The thing with Sakurai is that he probably thinks Smash Bros. is like a child to him. He doesn't let others input on it because he wants it to practically grow up the way he wants it. I mean if you had a child, wouldn't you want it to grow up the way you feel it should?

I would totally feel the same if I was directing Smash Bros.

I think if it was a standard game (like Kid Icarus), he would probably be fine with the input he was getting for it. Smash Bros.. is a whole different case though. Not only did his vision fail practically three times, he is also head of a franchise consisting of some of the greatest characters in gaming. He does have a huge task to deal with and a lot of pressure over his shoulder as well. So, I think all that failure of his vision has really gotten to him over the years and he has grown protective of his series. Like he is the only one who can really manage it without screwing it up.

To be fair, I think he does take player input into consideration but he doesn't really let it take over his overall vision of the series. It's how he made Smash 4 like a middleground between Melee and Brawl in terms of gravity and speed and took a further emphasis on characters with very unique playstyles and all.
