Ok, so as of right now with w2z out of commission, NYC weeklies are pretty much on hold am I right? I go to SUNY Purchase which is 15/20 minutes away from NYC, is right by CT and is easily accessible from Metro North. There has been a pretty decent Smash scene here in the past, and there are a few Tournament directors who have a pretty consistent 20+ people turnout.

I've helped run a few tournies on campus before so I'm good with organizing and keeping things running smoothly. I also really want to do this to help keep Melee tournaments running regularly, so if things go well expect another tournament to follow soon.

My college will be great for this as:
1.) It's easy to access from NYC/Westchester/NJ/CT/anywhere in NE
2.) We have setups, large areas that are preferable for a tournament
3.) Food/drink on campus

We have many NE smashers who prefer Melee over Brawl and want to support Melee, so come prove it! Leave your thoughts here and let me know if I should bother going through with this or not.

UPDATE: This is official now, expect a date and details very very soon.

one question...

If there's a lot of NE smasher there that hate brawl, why run one? (meaning why run Brawl biweeklies along with Melee)

It might not even be that they hate Brawl, but would prefer to have a venue for Melee. I should've reworded it, as even I play Brawl and enjoy it, just maybe not at a competitive level. I'd like to have Brawl because I feel it would attract a wider audience and it could be fun (they might have to be two separate events though.)

Regardless, I just want to get some Smash going in the NY area, and this would be a steady and convenient venue. If more people want one over the other, I'll accommodate accordingly, although I have a bias towards Melee.

Even if there are venues that are holding Melee/Brawl tournaments, theres no reason why you can't hold another. I think it'd be great if you can hold these tournaments and would definately come along/bring some crew members with me.

That's what I want to hear. I'll do what I can, it would be really nice if some people from the city/NJ would try coming to this, as well as some of you tools out in MA (Roman, 3x, Spife, m.zeb, etc) came out.

if its as close as it sounds i might show up. however i think you should pick either melee or brawl, I and some others dont like constant switching because the games ruin the skill in each other sooooo yea pick brawl cuz theres already melee bi-weeklies.

Well I figure we could try both or maybe one week have Melee and another have Brawl. If you don't want to come for one than come for the other. Like I said, if more people end up turning out for Brawl (which has already been the experience I've had here :() than I'll make the switch.

I'd really just like to see what happens with the Melee turnout, so come through!

Well, if the new venue that Bum found works, there will end up being Brawl biweeklies too. While I don't hate Brawl, Melee is a much more enertaining game to play competetively. Otg you could try maybe alternating Melee and Brawl different times and see how that turns out.

when will you start it
I'll have to get back to you on that as I have a lot of bureaucratic bs to deal with before I put together a date. I also have to see what we can do about prices as most of the tournies we've had have been free to enter (for students), so I have to talk to some of the TO's about that.

There's a lot that needs to get sorted out, but I just wanted to see what people's thoughts on it this would be. Regardless of whether or not we get some NYC players, I think a lot of Westchester/Rockland/CT players would come to this as it's really close. I'm going to work on this because I want to this to be a legit thing, and not just some half-***** event.
