- So far I think a monthly Saturday Tournaments will be best for everyone. It will attract OOS players and give locals more chances to come in even with school and work.


Second Update :

Rocking said he can help buy and give me some televisions so he can, for now, give me 2.

I also suggest everyone find some thrift stores and small electronic stores to help check prices for televisions and if people can rent some. PM me details but they have to have the following :


- AT LEAST 20inches ( too small means doubles will be hard to see so I need them at 20 inches)

- have audio and video jacks ( as much as I love RF adapters Video jacks help to make things much easier and help to simplify costs so check if they have a Yellow|Red|White plugs on the back or front of the television )

Either way I know can be done and tomorrow I am going to look around for venues so I'll update this with posts daily.

Interesting...my fridays are so bad...maybe with this upcoming semester I can free them up. I would love to be able to come to weeklies again. I will see if I can start coming again next semester....when you find the venue that is....

u can't do monthlys. it has 2 b weeklys. when brawl comes out that game is gonna b 2 beast 4 monthlys. people r gonna wanna train wit each otha everyday weekend n the only way i see that is wit a weekly. thatz my opinion n i think it should start early wit melee.

I like your suggestion...however with a lack of venue there has to be consideration for the facility I choose.

for example many venues will have dates booked and due to that will be unable to be weeklies or at the very least bi-weeklies. I believe my goal is to start small and begin with something on a saturday that we can work on. That way we can see how it does or what not. The main problem with weeklies was the frequency of it. Meaning we had it so often that people could skip one knowing another was not far away. When I left it slowly became that and my new vision is for 40-60 people a month to come together and play. I want people to look foward to the events and have out of staters come a majority of the time.

Beyond that I just think costs will be too high. With me not using web2zone as a venue I do not have a free venue. Due to that they will either a-) cost a lot or b-) add up to us losing money from the pot over a period of time if what happened with the weeklies will happen.

I do love your enthusiasm Bum but right now I have to look at Profit/Loss margins for the events to give the players the most money and have a venue that is cheap...once I have something established I will work towards something more frequent.

this is true but if we do weeklies again it might die out fast again,i think that the reason smash has survived this long in nyc was because of the random gauntlets,when weeklies came around everything started dying so i think monthlies are the best or bi-weeklies.

It works for other fighters simply becuase they don't have regular tournaments.

update 2 : I found a few places that I will be posting up at the end of today. No pricing yet but I think they will be fairly cheap as I am looking for rooms that can hold 50-70 people. Beyond that I really need some help with televisions as that is a big thing right now.

Hold up a sec. If its bi-weeklies. Remember. W2Z has them too. Thats would mean one week at w2z and one week here. and last I recall. pople would not play every week or enter cause of money or etc. I think monthy would be the best choice. what is the point for have bi weekiles if we got w2z? It will be a repeat of when it was weeklies. except this place would get involed as well.

no i mean manhattan cause of the following reasons

a-) a MAJORITY of people can get there easy

b-) most people know the subways and if they dont its really easy to learn. If any of it fails it can be a few bucks to go on a cab.


I know some of AE travels in a car and they all have told me its about the time you come in. A saturday morning is not that bad to go through and most places I have done events in have great parking. But I will add the parking factor in.

Whatever venue you find, one big suggestion I can give epically if you want people to bring tv's is make it have PARKING.
