Today I made a promise to my friends that I wouldn't play any more video games. I'm pretty addicted to it

I don't remember the last day i went without playing dota/melee.

F my life! at least i can find a job/get to work on research papers!

I know a lot of you guys have been in my position before at one point or another. Give advice plz. thanks

i think you should only quit if its getting in the way of other important things like school, work, family, (girl)friends, etc

if you can get **** done, i see no reason to quit

quitting video games is pointless if you don't make an effort to replace it with something you consider 'more productive' or 'more fun'

sitting in front of the tv staring at it blankly instead of turning it on and watching/playing something doesn't do anyone any good

trrruuuuuuuu

honestly it sounds like the premise for an anti-drug commercial
smashboards is MUCH worse for you than actually playing melee is

Agree with PockyD
Only reason one should quit video games is because you dont have time for them.

I still LOVE video games, but Im always busy with school or going out, so I usually dont have time for much else but melee (also being a poorass doesnt help).

why would you promise this to your friends?

promise it to yourself, if anyone

also you can't quit a habit without replacing it with another. (well, you can, but it's ridiculously hard and not very practical.)

work hard, play harder. if you feel guilty about what you do in your free time then why don't you write down more productive things you'd like to do. it takes 30 days to make something a habit btw, and discipline doesn't grow overnight. these things are close to my heart (i just wanted to say that phrase) because since may or so i've been making it a point to improve my discipline, and i've gone overdrive with it in the past couple weeks

whenever someone mentions discipline

i think of an over-man out in the cold in a swimsuit grilling
or someone holding the same serious expression while they get stung by bees over and over, with a brock samson face

or just ridiculous things like that

at the same time i've always wondered if it works
how's it going for you, adam
^genuinely curious

hahahaha it's going quite well joe. i feel like it's the best way to reach where i want to go in melee so i gotta do what i gotta do. and when people see how good my fox gets they'll know where it came from =)

legit

although i think you have a head start from being a more experienced player
you're more mentally seasoned, and if your fox gets really amazing then it won't just be from sheer willpower alone

why can't you go to pat's house :(

he's using the money he'd spent at Pat's House to travel around SoCal and play people to get better.

I think he's tired of ****** scrub-a-dubs :)

you could just pull an old-school P

go to the tournament, enter no events, and do mms (only the ones you'll win)
that's like 20 bucks maximum if you bring your own food
40-45 with food, and a lot more experience for your dollar

ty for more advice

don't take it personally P but I knew you were gonna talk philosophically, so i was thinking about writing "everyone but P give me advice" LOL im not kidding.... but dont take it personally!

you're very right. I couldn't be more wrong. I should be doing this for myself not others. And now i realize that the only reason my friends got me to make the deal with me was to help me realize that i need to discipline myself/be more productive.

I honestly was spending too much time playing. This is for me, and not for my friends. dam P i love u

first day went well. I studied extra for my classes and used my time semi-wisely today. I also watched a lot of random videos on the internet though. XD I'll try to change that tomorrow.

Im feeling more productive already! story of my life

It wouldn't be as bad if you played it off as a joke but you didn't.

Why did any of you actually post something serious in this thread? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Dumb *****.

And you don't have friends.

its Vahag

you have to think of a nickname for me because my name is unpronouncable to most people

like V... i dunno. lol I tell people to call me Vahag once they get to know me better. But at first its hard to say.

when im done with not playing/catching up with my life for a few more weeks/getting my crap done i'll be back to play melee again. btw i think i can easily bus to your house because you live in burbank.

Good job Practice Man! =D
I'm kinda doing this along with my friend as well.
Trying to do it until grades are due in about a month. It's going alright but I'm getting in a few games of Dota and practicing Melee.
I guess I lost already? I'm doing much better in school so I guess it's not all bad.

And how would getting a nickname after making it already go?
I mean zboredomkingz is just a mouthful and it's been my Gamertag on Xbox since like 07.
I was thinking about shortening it up to Borki or some ****.

lol thanks for the support...

ya I'm pretty sure thats failing  But it's ok, you can try again. Once you get past a week it gets easy.

Ya school is one of the reasons I want to do this too!

And for your nickname, I don't think Borki is a good nickname because it sounds like Porky. But then again practice_man isn't a great name either =/
